The song ist about the relationship between the band members of Rammstein and also can be seen as expressing mourning over the loss of a loved person. Rammstein wanted to break up one or the other time and that is why they had even therapy sessions. But they always decided to stay together. For Heitmann (film direktor of this video) , the emotional message in the video is very important; Ohne dich shows unity in the band. Richard said that the most important thing is to stick together, everything else is irrelevant.Therefore Rammstein is one of the few Bands that have managed to play in the same line up and with the same members for almost 30 years since they were founded.
The funny thing is that Flake (Keyboarder) still denies that he is a member of Rammstein, because he actually never wanted to be part of Rammstein from the start because the music was too "simple" for him. Till and Richard always wanted to start solo careers. In addition, the Rammstein members constantly argued about every song, every video and every live show, how it could be done better. It actually almost came to a break up with the "Mother" video. Till shot the video alone without really involving the other band members. Rammstein not only had one group therapy with a psychologist over the years, but nevertheless they could never be without each other
There were 5 or 6 ideas for this video. Some of the band members wanted to make a video at sea, others wanted to make it in the mountains. Richard wanted to make a video based on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Match Girl" because it was the only fairy tale that made him cry, but the idea was rejected.. According to Joern Heitmann (film director), this is the most emotionally engaging video he has ever made with the band.
For the video, the band members grew beards, because in the mountains there is no time to shave. Flake was the only one to have an artificial one. During the making of, Till can be seen wearing a shirt which makes fun of Flake and his beard. The climbing scene was shot on one of the climbing walls next to a parking lot, and the band could go as high as they wanted to. The band was accompanied by an experienced climbing team who taught them how to correctly climb the wall.
The video was shot at +20 degrees. The snow was artificial, and the snow storm was created with the help of machines. Emanuel Fialik's assistant expressed his concerns about whether any of the band members would get hurt while shooting a video in the middle of the tour. Heitmann claimed that no one would have been able to stop Till from playing the falling scene.
The original idea was that Flake would have to carry Till together with Schneider at 3,400 m above sea level, which was physically impossible for him. Richard admits that everyone always fights for their own scene when shooting videos and everyone wants to be able to play a part, so it's hard to work with them on the set.

❤️This song was made after the Mutter Album when they almost broke up. Rammstein is like a democracy every member is heard and all must agree before anything gets passed. During the recording of the songs for the Mutter Album...For one song, not known which, Till wrote 24 different lyrics before finally, everyone in the band agreed and it finally made it on the album.
when they began having problems they decided to go to counseling both as individuals and as a group..in an interview Richard said that Rammstein is like a marriage but without the sex..Ohne dich shows unity in the band and Richard said the most important thing is to stick together, everything else is irrelevant.🙂💕💕

As I mentioned in the first upload, I view the lyrical "I" as a dying soldier in the trenches. As for the video, when everyone is in the text and Ollie is etching into the metal plate, that's a mountaineering thing where you etch someone's memorial into their mess kit plate. So they know Till won't make it.
Yo guys. I'm Norwegian, and i've been listening to Rammstein since early 2000. And I don't understand German. But somehow. I've been to 2 Rammsstein concerts. One in 2011 and one just recent i Oslo 2022. And I have NO IDEA what they are saying. BUT the MUSIC is so fucking great, that I don't have to.

This is an ode to friendship and family. Not necesarily about love to a partner. :D Its about companions PS: Till is the son of a german poet and he has published poetry as well. German is a great language for poetry jsut like russian is. You have a lot of words that describe a feeling. A certain one. Best example si the earworm (ohrwurm) when a song is stuck in your head. If you have words for specific situations it makes a poetry feel alive and relateable. German is funny anyways. You put two seperate words togetehr and they make sense. Glove in german means Handschuh - Hand is hand and schuh is shoe :D SO its a shoe for your hand.
For fun you may want to react to the song Haifisch and the music video to it, which is sort of a sequel to this video and the song is killer.

There is a making of video which is actually very funny.
The lyrics are absolutely myterious and there are many explanations. Some say, it is about drugs, some say it is about loosing a loved one. For me it only makes sense to go into the firs to see someone when you killed him or her before.
The vieo was on high rotation at VIVA and mtv when it came out.

Maybe you should also have a look at the video to "Haifisch". The band uses some scenes from other videos in it where those scenes then again get a totally different meaning 😉 Haifisch is about unity and staying together and that the band consists of 6 members ("Six hearts on fire") but the video shows the opposite. I just love the intelligence behind everything they do!

As someone who learned Deutsche to further appreciate Rammstein, it is surprising how grammatically concise their lyrics are. Till Lindemann sings exactly what he intends to without a lot of fluff, but it truly defines their sound.
Check out Knorkator if you haven't already. Another fantastic German rock group but far sillier. They bill themselves as "Germany's most band in the world"
