    Alarm hand is moving but unable to set alarm.

    • @ullasu1788
      @ullasu1788  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be that the pin that sets the alarm is broken or fallen off. Usually, a sewing needle cut to size can be used to fix that

    I have a similar clock, I think its the same with just a different face design, my grandmother gave it to my sister few years ago but idk what my sister did but it just stopped working, I kept it with myself for a few years now as I couldnt trust my sister with it, I have opened it up but dont see any damage. When shaken the clock will work for a few seconds and sometimes for a few minutes, so I think cleaning should work as there is a little dust in there, when I kept it stored away it was fully winded and still seems to be the same, do you think that could affect the winding coil? also any suggestions on how to clean the gears and which oil to use, I'll just keep it disassembled till then.
    Update: The disassembly didnt go well, I couldnt remove the minute hand so I continued removing gears from the back without removing it, turned out to be a bad idea as it made the seconds hand deformed and bringing it back to shape made some of the paint coating fall off, i was able to put everything bad together, so all I did was just ruin the face of the watch and cut my hand for no reason, anyone else thinking of this please don't, just take it to a professional rather than risk damage to an important item.

    • @ullasu1788
      @ullasu1788  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do put a disclaimer in every videos for the same reason, if you do work on a heirloom, you most likely end up causing one damage or the other, if it's your first time. I learnt after making many such mistakes, and am at a position where I'm confident enough now, to work on something important to me or someone. Don't worry though, all's not lost. If you still like to restore it, I can recommend a few places in Bangalore. Replacement hands are not impossible to find, and if it's a metal dial, you may be able to undo some damage too. To clean, usually kerosene, petrol, or some commercially available watch cleaning solutions are also used. You can message me with pictures on 9686951979, and I'll try to help to the best extant. The clock in this video is my grandfather's, and I understand how it feels if something happens to it. Sorry for late reply though, was busy with work

    • @ullasu1788

      Well, I use an ammonia based watch cleaner. Even petrol or kerosene is used by some. Tbh, for a clocks brass movement, cleaning with a water with mild detergent to remove old oil and gunk is in itself sufficient to my knowledge. As far as oil is concerned, i use an oil made for clocks.

    • @ullasu1788
      @ullasu1788  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no click in my HES and other HES I have seen too sir. The way what I follow is, I take out the balance wheel, then loosen the nut on the right bottom corner, by a few threads. Lift the plate up, but not too much, such that you can take out the Lever without damaging it , or any thing else. Make sure you don't dislodge other wheels out of their place too (If that happens, try correcting that carefully). The clock should start unwinding as soon as you take the Lever out. You can also stop the wheels inserting a long screwdriver or something while you take the Lever off, and then take that out and let it unwind. It works well for me. Take good care while doing it though.

    With due respect
    The main springs should be partially wound in anti clock motion to form coil and then fitted with the main wheels and set in the framework. Wheels can be set within the framework after thorough cleaning and the pivots checked and the respective holes checked and corrected for proper alignment. Lever pins if worn out to be adjusted or replaced if fully worn out.Bearing screws to be thoroughly cleaned and checked for wear and tear.Balance staff to be replaced if short or polished to a conical shape and finally refitted with the plate.
    Mere assembling and dismantling doesn't mean servicing. Before completing all these aspects the total machinery needs to be cleaned in ammonium solution and rinsed in alcohol or white petrol, properly dried and refitted.Oiling to be done at the tail part of the servicing activity

      Dear sir, thank you for your input. I have no where mentioned, including in the title of the video, that this is a clock service video. I took the video of just the assembly. I had cleaned the clock, check the alignment and condition of pivots and lever, dried the parts and then started this. I do agree that I have made mistakes. I am self thought. I do this as a hobby on my own watches and clocks and the tools and supplies I have are limited. I'm more comfortable with watches than I'm with clocks, and I'm trying to learn and improve my skills as much as I can. In this regard, the books you have mentioned should be invaluable. I'll search those books and I will definitely refer them.

    Unable to set alarm. How to fix that?
    Alarm hand is moving but unable to set alarm.

    • @ullasu1788
      @ullasu1788  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There would be a small pin on the gear that sets alarm. If that has fallen out of place, that will cause such issues usually. To check, try rotating the alarm hand 360 degrees. At one point, you should hear a 'click'. If you don't, the pin may have fallen off or broken. It can be replaced with an ordinary needle, cut to size. You have to remove the hands and dial to access it

    • @dheerendrabinwal
      @dheerendrabinwal 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ullasu1788 hey. Thank you for such detailed answer. I checked. The pin is there. But there is no click sound. The small pin is moving freely so that is why there is no click sound. Does the pin get loose or something too? Cause i saw. There was a small place where the pin should rest. But it not resting at that place and moving freely 360°

    • @ullasu1788

      @@dheerendrabinwal it can get loose, or sometimes it can catch the alarm wheel and spin with it too. It can also be that, a kind of spring, which should push the alarm setting wheel against the pin is somewhat weak, and not doing it's job sir. If you can see the pin, and if you can send a picture of the same, i may be able to say what is the issue
