Porter went through a 7-year creative block after making his first album, and this new album (Nurture) is almost entirely about his resulting struggles with mental health and creating music. The video for Something Comforting specifically, I think, ties into something he said a while ago: while trying to make music again, he would lock himself in his studio for days at a time trying to come up with new ideas but only became more depressed and hopeless as a result. The fake nature set in the video is his mental space in the studio, constant and never changing, nothing new arriving to inspire him, slowly becoming more wilted and depraved of substance the longer he spends there. It's only when he decided to take a break to go out and see the world that everything opened up again and he got the inspiration he needed to keep making music

It makes the music video make sense now. It's a green garden of inspiration, yet he gets nothing from it (he fishes, gets no fish, builds fire, gets no warmth) yet he still watered the seeds he grew. Even as his inspiration died, like the garden, his seeds would grow. Once he left his garden he felt like he was falling.
At the end it worked out, the garden is fine, it can still disappear, but for now it's there. So I need to go watch this video again now knowing this. Thank you so much for educating me on Porter, and thank you for watching and commenting.

porter robinson is actually the person in the video, he is an EDM artist and a huge anime and video game fan, which inspires a lot of his music. It‘s always nice to see reactions to my favourite artist!

The high pitch voice is actually Porter singing. He uses a plugin to sing with this female voice. And also he is the guy in the videoclip. Nice raction!

nurture had to grow on me, but it’s become one of my favorite projects of the year
idk how or why i got recommended this vid but im a huge porter fan myself. Definitely recommend checking out his album nurture. His previous album worlds is catered more towards the edm market but still a fantastic album. Also surprised how you remained completely still listening to this song. im always bobbing my head to it haha.

I've always interpreted this song as a fight between what makes him happy and what makes him popular. I may be completely wrong that's just how I've always seen it. The clear voice songs pretty hopeful lyrics and the tunes voice gives depressing lyrics and at the end they start combining until the tuned voice takes over
