I have always used soft stretch lace to tie them on the cylinders, i think i like the tape better. Watching you, i wondered if one could have the pvc pipe cut lengthwise and then put the spine on a full piece and press one half of the other over it. I know ive see them do that to make something or other calling them clips. It may be difficult to press it on, but it would be so much faster in the long run if it worked. Might have to press the halves on and off several times to stretch them out? Then just use the rubber bands around them, or maybe they wouldnt be needed at all. I once had 5 acres that i made into a oh lol cant think of what its called, safe haven for birds. But to do that i had to put up 5 strands of barbed wire, they said to keep everything else out. I hate barbed wire. I did not use the barbed and just plain hot wire, it went through. I had a seasonal stream the crossed the length so the birds loved it there. Who cares what the neighbors think!
I love the way you think! But an challeng might be (I've not tried this physically - yet) that a pvc pipe cut in half would not fit inside of itself, perhaps it it we cute slightly asymmetrically? Still thinking about it, but I LOVE you idea so I will try it the next time I'm near a table saw!
@sparkbirdstudios maybe a slightly bigger pipe for the outside part, so they fit? I'm going to consult an "expert" (my brother, who is very creative and builds things for me 😂) and will come back with the answer! I really like this idea!
@@annarocha25 -- I remember seeing them cut pieces of pipe lengthwise and snapping them over the pipe, i really thought they used the same size so it fit tightly. I dont rem what they were making, furniture maybe? its been a long long time. Maybe a google search is needed , good luck!
Hey there! The second part of the cover goes up today! (But has been available to supporters on my ko-fi page since yesterday...for those who really can not wait!)
Hi! Thanks for a great video! I just have a question about the direction of the grain in the cardboard. You mark out the direction of the grain, but I can’t find how the direction should be when you cut out your pieces for the spine. And why is the direction of the grain important? Should it be easy to bend the spine or hard for more sturdiness? Thank you for your great videos!
Great question. Sorry I didn't make it clear in the video. The direction of the grain is important when you're gluing sheets of paper together. If you glue them with grains going in different directions the papers/card stock have a tendency to curl as they dry. Also, when folding, or in this case bending, the card stock, the paper will resist being folded/curved against the grain. Bending with the grain makes for an easier and cleaner bend/fold.
Awesome idea! Looking for to the next video, thank you!
I am so excited! I’ve been waiting for this! Thank you so much Christine!
I know! And I'm so glade you'll be making one for yourself.
Thank you, I've been pondering how to make the spine bands! Your videos and techniques are very helpful!
You are so welcome!
This is a great video! You make it look so easy😂. Thank you for the step by step, it is so helpful! Hugs 🤗❤️
Repeat after me: It IS easy! It IS easy!
fascinating !!
And so easy!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing! 😊

And you're right - about the neighbors! The pollinators are so much more important

Thank you for the clarification! Now I’m going to watch the rest of the curved spine videos. Take care!
