Her agility in 2013 was INSANE! Like when she did runs with her head voice it sounds almost robotic

This performance is 100% live, and it is obvious because the band/orchestra was so fast and mariah was delayed a bit in the beginning.

Trust the Mariah stans when we tell you it is extremely obvious when Mariah lips a song she pays too much attention to the way she looks and there’s no struggle in her face. As a fan of hers, she really does lipsync often especially difficult parts of her songs. But this one particular performance is all live. She never lipsyncs when singing with another person.Plus she is literally the worst lipsync-er lol.

Oh this was surely live and you can tell just for the fact that if she was actually lip syncing her mouth would have missed many of those parts. I’m a huge lamb but she is horrible when she lip syncs 😭 in 2013 and 2014 her voice was just so good and her runs and riffs were insanely fast and precise. Honestly if you look at her performances from her debut till now, 2013-2014 were easily her best years when it came to runs and riffs. Very agile!!

When MC does a tv performance she rarely rehearses for it, if she does she will use vocals she likes from the rehearsal, then she will take two or three takes for the tv performance and splice together the best vocals for the best final cut. She won’t do this for an award show. She technically can’t at an award show, but these vocals were all live, she sang it live multiple times for this particular performance. She’s a perfectionist who’s rather be known for writing, and looking pretty while singing rather than focusing too much on the act of singing.

You just don't pre-record adlibs to sing and harmonizing with someone who you don't even know how he will sound like, it was the first time they meet at the Michael Show TV.
Maybe you wanted to react to a bad performance by her but she is a Legend vocalist and if you have never reacted to her Live performances you should start by "If it's over at the grammys 1992" "Joy to the world live in 1994"...
She has nodules affecting the way she used to sing, Sometimes she has really bad days, more frequently in the last 10 years and Sometimes she is well rested doing whenever she wants to, this performance is just a example like others on youtube.
This is live but also it has live autotune, that's why she was questining, Mariah doesn't sound robotic too much but Michael Buble gives it all away.
Mariah's music catalog is so rich! Each of her albums has something good to offer us! Lots of vocal layers, sophisticated melodies and harmonies , besides smart lyrics!

Imho it just sounds 'refined' because it was a tv special so they definitely fixed the mixing of audio. Also the audience was loudly clapping so there really is a need of leveling up her audio hence her voice sounds louder at times. But if it is really giving you second thoughts if its live or not then you should probably react to another Mariah performance, please?😅
I highly suggest "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" live in 1991. It is a very raw tv performance and it was during her prime so there's no guessing if it's live or not 🙂💚
MB is one of the greatest voices…but this is her song and he rightly mostly stays out her way…really nice live performance

Mariah is amazing, the best living female vocalist after Whitney's passing, but my Canadian homie is terrific. He's like the Canadian James Bond and he still lives in Burnaby, Canada with his wife and kids. He didn't bail for California the moment he got famous. Such terrific talents. You can see in the beginning he's almost starstruck but keeps it together so he can sing. I would have been the same way.

The most probable idea regarding if she is singing live or not is that it might be dubbed, but she wasn't lipsyinking in this performance for sure cause it's so easy to tell when she is lipsyinking 😂😂

Remember when singing live, when the music drops, the compression focuses on that one track coz there's nothing else happening so yes the reverb would kick in. I work in production

Get it straight lady, Miss Mariah Carey is considered one of the best vocalists of the last 60 years even by classical music standards, her technique is so unique and effective that she uses her vocal nodules that she had since childhood as an asset to produce breathy vocals, she was born with a beautiful voice, simple, technique aside her tone is beautiful, never harsh yet powerful, the seamless transitions between registers or even octave jumps are incredible, sometime you can't tell if a head voice run escalates to whistle or viceversa because there is no pause. People always speculate if it's live or not and this started since 1990, because people got used to mediocrity and she good singers came out they thought it was impossible, a 51 years old well rested Mariah Carey can sing anybody under the table in the blink of an eye, she writes her music, produces her songs and even directs her music videos, she created the predominant genre in music because she took a chance and elevated urban music till the top of the charts and is because I'd her that Jay Z was noticed for example. I think, this is not 100% live vocals. I've seen her doing this with hero where she sings live, but the technician has to do some editing with the vocal where they make it stable. Just like when the mic goes away and near, the sound has to be different but they did some magic with it. But her singing, those notes were done live.

I'm still in 2 minds about whether this was a dubbed performance or not, I think it sounds very perfect but then again Mariah is a wonderful vocalist. She's also just very good at singing over her dubbed performances so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and we'll just call it live. I'm sure I'll take another look at Mariah very soon

mariah's voice changes all the time and true fans actually can tell what year she sang it just by listening to her voice. and at this specific time, mariah's voice was especially auto-tuney. but if you go look at other totally live impromptu performace on jimmy fallon, it's a no debate that it isnt autotune afterall.

Live because she is not a good lip syncher - if she does she is not really watching the distance of the microphone and her eyes are open almost the whole time. She keeps her mouth very close to the microphone. Usually an indicator that she sings live.
