  • In this collaboration between DMU's Audiology and Drama departments, the experiences of people with mild hearing loss are presented and performed by actors. They speak poignantly, frankly and sometimes amusingly about how it has affected family, work, relationships and social life and how the first signs of hearing loss manifested themselves.

Very relatable project for those of us with some hearing loss ❤️☺️ very much enjoyed! I hate always being told “you’re so loud quiet down!” It’s embarrassing but I really can’t hear myself or others well. I am really a resilient person but some others are so mean about it I’ve even cried once.

This was very well done. As a person who has hearing issues and wears hearing aids, I really appreciate and relate to many things discussed here.

I have moderate hearing issues but it’s very unique because it doesn’t effect frequency as much or decibels it’s more having a hard time with hearing with background sounds and I can’t tell where noises come from a lot of times

I relate to these situations, as well, being who has hearing loss who uses hearing aids.

I have moderate loss (my worse ear is almost completely deaf, it has like -60 dB up until 1.5k and then it nosedives into -90 dB) and have aids and while for the most part I can cope fine, the absolute worst are random encounters of people in street or shops, who ask or say something. I ask them to repeat what they say, then again and then it gets awkward. Sometimes if I feel that situation is hopeless I don't bother at all. I usually just say yes or no and hope that they will go away. Sometimes I don't do that and try to painfully figure out what they say, but every time I did that those people just stopped bothering and walked away, leaving me feeling just as much shit as always. I honestly still have no idea what I should do in such situations.
