    Thank you so much, as your videos keep me going. I just love the banter and how you are always so enthusiastic about our sport. I had an accident a few weeks ago and basically lost most of my left hand. Your videos have kept me going through some dark days. I have my bike set up in my shed on a turbo trainer and in the spring I hope to get it adapted so I can get back out and crunch some miles. I have set my goal at 2025 miles as long as my hand can stick it!

      Charles, I’m so sorry to hear this. I can’t imagine what you must have gone through (and continue to go through) with an incident like that and hope the rest of you wasn’t too badly injured. I’m truly honoured that you say my videos have got you through such a tough time and I really wish you the speediest of recoveries.
      I hope it’s not too premature to say this, but in the spirit of trying to get you back on two wheels ASAP, and the practicalities of adjusting to such a life changing injury, hopefully you can set up some kind of 1x system on your bike, to avoid the need to use the left shifter.
      Please keep me updated though, as I’d love to hear how you’re progressing and recovering. Please feel free to drop me a line on IG at petertreadwaycycling.
      Rest and recover well, my friend.

    Love pottering on the trails in the UK, out in nature, no traffic, mud squishing slushily under tyre, brilliant.
    My goal is simply to get out more often on the bike, been quite lazy lately.

      Laziness happens easily, Greg. Life likes to get in the way sometimes, so don't beat yourself up too much. That said, it sounds like this video is just the kick you need to get back out there, so I hope you find yourself back on the trails soon.

    Great video, very brave of you all . . My year runs from May 12th to May 11th, because our first lock down ended on the 12 of May and I then started to count my kilometres. I am at 7600 so far so on target for 10,000k for the year , fingers crossed. I am lucky as I am retired so ride 5 days a week walk on the other two plus I play sports with a group of young French people one evening each week which I love. So my new targets will be set in May, I think just not die yet is my target. Thank you again for the great entertainment Mr Treadway. Keep going

      10k km in a year is an incredible achievement though. Retirement or otherwise, riding that far takes dedication and passion, so I doff my cap to you, Sir. Chapeau!
      I'm sure that beautiful French diet and sports with some youngsters is serving you well too. I'm very envious of your lifestyle!

    Another good video. My plans for this year. A few days gravel riding in Wales and Scotland in May and June. Solstice with a difference. Rapha London to Rapha Manchester over the shortest night. Leave LDN after coffee and cake, just before it closes. Then ride to MNR for breakfast. Watching this video has given me an idea for some free time I have in August. Train to Bishops's Stortford: ride the Flitch Trail and have lunch in Braintree, then back to BSD and a train home. And like you I've started running. This will be my second year. I did a half marathon last May. I'm doing the Brighton marathon in April.

    Hi Peter, the weather looks terrible, but I'm happy to see you're still wearing short parts. I'm a little jealous to see you riding, I haven't had my ass on a bike since I finished the festive 500 on December 30th. On New year's eve morning it started snowing, and it just won't stop, it's over a meter deep in some place's. -25⁰ at night, but the day's warm up to around -10⁰. Perhaps not the best conditions for shorts 😂😂.
    I wish you the best of luck with this year's challenge (400 hour's of excersise), I'm 100% sure that you're both mentally and physically strong enough to ace that challenge. You talked about Jimmy riding a 90's mountain bike today, and he really likes it. I have to agree with him, I also have an old mountain bike from the late 80's. I've changed many things on the bike, I didn't change the forks, because , along with the frame they are 4130 cr-mo. I regret changing/upgrading all the parts that weren't broken, I'd be to embarrassed to tell you how much I've spent on that bike. Do I enjoy it more now than before the Chris King, Paul components, Son 28, Rohloff, etc, etc upgrades ???? Absolutely not ! To me there's something magical about riding an old bike that somebody's thrown out, but when you start spending ridiculously large amounts of money on , "blingy" components for said bike, the magic instantly dissapears. Of course that's just my opinion.
    So my recommendation for Jimmy is to stick with the steel fork, because if he's only half as stupid as me, which I'm sure he isn't, he might not stop at just changing the fork. No disrespect to Jimmy.
    Wow, such a long comment . One last thing. I think that you and your GACC gang should do VÄTTERNRUNDAN. Ryanair fly from Stanstead to Örebro.
    Neil.

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Chapeau on completing the F500, Neil. That's a stellar achievement. I have this idea of doing it all in one day (well, it might take slightly more than 24 hours, but in one ride at least) one year, but I'm yet to make it happen! Maybe 2025 will be my year.
      As for Jimmy's bike, you're right, it's great as it is at the moment, but might not be the best candidate to start lobbing ever more money at! I've got some irons in the fire on that front though, so watch this space.
      As for the VÄTTERNRUNDAN, having just looked it up, that looks EPIC! I'm making a list of all of these incredible rides around the world, so all I can say is 'one day, my friend, one day'! 💪

      I've done a couple of videos on it now, Rick, so was concerned I'd given too many updates! 🤣
      Always more than happy to oblige but in short though, I remain incredibly impressed with it. As I've mentioned in previous videos, there's really no such thing as a 100% waterproof AND breathable jacket, so even with the most expensive ones, you're still going to end up a bit moist from condensation inside the jacket, as is the case with this one. However, I'd much rather spend £20 to find that out than 10 times that amount!
      As an aside, it's also a cracking wind stopper too, as I discovered this morning on a -6˚C ride. I took it along with me, tucked in my rear jersey pocket in case it rained. However, the wind nearly killed me within 2 minutes of setting off, but as soon as I put this on, I warmed up immediately. Honestly can't praise it enough.

      Regards bike boxes, I've never actually travelled with my bike before but from what I've heard from friends, the best thing is simply a cardboard bike box with plenty of padding around the frame. That way you can simply discard it at the other end. Most bike shops will be happy to supply you with a box, as they only need to get rid of them themselves after they've built a bike up. I know you did not intend to, but this video is sort of an anti Gravel Bike advertisement: The riding conditions were not overly harsh and the trail was not too difficult - barely S0. And even then the MTBer rides like a king on his throne whereas the Gravelers sit on their bikes like monkeys on grindstones. Kind of reassured me why I only own Road Bikes and Mountain Bikes - they are just the proper tools for their respective jobs. The Gravel Bikes are sort of a tool looking for a purpose, I' reckon a rigid fork MTB is still better on gravel than a Gravelbike.

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  วันที่ผ่านมา

      To each their own opinion, but I'm not sure where you got Jimmy and I sitting like monkeys on grindstones? Mark actually commented that his MTB felt a bit too heavy, which is why he enjoyed jumping on Jimmy's budget gravel conversion I made for him. It's also why he's recently just built u another bike from an old Cannondale frame to take on the Dirty Reiver when we head up there.
      For me, Gravel bikes give you the flexibility and versatility to cover most surfaces. Fairly light and nimble to play on the road, but then chunkier tyres and grip for the rougher stuff. Obviously you're not going to throwing it around berms or flying off jumps with one, as there geometry isn't set up for it, but otherwise there's nothing better for going from road to off road than a gravel.
      But I doubt that would be enough to change your mind, nor would I try to.

    • @notrain13
      @notrain13 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@petertreadway From your footage it appeared quite sketchy/slippery with the more narrow gravel tires and narrower bars. The monkey on grindstone bit is referring to the posture on a gravel (or vintage MTB) - you aren't sitting in the bike but are perched on top of it which is just not ideal for single track, not even for the simple single track shown in the video. The point I was trying to make is that you might be overbiked with a MTB on gravel, but you can still ride it comfortably and fast (you can use gravel tires and/or a rigid fork if you want) but with gravel bikes you often come into bits where you are suddenly underbiked, and that is always worse than being overbiked. I'm looking forward to your MTB build, if you build something decent I think you will see my comments in a different light. I think you will end up picking the MTB over your gravel bike for a lot of tours once you have both for a while.

    • @petertreadway
      @petertreadway  6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @notrain13 @notrain13 I get what you’re saying and if I were to tackle any routes that were exclusively off road, then I’m sure an MTB would make a bit more sense, but as you’ll see from my latest video, we took on this trail again, but at points we had to leave the trail to take road sections between various points and that is the case for pretty much any ride I do. There’ll always be a mixture of road and trail.
      But who knows, perhaps I will see MTB in a new light once I’ve built one. That’s the beauty of cycling though. No matter your preference, there’s a bike out there for you. 👌🏻
