I cannot BEGIN to describe how envious I am that you were able to watch this one in real time! I’m not easy to scare when it comes to horror films, but this one genuinely scared the hell out of me and I can only imagine how horrifying the experience must have been seeing it live.
It was more of a mindf*** than scary from a live watch imo BUT to see how it all played out and the live Tweeting as well as making the technical difficulties seem genuine was incredible
Watched it on the night. When the rerun hit me and my friend were constantly going back and forth between "aw, poor lads" and "this is totally a trick they would pull, the little shits". So we stuck with it. That sudden glimpse of the ghost in quiet night made us scream. One of the best TV experiences of my life and an absolute masterpiece. Very few things compare
I will NEVER forget watching this live. When the announcer first came on I turned it off and went upstairs to tell my mum about it. I watched it again after 5-10 minutes and it TOTALLY had me hook, line and sinker until the last few minutes. They did me up like a kipper geezer.
Watching this one live is an experience I will never forget. It's genius. The excitement/terror I felt when I saw the lady in the background of 'A Quiet Night In'. I remember thinking 'hang on, that's not meant to be there'. Dead Line is one of 41 reasons why Inside No. 9 is the best thing on TV. I genuinely don't think there's a bad episode.
Whilst I didn’t watch it live, I actually had a similar experience watching it through iPlayer with my parents
They wanted to turn it off when the audio was playing up but I insisted we kept it on and we definitely enjoyed it but I really wish I watched it live
I watched this live and it was an amazing ride. I decided to stick around and watch the 'rerun' of A Quiet Night in. When the ghost appeared I let out a scream if delight when I worked out what was going on. What a work of genius. Reece and Steve still get asked on twitter when the BBC is going to sort the sound issues!
this episode still managed to scare the SHIT out of me in that way that all 4th wall breaking horrors do (still not over doki doki literature club) despite the fact I watched it for the first time today, 4+ years after it aired
while I had the safety blanket of knowing almost immediately that the production errors were probably intentional (why would i be seeing them on bbc iplayer otherwise), the episode did a really good job of building up a sense of unease - one of my fave details was the music slowly distorting during the re-run of a quiet night in
I watched this live. A friend of mine did what you did and turned over when it appeared that there was genuine glitches, but he didn’t return back to the programme, thereby missing the rest. I stuck with it, suspecting all would not be as it appears. I just had this feeling that, being Inside No 9, something would be amiss. It’s like watching a Derren Brown live show.
Let’s hope these two continue delivering on their brilliant imaginations for years to come.

After the episode, Reece didn’t post on social media for like a month and pretended he was dead and steve pretended his arm was broken after the episode on social media bc of his electric shock
I watched this live and genuinely thought there was something wrong with my TV, I was about to go to bed but I liked that old episode so I stayed and watched. So glad I did.
I genuinely feel sorry for those who turned off and never came back. You'd never live it down

I watched this live and it honestly messed with my head a little! I'm not one to get scared easily and I had to sit watching videos on you tube for a while with all the lights on before I could go to bed 😆. I didn't switch off when the audio cut out as a quiet night in is an episode I genuinely enjoy watching so seeing that girl in the window shot was a shock to say the least! I love this show so much. the way they can cram in so much information in half an hour, make you care about the characters and then give a gut punching twist is extraordinary. They are amazing writers and actors
honestly same - this episode haunted me for ages after.
I saw this live and it was amazing. I am a huge fan so I was waiting for the twist, but when a quiet night in started to be shown I was completely fooled and disappointed. I nearly turned over. I have seen a quiet night in loads of times but I love it so I stuck with it. When the ghost appeared I thought there’s the twist . They got me. Then I started doubting myself. They are tweeting live? It shows the other channels? How did they get the rights to most haunted 😂 and would Bobby agree to this 😂 it was so well done. They scared a non believer. It’s great to re watch. This is our generations war of the worlds. Best thing on tv.
Our generation's War of the Worlds is a great way to describe it! I wish it'd have been much more of a cultural smash hit that WOTW was! But those who know, we know!
Yeah as soon as the technical difficulties sign popped up I laughed as I was sure they were messing with us. Great one off experience
I watched is live on the PS4. I thought the games console was playing up and was genuinely annoyed that it was 'glitching' especially with the sound dipping. I was going to pick another IN9 favourite episode when the announcer said she was going to show A Quiet Night In. So I kept it on as background noise. Then.... it cut back to the live episode. So I persisted. I am so glad I did! This episode is one of the most iconic and unforgettable I would say.😊
I wish I knew about this show cause this sounds awesome, we need more experimental shows like this
I didn't get to see it live, but I did trick my boyfriend into THINKING it was on live later when I was actually just streaming it for him. I still congratulate myself for pulling that off.
And series 7 is with us in just over a week! (Having seen preview of two episodes can confirm its going to be a good un )

I genuinely thought my sound had gone and started banging my remote 😂Very well done, although I did realise it was all part of the programme when the camera switched to their dressing room.
Neither Reece nor Steve would sit there bitching about cast members / their colleagues. No idea what they are like in real life but they just wouldn’t!
It was then I knew it was fake, but totally lapped up the rest of the ep 👍🏼

I unfortunately was one of those who switched it over and didn't see it live! Not only that I watched it back on iPlayer and was amazed to see that it still had all the mistakes in it so I even turned off the repeat. What a wally. I only found out it was supposed to be like it from a mate and then at last I watched it.

Just Binged The First Three Seasons On IPlayer And Im Loving It! Can't Wait To Wait To See This One! It's A Shame I Couldnt Watch It Live As I Had No Idea What The Show Was In 2018 But It Looks Great!
I watched this live, and I was convinced it was broken because the story with the red phone looked so planned out. I kept telling my dad to turn it off but he left it on, and I’m so glad he did!
I just realized how the entity got Stephanie. She's on Camera. The recorded Stephanie cut the throat of the real Stephanie. Scary stuff!

As an American, I obviously didn't have the privilege of witnessing this live but I'm sure it was a helluva ride. Lol I watched it on Amazon prime and still had a blast. I'm a DIE HARD fan of the boys from The League of Gentlemen and Steve and Reece's independent work. They're absolute geniuses and I don't think America has anything close to offer to rival them. They're peerless, truly.

@8:40, I rewatched this tonight and it was still pretty scary and very funny all over again; it was even more so when watching it live.
I beat them to it. With a title like 'dead line', I managed to put together when the sound went off... that the 'line' went dead (so to speak). Similar to the season 5 finale, I concluded before the episode even began where the darkness was going go come from. Still a fantastic episode though

I was extremely suspicious when the sound stopped (after checking if it was the TV in the caravan I was staying in). When the announcer came on, I already had a feeling something wasn't right. When they said they were going to A Quiet Night In, I let my guard down. Until the episode started as I knew the music was wrong straight away and I twigged there was nothing wrong with the broadcast at all.
It honestly was a fantastic experience to watch live, I was one of the lucky ones that didn't switch it off
OK, I just checked both Quiet Night Ins starts and they are both the same! It must be when the music went funny that I twigged, bit I was already suspicious so my subconscious must have decided something was wrong before the ghost showed!
Ill admit as soon as the sound went i thought .." Hello something is afoot here what are they doing ? but i enjoyed what i was watching, thats the joy of inside no 9 expecting the unexpected great episode.
I watched it on iPlayer the next morning. Even in broad daylight & not live, it still freaked me out & I've only been able to watch it all the way through once.
I watched this live at the time, and stuck with it through all the ‘technical issues’, knowing it was probably a ruse, but still didn’t expect what eventually played out.
I called my parents and sister after to see if they had watched it, and they said they gave up on it after the repeat started.
I told them to immediately go back and watch it as they had it recorded, and they were not disappointed
I genuinely wonder what the data of the broadcast was like, how many people dropped out at those times!
I have always loved Stephanie Cole and was so happy to see her in this.
Me too, Waiting for God was one of those programmes I keenly watched every week as a youngster.

Okay but in all honesty, I’m glad you compared this to ghostwatch as I believe these two are are the closest we’ve gotten to a fake-live horror film. They are very similar in how they approach their stories. Both are regular programs that go horrifically wrong and end in the deaths or most of the cast members, who play themselves to add to the realism.
These movies are the peak of the found-footage genre, alongside Blair witch.
This live special was how I found out about Inside Number 9.
Hey just found your channel after the new trailer for series 7, love to know what you think... also love how into this series you are, it makes it so much more enthralling... me and my girlfriend tried to watch this on iplayer but because of the faux bugs she said watch it when they fix it so flash forward months later at xmas I tried it again but this time gave it a chance and wasn't disappointed lol

I did not watch the episode live but I did watch it without spoilers. my friends were super tight-lipped about the story, only saying it was filmed live and that it was so good. Though it's not the same as watching it live, I did get so confused and annoyed at the 'technical failures' and the rerun of A Quiet Night In. i literally turned to my partner and asked why the hell was it on iplayer if the episode had this many issues going on! She told me to shush up and keep watching LOL. I'm so glad I did though, because the episode was just brilliant

So disappointed I never got to witness the live episode, only went back to watch it after seeing someone else's review, which naturally spoiled the proceedings, still find it bloody terrifying even knowing what was coming!

Great review, but I disagree with one small point. In your praise, you mention that this was “effortless”. The opposite is true. It was perfection, but it took immense skill and effort from everyone involved for it to work so well!

They have the episode on britbox and being from the us I didn’t get to see this and I hate it I wished I could of seen this live with you all
saw this live, and loved the concept but i honestly thought the end was a bit of a mess for me, it did have me caught out for a while though, thinking the tv was playing up. i also kind of wish they released the episode they were pretending to make later on ( although i dont think there was probably enough meat in that story for a full episode lol)
