  • Experience what hearing loss feels like with this hearing loss simulator from Miracle-Ear. Listen to the sound changes in “See the USA in Your Chevrolet” to learn what different levels of hearing loss can sound like. Please adjust your volume to a comfortable level before watching this hearing loss simulation video.
This hearing loss simulation video is meant to show the decrease in sensitivity to sound that accompanies hearing loss. As sensorineural hearing loss progresses, it becomes more difficult to distinguish sounds and process auditory information. If you or a loved one is suffering from hearing loss, visit your nearest Miracle-Ear hearing center to learn about treatments.

I can relate to this very much. I'm 14 and I have a severe to profound hearing loss. I only have very low hearing in my left ear and no hearing in my right. I was born with it. People have no idea how it's a struggle for me every day. I'm not as self-conscious and embarrassed about it anymore but it's still hard. :/ I have hearing aids but most people still don't understand.

I have moderate to severe hearing loss, and I wear hearing aids. It is a constant challenge to get people to understand my condition. They believe that my hearing aids cure the problem. I have to explain that hearing aids are just aids, they do not cure. Plus, some people will actually make jokes about my hearing loss thinking that it is funny. I asked them, would you make jokes about sight to a blind person. They said no because that would be mean. I said, well, the same goes for being hard of hearing. Most people don't know I am hard of hearing because my hearing aids are inside my ear and I have long hair. I actually had someone say, you don't look deaf. I never knew that being deaf made you look a certain way.

Do you get the "What?" joke all the time? I get it so often I wanna smack the person across the head for it!

Panagyra, OMG yes I get that all the time. I know how you feel. It does get on my nerves and people really don't get how offensive it is to us.

Almost as offensive as people asking if you really have hearing loss, (in my case, deafness in one ear,) right after you say that you actually do have it. "No, I lied. I just wanted insulting comments and people treating me like I'm an oddity, or becoming my friend just so they can say they have a friend who's partially deaf. No, I really don't have hearing loss. Thanks, much."

tina bonstaff I feel ya! I have 68% hearing loss and i wear hearing aids, too. Its really annoying when people ask what's in your ear or how can you hear if you're deaf. It's hard to explain to people. People get so annoyed when I ask "what?'" all the time, but I usually say "you know what? You go make yourself deaf and see how you feel."

Even people are so mean and ignorant while I have a disability . Which mean it get very frustrated. I get mad easily or possibly cry. I am 16 years old.

i am also 16 and that same goes for me, i was bullied in grade 7, since then i had kept a secret from my class that i have a disability....but now the enviroment which i live in is friendly and people here don't care if i had disability or not, but i am still scared of telling them...

I've been hard of hearing all my life. So its quite normal to me. Until I see this, now it like, wow my hearing sucks!

This is very accurate! I use hearing aids as I have severe hearing loss and the last scenario is quite accurate, but quite a bit better than mine. Likely more indicative of hearing loss die to age as opposed to my situation :)

Hearing about y'all younger than me, 25, having hearing loss makes me grateful that I am alive with nothing higher than 10db of hearing loss. I thought for sure I had moderate hearing loss when feeling pain in my face, but turns out my sinus was fucked up.

I am in profound hearing loss, and I do need read lips all the times. I can't hear high frequency with hearing aids on. So yeah, hearing aids don't cure, but just aids.

I'm only 23, and I have mild hearing loss. I've got a hole in my right ear drum, which causes the vibration sequences to not send my brain the message the sounds from those vibrations to pass all the way to my Brian to process what I'm hearing. This can cause some issues with talking by not knowing if I'm speaking loudly or too quietly, and can turn into an issue at work in communications and alarms or certain sounds I need to hear. It can make it hard to hear or understand what noises or what someone is trying to say to you.

I have moderate hearing loss...and it's hard for people to understand why I don't always hear them and they get frustrated toward me. Maybe more simulations like this might help people. But like hulurocker said, she's enunciating and most people don't..and they mumble...which makes it even harder :/

I heard her just fine for the most part because like someone said here, she enunciates almost every word. But in normal convos it's fill in the blank, especially if there's background noise and if you're a guy. Unless, when a woman's voice is softer or quieter and there's background noise then that sucks. I don't remember when my hearing started to decline, maybe two to four years ago, but it's sucks working blue collar jobs and guys primarily think im either stupid or on drugs because i don't understand them. 😅 Nah dude, you're mumbling to me but they're just talking...
