I have a 36” Blackstone and a small one for RV and there are 2 things I hate about both. After 3 years of cooking on it, it still gets a big rust area on the griddle. I’ve cured it numerous times. Secondly, the grease pan in the back is difficult to get to and unless you get the tray perfectly placed the grease will drip everywhere. So with the Weber, the slate cook top is great, no rusting and the front grease pan and grease opening is really convenient and less messy. I sold my small Blackstone and replaced it with a small Weber. The lid on Webers is a con, albeit I will use a portable lid. The small Weber has adjustable feet to get it level which is another super nice feature. I’ll see how I like this small Weber before I think about buying this larger one.
If you mentioned these I missed it. But I think the biggest “cons” of this griddle is the lid not being cook safe which would be handy for steaming things and melting cheese. And second is the cheap plastic caster wheels are really unacceptable at this price point.
Thanks for sharing this info. I was getting ready to upgrade from Blackstone, but this is really an epic fail. In-use safe lid is, indeed, great for melting cheese on burgers and cheesesteaks. Agree 100% with your assessment. Unacceptable at this price point.
I just can't see spending that much money. I spent $499 on last years model weber 36 inch 4 burner griddle. 4 caster wheels, hinged lid and two fixed side tables. I found a blackstone utility cart with a big storage drawer, two shelves and a storage compartment with a door for $100. I still paid less than this 30" griddle and almost half the price of the new 36" 4 burner. Purchase last year's model and save a lot of money.
Great video and thank you for sharing. I have a question, how did you decide on which size of griddle to get? I want to purchase one, but still undecided between the 30” and 36” model?
Thanks! My previous was 28inches and the before was a 36. Cooking for a family of 4 I did not utilize the entire 36 inch flat top while the 28 was a really good size. Going up to a 30 made a minimal difference and we never had issues of not have enough space
Thanks for doing this kind of video. I saw this model and it seemed to be built really well. Just very expensive. I wonder why they can’t get the thermometer dialed in better.
Thinking of adding a pizza oven to my cooking arsenal but don’t think I’d use it enough, can you do a video on all the different cooks/recipes you use the oven for, more than for pizza ? Just a thought. Thanks
Great video as always. I would definitely love to see a review of the Gozney pizza oven. I am interested in getting one, so that would be very helpful.
It’s dumb how the stainless removable table on the right won’t fit over the top of the plastic removable tray. A HUGE oversight that could have been such an easy feature.
anyone else getting the Leo DiCaprio vibes. LOL. Nice setup. I have a Weber 18" charcoal (had for YEARS now), a Genesis E330 "special edition" 3 burner (circa 2014 ish) and am looking to add a griddle, maybe the new 36".
@@GrillinWithDad thanks! I’ve been able to accomplish most cooks but I’m tired of the insert griddles. Just don’t do it for me. Time to get a dedicated griddle and I’ve been waiting for a proper entry from Weber.
Spot on. I love my Blackstone. But within a month, paint was peeling in numerous places. Soon to be followed by rust. And it had been covered with the OEM factory cover, which is of very high build quality (unlike the grill). Will be getting one of these soon.
Thanks for the feedback. I think it’s too early for to compare the two especially with con’s. Over time it will be interesting to see if the weber flat top holds up based on numerous cooks and different seasons. The pro’s are the rust proof properties. That’s a big one for me.
Weber keep pushing back the launch date in the UK so if you want this, you're going to totally miss the summer grilling season. Was June, now expected sometime in July...wouldn't be surprised if it ends up launching in Autumn or Winter in the UK. They can't give me a fixed date so I'm just going to get a Blackstone instead. 🤷♂
Simple, thanks. Did you season it out of the box or just wash it? I know it comes preseasoned but I’ve seen reviews where people still need to pre season.
I have the same model. Had to special order from HD. People complaining about price but this is replacing a 36 inch blackstone culinary from Lowe’s that started rusting within 2 months. Took Blackstone 5 months and several photos to replace the top which also rusted. Weber is built like a tank. I did not season it before cooking and it worked great. Do not regret the purchase at all. The same griddle from Ace Hardware has doors on the bottom vs the two buckets if someone prefers doors.
Great review. Weber needs to slash the pricing though. It's a griddle. No need for them to be so expensive. I bought my Blackstone pro series griddle years ago for $149. It's 28" has 3 burners, towel dispenser, prep tables on both sides and has a closing lid. My Blackstone is still in excellent condition because I keep it covered and in the garage. If weber wants to bring this product to the masses they need to lower their pricing. Or I suggest people save their money and buy a Blackstone.
Your Blackstone is only in decent condition because you keep it in the garage. Mine had loads of peeling paint within a month, and it was covered with the Blackstone OEM cover. Pretty obvious that they did not use high temp spray paint (or failed to clean or properly prep the metal). If money is an issue, you can get by with one because the cooking performance is still decent. But I am looking to trade up to Weber quality. Buy once, cry once.
@@ILruffian I said my Blackstone is in excellent condition. If your unable to afford a home that has a garage I see how that might be a problem leaving it exposed to the elements all year around. But you also have to keep with the maintenance by cleaning it and reseasoning it after every cook.🤷♂️even weber grills can rust up and get paint peeling.
@@GeorgeNadaYT If I can afford a $1,000 griddle, I can definitely afford a home with a garage. But I'd rather have a grill that I can keep on my patio where I have parties. Sorry, not going to ask three people to carry it up four stone steps every time I want to use it. I have no issues with the cooking surface rusting. But the paint on the wind guards and the grill itself peeled off within one month of owning it. It's a well-documented issue with Blackstones. Sorry, that type of stuff does not routinely happen with Weber products that quickly. Others are speculating that Blackstone does not use high heat spray paint. They are probably correct.
@@GeorgeNadaYT Wow, you're a dick. First you say that the Weber is too expensive and that you bought a $149 griddle instead. Then you bring someone down by saying they can't afford a house with a garage. The irony is strong.
Seriously can't make my mind up about a griddle. Just looks like you are cooking fat all the time whereas a BBQ the grease drops down into the pan! I like the look of a Griddle but this seems pretty unhealthy not that i am a health junkie lol
It’s like cooking on a pan inside the house. All you need to use is a little bit of olive oil so the food doesn’t stick to the flat top. I use bacon fat or beef tallow because that’s what I prefer and yet still majority of the time use plain olive oil. But overall you can cook healthy foods on it.
My wife said, why you going to pay that for a grill when we can't afford to buy the meat to put on it after you buy it. She said if you want to grill, gather some fire wood, put some rocks in a circle and put the iron skillet on it. Then for the price you going to put on the credit card, you can fill the freezer with meat. My jaw flew open in AH. That's why i love my wife.
Apparently, we all just have too much money and have lost our critical thinking skills. Didn’t we move outside so we could NOT cook on a skillet and use charcoal with omg…flames? Now look at us…gas, pellets, now these must have griddles. Once the market is saturated with the old stuff…poof, another “new” idea. Omg….save your $$$, go back in the house and buy a $20 cast iron pan from Costco.
Lol yeah try to cook for a large party of people in a cast iron or 2. Be isolated in a hot kitchen and smoke out your whole house while everyone is in the back yard enjoying the gathering. I'm betting you just don't have $1k to buy one of these and you're just bitter. Dumbest, comment, ever.
I love my cast iron skillet, but it is messy making smash burgers and not enough space for a family of 3. Cooking multiple steaks at once would be a huge blessing! I absolutely prefer cooking my food outside as opposed to inside. I'm still on the fence though about purchasing one.

Weber always goes cheep on the wheels! I agree, at this price point, it should be coming stock with better wheels!!
Agree with both, do the casters have stems? If so, I've replaced them on my other grills, but yes, we should not have to at this price.
Wow Leonardo di Caprio doing a griddle review!! Nice!!!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Do you find the heat coming up from around the griddle to be too hot?
Just put mine together. Being a long time Weber guy with lots of kettles, The lid feels durable enough to cook with closed.
My guess is it'll warp the lid over time
What does the manufacture know right🤣
THANKS for a great video! I just got a 36" Slate last Friday and have been cooking on it ever since. LOVE it.
Awesome!!
The slate doesn’t replace the last model as far as I know. It’s just a class up.
I was seriously thinking about getting the original griddle, until I saw this review. I think the Slate would work better for me in the future.
Very nice review that gave me a lot of info on this griddle. I will compare to the blackstone griddle and then make my decision on which one to buy.
Just a note, I believe that the fold down shelf front right is an option on the 30 inch slate griddle
It’s available on the Ace Hardware exclusive 30” model.
Nice , I ordered mine from Home Depot with free delivery and assembly. Will have it Monday can't wait. Please show more grilling on it.
Let's us know what the assembly is like. Did they send a bum? Did he scuff your shit? Etc

Where did u find that ?
What’s a hinged lid? Is that cook safe to cover food for melting cheese or steaming?
Why do they make the top so you can't close it to cook? That makes no sense for heat retention. Is there a griddle that you can close to cook with?
I asked the same question. It makes no sense.
I cook with it closed all the time, no problems.

Get a 36" unless money is an issue. Even with two people, we use all the real estate of a 36". Not only for parties, but for weekly meal prep stuff.

Is the griddle steel the same on the older model? The carbon steel rust resistant? Only found that’s it’s “steel” online
