Can you imagine the "lingering too long in bed" noise being a guardian that is getting louder and louder? Talk about anxiety inducing! Also my cats would KO that thing into a water dish in two seconds flat. Lol
I know from experience, any song you set as your alarm will slowly become grating and irritating the longer you use it. There are songs that I just don't enjoy listening to anymore because I made the mistake of using them for my alarm. Having your sleep disrupted (even if its something you willingly choose to do) is the best way to make you hate the thing associated with it.
I learned pretty quickly back when I was in school that you should NOT set your alarm to a song you like, because any time hearing the song afterwards will trigger your fight-or-flight
Honestly, I'm kind of with you as far as thinking this would cause more of an anxiety response than anything. Actually, my immediate response was, "Great, a product to classically condition me to hate the sounds of my favorite games!" Because let's face it: that's kind of just how alarms work. You start associating the sound with having to drag yourself out of bed against your will, and it starts to cause almost a miniature fight-or-flight response. So it strikes me as strange that Nintendo, a company that is so protective of its IPs, would want to condition people to dread the sounds of their games in that way.
I can see it now: Your Alarmo will be able to connect to your Switch 2, in a similar manner to an Amiibo. But instead of simply giving a bonus as is, you'll need to earn Alarmo points by maintaining a consistent sleep cycle.
nope, from nintendo's faq for the alarmo: "Does Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo work with Nintendo Switch or the successor system in any way? Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo is a standalone product and does not interact with other devices."
11:45 Maybe this is why Nintendo felt confident in releasing an alarm clock? I don't know everything about Japanese culture but maybe waking up there is less of a miserable time of day compared to the west; so having a bit of Nintendo charm to accompany your "rise and shine" just feels better there.
I totally get why you don't like it, but I'm definitely the kind of person this is for! I put my phone alarm on the other side of my room, but I still somehow end up turning it off in my sleep😂
10-year-old me would have wet myself in excitement over this. I was oddly into clocks at that age along with Nintendo. The perfect storm for childhood me.
I will write in the history books that Arlo predicted a Nintendo device that detects your motion to show a clock with Nintendo characters playing on it
Oh! One thing that would probably work really well with this concept is splatoon's main theme "jam/practice sessions". Extended mixes that slowly ramp up as you play longer/progress more. I think things like that might be able to sidestep a lot of the anxiety for some people, starting with like a lead, adding some bass, and getting more and more Jammin as you wake up. Songs that work like that would be perfect, honestly.
Good idea, but Instead of music, I wonder if at least for the Mario and Zelda theme if there could be voice acting. Idk I think it’d be cute to have characters like Mario or Zelda greet you in the morning as your alarm. Just a nice little “gooda morning” or “time to get up sleepyhead” before then getting more concerned calls to wake up until you sit up. Then when you sit up they congratulate you and wish a good day. Idk that just sounds lovely. It’s like my parents waking me up when I forgot to back when I was a younger kid ig.
@@staticaleel5068 exactly. + Gentle voice from someone is a lot harder to despise or induce anxiety in someone, compared to a static sound effect/the literal sound of gunshots

Goes to show that despite how evil corporate Nintendo is, at least it doesn’t bleed into their products for the most part. The executive side of Nintendo deserves all the criticism in the world but the creative side of the company seems pretty chill
In Nintendo's defense, every lawsuit they've brought has resulted in people pretty much having to take a step back and say something like "well, _legally_ it makes sense, it doesn't feel good but they kinda have to..." The only exception I can think of, where you just go "c'mon, guys, this is just predatory", is the Palworld debacle, where Nintendo got sore about being shown up on one of their stagnant franchises and swung the lawyer bat.
@@SimuLordif you think that’s what Nintendo did for palworld then u need to educate yourself that’s not how it works at all Palworld clearly broke the law and Nintendo is going after something specific

The restructuring of the traditional Pokémon format by having the third legendary as the main focus not to mention being the first Pokémon games ever to do DLC and the regional evolutions Also the various QoL stuff even having dynamax and gigantamax and you would not have SV without the wild area all of these new ideas and things for the franchise Are these not ambitious I mean all these things have changed the franchise in substantial ways Every generation offers something ambitious is replacing gyms with trials not ambitious? Or making the galar league a tournament like the anime instead of a traditional elite four is that not ambitious Sure none of them have ever been this super drastic But to say it’s “not innovating” is a bit disingenuous Has the steps in previous games been a bit smaller I mean sure But baby steps and even medium steps is still progression Why do we count this and not those Shouldn’t it all count? Some of these things maybe temporary but they are still creative and ambitious and drastically change the course of the franchise so they count Calling it “stagnant” is disingenuous
I agree with you. Sounds like torture to me. I used to think sprinkling video game sounds into my life would be a silly little thing but the association is terrible. For a while I had the metal gear codec ring as my ringtone and my phones timer noise and even years later I haven’t disassociated it fully. I replayed MGS1 about a year ago and every time I got a call i legitimately reached for my phone to silence the alarm or answer my phone. Don’t care if they shove metroid, mother, fire emblem, or any of my other favorite Nintendo games into it. If I get woken up by a missle expansion inquisition or pk starstorm Nintendo’ll be dead to me from that point onward Now, if they *really* wanted to make a product that improves sleep quality via the world of Nintendo- make a little screen on my nightstand and every time it sees me get into or out of bed have it display a (silent) good morning/goodnight message featuring Nintendo characters. My quality of life would improve tenfold I think if Mr Saturn wished me well every night. Hire me Nintendo
Give me three weeks with this thing and I'd be waking up like I'm hiding from the killer in a horror movie. Don't move, don't breathe, don't make a sound.
I like the idea of an alarm clock that stops when you actually get out of bed. I'm in a bad habit of sleeping LONGER than I'd intended to just because I get in a bad loop of snoozing an alarm every 20 minutes and I never just break out of it and wake up naturally. If I don't use an alarm I could wake up at 9AM, but because I'm using an alarm suddenly I'm getting in an unhealthy loop for an extra 2 hours til I'm waking up closer to noon. But yeah I'm pretty careful about what music I set as an alarm because if I'm not careful some normal song I like triggers a brief rush of adrenalin just because it was my alarm for a while, that's the biggest worry. On one hand the Nintendo branding is what makes this so interesting and they've clearly put a lot of time and money into making it so it's likely to be a high quality product. But that very Nintendo branding could be what makes me not want to use it.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt weirded out by this I thought even the pikmin music playing when you’re going to sleep was cool, but waking up is just mmmeeehhhg
Legend has it the Nintendo Clock was actually the first product to begin development when Nintendo was founded in 1889, but the hanafuda cards made it out the door first and it was put on the backburner. The rest is history.

I can see it now: Your Alarmo will be able to connect to your Switch 2, in a similar manner to an Amiibo. But instead of simply giving a bonus as is, you'll need to earn Alarmo points by maintaining a consistent sleep cycle.
That's very brilliant, but maybe too brilliant
Don’t give them ideas!
nope, from nintendo's faq for the alarmo:
"Does Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo work with Nintendo Switch or the successor system in any way?
Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo is a standalone product and does not interact with other devices."
I am glad you took time for yourself! No matter what is revealed during that time period that is good to do that for yourself
11:45 Maybe this is why Nintendo felt confident in releasing an alarm clock? I don't know everything about Japanese culture but maybe waking up there is less of a miserable time of day compared to the west; so having a bit of Nintendo charm to accompany your "rise and shine" just feels better there.
Of course, my wife won't leave me after my Nintendo alarm clock goes off at 4 am. for the fifth consecutive day.
I totally get why you don't like it, but I'm definitely the kind of person this is for! I put my phone alarm on the other side of my room, but I still somehow end up turning it off in my sleep😂
I used to use a site that plays animal crossing music that matches the current time- definitely made for someone like me haha
Same 😂! I just bought one hoping it gets me to stop wasting 30 min laying in bed in the morning and running late
@@kirbybie That's so cool! I'm extremely excited for when they add the Animal Crossing theme to Alarmo!
@@corywashington9580 If it improves my morning routine at all, it's worth it for me! The motion sensor technology is my main draw to it!
@@kirbybieoooh what site was this do u remember?
10-year-old me would have wet myself in excitement over this. I was oddly into clocks at that age along with Nintendo. The perfect storm for childhood me.
I will write in the history books that Arlo predicted a Nintendo device that detects your motion to show a clock with Nintendo characters playing on it
AYYY!! (ALL I WANT IS TO WAKE UP TO STRINGERS, FLYFISH AND HORRORBOROS!!!!)
Damn, waking up to horrorboros has to be one of the scariest experiences in life
Oh my gosh, waking up to the flyfish sound would be wonderful 🤣
I love the smell of ink and splattered flyfish in the morning.
I didn't even click on the video because I thought Alarmo was an app on the eShop. I didn't expect it to be an actual physical clock.
I originally thought it was a random content creator making a joke initially. Then I saw Nintendo published the video
I normally set 12 alarms on my phone, 15 minutes apart, each set to go off 5 times (1 minute apart), each with a different ringtone and announcing the time.
Waking up is hard...
I did pretty much the same exact thing, but the alarms are all voice recordings of myself screaming "GET UP IDIOT"
It only works about 5 percent of the time...
Monday: the evil Nintendo corporation destroyed another emulator and are taking people to court.
Tuesday: Alarmo! It's so cute. We love you Nintendo.
Goes to show that despite how evil corporate Nintendo is, at least it doesn’t bleed into their products for the most part. The executive side of Nintendo deserves all the criticism in the world but the creative side of the company seems pretty chill
In Nintendo's defense, every lawsuit they've brought has resulted in people pretty much having to take a step back and say something like "well, _legally_ it makes sense, it doesn't feel good but they kinda have to..."
The only exception I can think of, where you just go "c'mon, guys, this is just predatory", is the Palworld debacle, where Nintendo got sore about being shown up on one of their stagnant franchises and swung the lawyer bat.
Oh God... EmpLemon was right.
@@SimuLordif you think that’s what Nintendo did for palworld then u need to educate yourself that’s not how it works at all
Palworld clearly broke the law and Nintendo is going after something specific
@@SimuLord Pokémon has always been innovating and changing things up so I wouldn’t say predictable
Predictability isn’t the samething as tradition
They have always experimented with new concepts and mechanics
Like breeding, natures, abilities, following pokemon, overworld encounters, physical special split, mega evolution,Zmoves, gigantamax/dynamax amie/refresh/camping, even motion controls from let’s go do these features not count as evolving/progressing are these things not ambitious?
The restructuring of the traditional Pokémon format by having the third legendary as the main focus not to mention being the first Pokémon games ever to do DLC and the regional evolutions
Also the various QoL stuff even having dynamax and gigantamax and you would not have SV without the wild area all of these new ideas and things for the franchise
Are these not ambitious
I mean all these things have changed the franchise in substantial ways
Every generation offers something ambitious is replacing gyms with trials not ambitious? Or making the galar league a tournament like the anime instead of a traditional elite four is that not ambitious
Sure none of them have ever been this super drastic
But to say it’s “not innovating” is a bit disingenuous
Has the steps in previous games been a bit smaller I mean sure
But baby steps and even medium steps is still progression
Why do we count this and not those
Shouldn’t it all count?
Some of these things maybe temporary but they are still creative and ambitious and drastically change the course of the franchise so they count
Calling it “stagnant” is disingenuous
This is unironically one of the best things I've ever brought, hands down.
If I get woken up by a missle expansion inquisition or pk starstorm Nintendo’ll be dead to me from that point onward
Now, if they *really* wanted to make a product that improves sleep quality via the world of Nintendo- make a little screen on my nightstand and every time it sees me get into or out of bed have it display a (silent) good morning/goodnight message featuring Nintendo characters. My quality of life would improve tenfold I think if Mr Saturn wished me well every night. Hire me Nintendo
literally make this a bedtime product instead of a morning product and i'd be 10x more into it
Give me three weeks with this thing and I'd be waking up like I'm hiding from the killer in a horror movie. Don't move, don't breathe, don't make a sound.
Got laid off recently. Feeling down. Thanks for the content you post. May sound odd but hearing your voice feels like chatting with a friend.
Best of luck to you 🐥
I pray you got a plan B or any skillful trade and will bounce back to something better
13:15 I actually loved that video! It's genuinely one of my favorite videos you made.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE… ANXIETY THREAT LEVEL MIDNIGHT
Splatoon shots goin of like its freaking nam
It's a clock. For £90. If it spammed we with that annoying coin noise at 6am, I would launch it at the wall!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt weirded out by this
I thought even the pikmin music playing when you’re going to sleep was cool, but waking up is just mmmeeehhhg
Legend has it the Nintendo Clock was actually the first product to begin development when Nintendo was founded in 1889, but the hanafuda cards made it out the door first and it was put on the backburner. The rest is history.
Arlo please PLEASE take days off. Take care os yourself. Don't burn out. It doesn't matter if you are late for the news or whatever. Take. Care. Of. Yourself.
You are more important.
Best part about this video is hearing how much you enjoyed your day off. You go dude.
I find it hilarious that there’s gonna be the nintendo free update cycle on a bloody alarm clock
So far Nintendo have apps and gadgets for when to sleep, when to wake up, when to brush your teeth, how much to exercise, how much you weigh, how far to walk. Just waiting for Mario Teaches Hydration, Breathe Of The Wild and Pokemon Poop.
WarioWare: Fiscal Frenzy. Every mini game is designed to teach you (and Wario) how to pay taxes
Hell maybe they release a dating sim
Arlo, I connect with you on a spiritual level. I agree with you 100% on this. I tried listening to a song for a week to get up to in collage. I can't listen to that song now.
The fact it has unique hardware that give the software cool functionality, then it's limited to 5 presets and you can't make custom ones without modding it.
No because they're going to give free updates.... because they can't even include all of the features for an alarm clock on launch 😭
This is a case of “super happy it exists, probably not going to get it”.
I’m mainly just happy because the idea is hilarious.
Just imagine if a Direct were announced via Alarmo notification. They would become objects of worship.
I'm with you on this one Arlo. This thing would just make me feel little shots of anxiety anytime I heard certain Nintendo sounds and music.
Congratulations your morning has now been copyright claimed! 😃
i mean i'm genuinely excited to get it. I think it'll be amazing. After all people need to remember Nintendo was always a toy company first and this just shows at heart they still are and I'm all for it.
Nintendo Alarmo: So Louie can watch you sleep! ☺
Your Switch 2 concept was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thing. And that was only strengthened by the motion sensing stuff.
The guardian sound would make me always wake up on time.
I also thought of your switch 2 prediction as I was watching the trailer! And, as another commenter said, don’t feel so much pressure to always keep up with news constantly here. It’s important to step back when it gets too much, especially since this is moreso the chill channel. Your mind and body are much more important than “pleasing an audience.”
Tbh, i thought this was satire when i saw the notification on my phone about this
I will say, that day off you described at the end sounded absolutely lovely.
Throughout this video I was thinking "huh this is pretty interesting I might wanna try it out", until you suddenly dropped the 100$ price tag
Yo same
"Just playing the games aren't enough? We gotta eat sleep and breathe Nintendo?"
Me with my Sonic, Zelda, or Animal Crossing mug to bring me extra joy with my morning coffee...
Arlo, it's time to jump up superstar
I have plenty of trouble waking up, but I agree I don't want to be stressed out by my favorite Nintendo games at such an irritable point of my day.
8:10 yup! there are songs i set as alarms that were cheery and meant to get me to be excited for the day. Now when they pop up on my playlist, i get anxiety and immediately skip it
yeah I stopped using songs I liked for alarms for that reason
Really feeling that sentiment of not being saturated in the media you enjoy. I don't even like t-shirts with brands on them.
If it doesn't target you like a guardian for sleeping in, I'm not buying it
Take care of yourself Arlo, we are happy to wait for content if it means you’re not burning yourself out.
We got Nintendo Alarmo before Silksong
I remember choosing some Linkin Park song as my phone alarm when I was 14, and I have not listened to that song since.
I wanna see mods for this.
Add Metroid Fusion music and the Ridley SCREAM.
Or even Portal radio music.
Those online subscriptions have culminated into this magnum opus of engineering.
This announcement gave me so much joy I literally could not stop laughing after I watched the announcement video.
It’s just the most random thing.
Thank you Arlo! I was thinking the exact same thing. I was getting annoyed listening to the Mario coins just watching the trailer. That annoyance will be 100x worse first thing in the morning. If Nintendo want me to grow to hate the sound of a Mario coin, this is the best way to do it
You didn't mention it (surprisingly), but it's interesting to see all the top Nintendo franchises there, Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Ring Fit Adventure (for the health) and also Pikmin. I guess we see their priorities.
The whole thing is funny to me and the way you described it made me laugh harder than I laughed all day. Too much joke and meme potential here.
Nintendo has gone "woke" 😆
okay, good one XD
its wild how this product is nintendo's first openly gay character. Very progressive!
I’m really excited about the idea of a Nintendo clock, so thanks for taking the day off so it could get announced, Arlo!
The way I wake up in the morning, is as soon as my alarms goes off - I turn it off within 1 second and go straight to the shower.
Sorry Nintendo this one is not for me 🤣
As soon as I saw this announcement I was excited to see what you’d say as it felt similar to your predictions of the Switch 2.
I hope your vacation was good Arlo.
The moment I saw Alarmo my first thought "OH MY GOSH THAT WAS ARLOS IDEA-"
As someone who loved Arlo's switch 2 prediction video and watched it many times… dude why did he get so much hate for it :(
Because people are stupid
Never feel bad about taking the time off that you need!
anybody who buys this is bouta get clockwork oranged by silly pikmin sounds
Fucking lmao
“It’s a hundred dollars” - well that woke me up better than the alarm clock would have
