you technically wouldn't. you'd put on a durag/wave cap with a shower cap on top. so its best to have this changed out at least every 2 weeks. or at least cover the restored part the best you can and wash the real hair

With proper maintenance, after about a a week an a half the unit starts to come apart. All you need is soap and water to remove it completely.
