- Part 2 of 5. Classic Game Room reviews GRAN TURISMO 5 for Playstation 3 PS3 from Polyphony Digital and Sony. The ultimate racing simulator returns for the full version of Gran Turismo 5, a PS3 exclusive with over 1000 cars, dozens of tracks, a course editor, online gameplay and much more. But does it live up to the excellent earlier installments in the series like GT2, GT3 and the amazing Gran Turismo 4? Pretentious menus and soothing music seem awkward and out of place but the gameplay is fast, smooth and ferocious. Level up to experience everything but prepare to spend half of your life doing it. Gran Turismo 5 is basically more of the same but optimized for Playstation 3 with HD visuals and silky smooth driving game play. Car brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Bugatti appear in Gran Turismo as well as old favorites Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, TVR, Ford, Chevy and Dodge. Buy used cars as the come on the market and modify them to supercar status, race in a variety of races or just challenge friends online. I gotta ask, are you using a PS3 controller or a steering wheel? I'm currently using the Logetic steering wheel and it's great.
is this as good as rfactor or iracing? (talking about simulation), I'm skeptic about playing a race car simulator with a gamepad.
pretty great, it haves alot of things you can upgrade, so don't wait to buy it!

It's absolutely amazing to experience the Classic Nurburgring Nord Schleife in this game. Record to beat is Niki Laudas 6:58:6 from the 1975 F1 event.

I like how in the spec 2.0 release, you can finally change the rims on the standard cars. Maybe it's a little thing, but it's a nice thing.

Great job on the reviews buddy, nevertheless, please note at about 2:20 that the PS3 does not have analogue pressure sensitive face buttons, unlike the PS2/XBOX 1. Just nit picking=)
without being fanboy...is worth geting a PS3 and GT5? or Xbox and Forza 3?
Mark and I must not be getting something, but I'm also surprised at how few events there are, compared to previous GT's. Does anybody know if, at some point, more open up? Or if an update will bring more? It just doesn't seem possible that they'd give you so many cars, but so relatively few opportunities to use them.

agreed, its a huge stepback from GT4 where you had three times the events and tracks to drive on
TBH, I'm disappointed. Far from being the revolutionary gaming-experience we were promised GT5 is essentially just a graphically-updated version of GT4. The car handling is still scintillating, the visuals undoubtedly pulchritude and the customization of your cars is impressive. But the drawbacks are just too impeding: the AI is still too robotic; cars don't role around and obey real-world physics, the tracks largely prosaic and featureless, and the sense of speed pales next to the likes of NFS.

I agree with u. In gt4 they had certain races just for the specific car sometimes. Idk to me but I still find gt4 the best gt because there's just more things to do there. But gt5 is awesome too. Many things are a challenge, I'm actually trying to get gold on the Sebastian vettle challenge for the prototype..... Btw the GT-R part was funny

I have 205 cars in GT5 at the moment (and am Level 28 and a half) :D The Trophy for having 1,000 cars is probably the silliest trophy ever unless you save up 5,000,000 credits and then buy 1,000 Karts. That will give you the Trophy but you will be left with a load of Karts and no Credits for the awesome Ferrari's or Lamborghini's etc!

At first they did not, but they came out with an update to the game quite a bit ago, that released standard interior views for all the vehicles that did not have them in the first place.
You what's funny? If they had left the cockpit view out entirely, barely anyone would have noticed. Instead, they gave us a taste, and left us wanting more, because what little we got was so cool. If it wasn't there, we could have convinced ourselves that it wouldn't be that cool anyway. No turning back now, Polyphony, GT 6, cockpit for every car, MAKE IT HAPPEN.

The best cars I have so far are my ZZII which I brought for 95k cr. and A TVR tuscan speed 6 which cost the same. I raced them and they're awesome.

I hope you've gotten to the enduro events, there's a lot of gameplay there (quite literally), though I have to say that not being able to pause B-Spec scares me...

lol, I love how Mark made the negatives in the game seem funny and not so bad and yet he was incredibly harsh on Forza 3. Of course Im not surprised since I knew from the start he was a GT fanboy so it was expected. Have loves the photo mode in this game yet he pissed all over the storefront and rewind feature in Forza3. :D

@c3vzn Yes, that is correct. All cars from the (new car) dealership are premium. All cars from the used car dealership are standard. There are also some 2010 spec cars that are standard models in the used car dealership. I assume that these cars are standard as they were taken from Gran Turismo PSP.
Hey, have you thought about doing the GT Academy? I really enjoyed that.
the 3D of the game is actually good. just hope 3DTVs drops prices next year so i can get one.
Mark, how do those gift cars work? Can you only play them online or can you also play them offline? Also, can just anyone gift you a car or just people on your friends list? I need to know because I've got a couple of cars that I don't really need that I'm ready to gift you (because you're awesome), but your friends list is full.

In arcade mode you can use the eye to look around. it uses head tracking.
