- After his fixed gear racing exploits at the Red Hook crit James was excited to take his fixie racing up a gear with an invitation to the Rad Race in Berlin. Raced over a tight and technical circuit with only one gear and no brakes it’s an exciting evening of racing with a legendary afterparty.

Only if it was single speed. I ride the same gear ratio on my all-purpose single-speed (44:17 or 36:14), so i would be very interested finding out how i would do with the gear i am used to. There should be some up- and downhill sections though ;)

Content like this gives the presenters a lot of weight when they talk cycling. I know they're former pros, but seeing them compete in these events really shows us they still have the ability to "walk the walk and talk the talk".

Insane! Not just the riding but the whole video. The production team needs a big shout-out for this level of editing and filming. I can't believe this video's are still free for us. Great video with intense riding and music that was gripping from start to finish. Thoroughly enjoyed that.

Seriously? I thought it was *way* over-produced and GCN missed an opportunity here to show some great racing. 3 minutes to just explain what the race is, no race footage of any kind until 9 minutes in.
Agree that I really enjoyed this video. A different style than many of the GCN videos (which I also like) but this is a nice change

One step off the podium in his second fixed gear race in two years I think is pretty awesome.
Little late to the party ...but The on lap he went all out got him the fastest lap time. I got the impression that as a commercial/invited guest it would be in poor taste to take a podium position, so he held back a little.

Best racing vid I have seen on GCN, James is a power house, even with minimal experience on fixed gear and delayed clip ins, he delivered, would definitely look out for more content like this.
First rate James. fantastic overtake, undertake skills. GO pro footage allows us a great view of how close you all are fighting it out for position. This edit gets my vote for 'edit of the year' and its only March !!.
Racing on that rubberised surface makes a lot of sense in that style. It's full on, but you wouldn't lose nearly as much skin (especially with sleeves).

He probably has a regular cycle event insurance. People aren’t so quick to sue in Europe as they are in the US.
@@JulianAllen13 Basically, when something gets broken, it gets broken. Nothing is insured there, except stuff, that belongs to the host.

@@dc8890 i was a roadie for 5 years, 5 months on breakless fixed gear. Not going back. Fixed gear is simple, quiet and fast.
@@silentcyclist Fixies are definitely appealing, but only if you live in a relatively flat area. If I ever move back to London then I might get a fixie. They are definitely great for relatively flat cities. But my current area has some very steep hills and I don't think a fixie would be suitable at all. I need gears for those hills.
@@dc8890 i had a road bike for 5 years. i live in a area with lots of hills. my legs are getting use to heavy pedaling. and much stronger than when i was riding my road bike.
Road on a road and XC mountain bike for years, got a nice fixie in college was more fun than either. Gave it up a few years ago and now I’m currently shopping for fixie parts online it’s just so much fun I miss it

Congrats! 4th place for an event you've never done before - awesome! These type of events, and others like the Red Hook crit series, might be a great part of the future of competitive cycling. Perhaps expand this idea to try road cycling races on race car tracks.

One of the most exciting GCN videos ever. I thought the music fit the video really well, but it was just a little too loud at times where I would have liked to be able to also hear the crowd to get a feel for the atmosphere around the track.

Not sure how convinced I am by the intro since I clearly remember how buzzed you were after Red Hook. ;P Awesome, awesome video! Btw, "Rad" means bike in German so Rad Race is a pretty clever play with words as well as obviously a pretty brillaint event.

I still have no bloody clue how you did so much overtaking on the second qualifier. This is such a technical course with virtually no space. The races really seem to be determined by the start. At least I thought so... and then I see you taking sweet lines overtaking like a demon, mate!
