Favourite joke of inside no9 is in this episode
"Remember when the fortune teller said you'd get attacked by a tiger and then a box of frosties hit you on the head in the supermarket" 🤣

I also think its important to say that the title mother's ruin is referring to the women taking gin with men and thus abandoning their children to ruin themselves - which is kind of what happens when Annie Blackwood when she has the affair with Reggie she abandons all connections with her first born and even her second born who is named after her actual husband may share the same name but he still is kept in the dark about most things
I could be reading a bit too much into it but that's what I got out of the title this episode was really funny and I love how there was nothing predictable, everything was well thought through and Reece shearsmith's performance when he possessed was horrifying great stuff and I can't wait for the rest. Great video as always guys
    👍 😊

This was a fun and twisted opener to the series, I especially enjoyed Shearsmith going unhinged as only he can. A very odd premise but an interesting one that kept me gripped. Felt very League of Gentlemen. Completely agree about Christian Henson, the man is a genius and so talented.

I feel like more Supernatural (TV show) references are being snuck in. Ed and Harry are the names of the 2 main Ghostfacers, and Azazel is the yellow-eyed demon that killed Sam and Dean's mum.
Thinking about the previous use of Castiel in The Harrowing

    @56ty78ui ปีที่แล้ว +7

Their Mum would not come out through necromancy unless something was sacrificed that she loved. Hence Reece character, after he had his foot cut off, made out he was the Mum. Reggie was stabbed, so making the circle work, as she loved Reg more than her sons. Their Mum came back as the parrot. "What ya want"?

I liked this episode. Interesting concept and moments I never thought I would have seen. I might be wrong but the house looks like the same house where they filmed the episode Wise Owl (my fav inside no. 9 episode). If not then it must have been built around the same time due to the similar layout

I thought this one was okay. I always find their paranormal stuff a little hit and miss and I was never sure how seriously we were meant to take any of it, which isn't a bad thing necessarily but just kept me from engaging fully. That said, I cackled like an idiot at the Father Brown stuff and I couldn't even tell you why.

  • @chrisellis4400

I would argue that Pemberton's character was naive rather than less intelligent. Shearsmith's character was able to understand the relationship dynamics at play whilst Pemberton's character only understood the relationships at face value.
The folly Pemberton's character fell in to was trust and uncritical loyalty.
The folly Shearsmith's character fell in to was.. I don't know, greed, hubris, ego?
In the end Shearsmith's character redeemed himself through self sacrifice.
Even though Shearsmith's character was the only one of the two brothers to learn a lesson and grow as a character, both brothers will potentially share in the reward.
Unless, of course, the whole necromancy thing is BS and the parrot is simply a parrot.

    I like this new format.
For me, this one will take a little time to settle in. It started off a bit dull for me, it felt very derivative of previous No.9 affair from the characters, styles, etc, just something about it seemed samey. Then Fran and Reg rock up, and it goes absolutely crazy, and it was absolutely hysterical. I think Reece and Steve were upstaged in this episode, the gore was Tarantino levels of crazy, and I was able to embrace it, a great subversion of expectations

I really enjoyed this episode all in all. My two biggest gripes were the slightly unnecessary cockney translations, which came across a bit forced. Also, Reece's cockney accent ... It was truly the most horrifying thing about Mother's Ruin, for me.

Ummm, didn't like this at all. The close-up gore scene was very unnecessary. Beside that, the characters, story development all led to nowhere.
It's hilarious during the ending, the lady told them to get out before she returns from watching her show....yet, just left them tied up wiith no means of escape.

I wasn't such a fan of this one, tbh. I love Reece and Steve's dramatic writing, but I don't really like their comedic writing. It was an enjoyable episode until Fagin and his cockney to english translator walked in singing roll out the barrel
