How to Make LARP Wrap Pants

  • Wrap pants are one of my favorite LARP projects to make. They are the best LARP pants, especially for your NPC kits. They are light, flowy, have a pretty universal aesthetic, and one size fits many. I’m also going to teach you how to do one of the strongest seams you can use: the flat felled seam. It’s often used in making pavilions and reinforcing parts of denim pants. It’s a seam that binds the raw edges and reinforces the material then it’s pulled in different directions which would otherwise cause your garment to tear.
    What you’ll need:
    3-4 yards of material or two curtain panels. One queen or king-size bedsheet would work for this as well. Whatever material you are using, it should be wide enough to wrap all the way around your waist with about twelve inches of overlap.
    Sewing supplies: Thread, Scissors, Sewing machine or needle, Iron

    Felling your seams is also the more historical method. It is also so handy when working with fabrics that are difficult or shouldn't be ironed without special equipment(like velvet,) if you are doing it by hand. The process of keeping everything held flat as you stitch does it for you.

    Wrap pants are fantastic. Have had a couple of different sets for nearly 20 years. Great for cast characters who can just throw them on over shorts or sweats.

    Thank you! I was especially looking for THIS type of pants for my priestess LARP character, because she's a character who needs to be comfortable in heat. As she's my chilling due to disability issues character.

    No lie, I might just make a few pairs of these to incorporate into my working from home wardrobe. I'm a tie from the back first wearer, but only because I've had some less than optimal fabric choices wiggle their way loose of the knots I tied. I'd rather notice and catch the front than have my back side get cold, but tying from the front first does seem to look cooler.

    This might be my first sewing project. The pants I got on Amazon aren't really cutting it.
    Also, I don't know anything about sewing machines, but that vintage machine looks incredible on camera! Love it 😀
    Great video! Thanks for sharing!

      I'm excited for you to learn and try out this project! Pants and shorts are really the best first project. Mine was Tweety Bird boxer shorts. The vintage machine was a $20 purchase at a thrift store in Sacramento many years ago. One day, I want to take off the motor and attach the machine to an old treadle.

    So for the larger size, you mention when cutting the “U” that you did 4 inches from the fold, but it looked almost like 8-10? Would you suggest for plus size people to do the 8in or 4in?

    • @HeyMackenzieJ
      @HeyMackenzieJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you're correct and I explained that part incorrectly for the double-fold version. Go with 8.

    You don't want a new machine. You want a older one.

    What are LARP and NPC?

    • @nicolanewington1798
      @nicolanewington1798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to google it. Live Action Role Playing. Google says NPC is non-player character which means a character in a video game which the player cannot control. I dunno, I don't do either of these things!!

    • @illiengalene2285
      @illiengalene2285 ปีที่แล้ว

      LARP is basically a video game or Dungeons and Dragons, but live, in costume for a certain amount of time.
      NPCs in LARP are players given a script, usually a place to sleep, eat and hygiene for free or a reduced cost, to fill out stories.
      An evil emperor is pretty lame without people in his empire.
      The German short for a middle thing of those is GSC, directed player characters, who have usually amassed enough power and influence to have something to say and get instructions on some things to not obliterate the plot for low level characters.

    So 3-4 yards would be the same as two panels? Or do I need more than that if I want it to be the same thickness as two panels?

    • @HeyMackenzieJ
      @HeyMackenzieJ  ปีที่แล้ว

      I want to say yes...depends on if it's 48 "or 60" wide fabric. One panel of a curtain is 48"
