All nice but Pistol as far as handles go maybe zeke. Skip and Shammgod were wizards. People tell me 20 years later i had the best handles they ever seen. Shammgod and Skip were gods when it came to handles.
Here’s something to keep in mind, the rules for ballhandling have changed over the years. That’s why so many old people cry about carrying and traveling today. Back when Cousy was playing the hand can only be on the top third of the ball or something like that. So to me, when you consider Maravich and the rules he played in, he has to be on the Mount Rushmore.
Kenny Anderson is BY FAR the best ball handler to EVER do it! What separates Kenny from all of the candidates that I have seen listed so far is that Kenny didn't just have one move....he had a multitude and variety of several moves, and they were all done by instinct! Yes, A.I. had the killer crossover (which he picked up from a player in D.C. by the way), but that was it. Yes, Shammgod had that European pull-back dribble....but that was it. And yes, Rafer had that little skip to my lou dribble...BUT THAT WAS IT! But Kenny? Man...he had a behind the back dribble, a spin move that was second to none, a deadly crossover so quick that was easy to miss, and a hesitation dribble that literally made players fall (GTech vs. Michigan State 90-91 NCAA Tournament). And all of Kenny Anderson's moves were instinctual. In other words, he wasn't dribbling down the court thinking about using a particular move, they just happened b/c it was necessitated by the action on the court. Wanna know what I mean? Check out his game tape against Notre Dame in his freshman season...or even that Final 4 game against UNLV when Moses Scurry was dumb enough to try take the ball from him on the inbound play.
Kenny is in my top 5. Along with Tim Hardaway, Kevin Johnson, AI and Pete Maravich. These people just don't know.... and not as an insult, you gotta be as old as me to remember Kenny Anderson. I'm 47 and still remember his Nets days... just a beast!
Yall really overdoing it. I can name 10 players wit better handles than Kenny Anderson. I'm going on 40 so miss me with that young shit. I'd take Baron Davis handles and Steve Francis handles over Kenny Anderson handles.
@elbowgang9715 You stating opinions, I gave you facts. Ironically enough being a DC native I used to see Steve Francis on a regular in high school, and his handle kind of reminded me of Kenny Anderson's...a little bit. Franchise had crazy bounce, but to insinuate that his handle was better than Kenny's is preposterous.
***** wasn't saying that he was a bad player....just saying that he turns the ball way more often..just like westbrook, who's the best player today not named lebron..but leads the league in TO..so to reiterate, Iverson is out of the "best handles in NBA history"
It’s crazy how those would be my top 3 picks. I got to see all those guys live and in person. Nothing like it. Def the best era of basketball. Even chibbs was something special.
A.I. has the MOST ankle breakers so he is the best ball handler...if your making your opponent fall on his ASS then how are you not the best? look it up on youtube and watch the top 100 A.I. moves and become a believer.
I think Iverson had the best CROSSOVER, I think shammgod has the best HANDLE, im a believer theyre 2 diff things.. an example I think jcrawford has a better cross than cp3 but has better handle, hes not losing that ball, in traffic im iffy about crawford
ankle breaker and handles are different. Ive dropped couple players before but that does not signify that I have more handle over people who had never dropped players. I can agree skip because he showed the world at his best in terms of handles both legally, illegally, show off moves, etc. What iverson was known for was his crossovers and quickness. Skip is known for actually doing variety moves, more than just crossovers.
of that generation for me it's #1 White Chocolate, #2 Skip (even though he toned it down once he got to the NBA) then everyone else. honourable mentions: Steve Francis, Jamal Tinsley, AI.
Funny how AI has been completely overlooked. Just a reminder he brought hip hop to basketball not only 'cause of his unique self-centered style, but also the way he played and handled the ball. Seriously...

Jwill at his peak was the most exciting player to see other than vince carter, like u had to see them play because u never knew what they'd do next! And the crazy part is they both came into the league at the same time. Mannn i miss the 90's
I was thinking Jason Williams even before they mentioned his name. I was a big Kings fan at the time that he played for them so I got to see him working. "Skip To My Lou" Rafer Alston is another really good choice. And I agree with both Kenny Smith and Chris Webber. Rafer would've made MILLIONS in endorsement deals had he brought his street ball handles to the NBA, the major problem with that is a lot of the really good moves are considered traveling in the NBA.
A lot of cats commenting are oblivious to the difference of ball handling and a crossover. A.I. had one of the best crossovers the nba ever seen, the ball handlers mentioned have more skills making the look like its going one way and having it go somewhere else. To me J Will is one of the best def top 2 imo, being a Lakers fan I saw a lot of king games the way that man moves the ball is crazy damn near impossible to stop.
Kyrie because they just mentioned how j will and shamgod were good at one move. Even AI was just the best at the crossover. But having the best handle means being able to do every single move and combination almost perfectly. Who’s that? Kyrie Irving
Ginobili learned it from Dodrigo or something like that .. A guy who did it before Shammgod & called it El Latigo (Spanish) or The Whip .. Multiple European players did it before Shammgod
+KMH I think Ginobili takes it from Dejan Bodiroga. You can ask Carmelo Anthony about Bodiroga doing that move. Bodiroga took it from Danko Cveticanin maybe, a croatian player from the 80's; and I think that Cveticanin took it from Dragan Kikanovic, a serbian basketball legend from the 70's...
Justin Allen If you see the whole segment they build on AI. And to the man they say, that he didn't have a great handle he was just fast. That being said, when he had it going? Bubbachuck was unguardable! .
BoogieDaWizard it's all good who the fuck are these players if they can't simple give props to AI fuck did the rest wit no rings do.. But i hear you my Man!
to be fair... the question posed was best ball handler they had ever seen, and the guys talked about players they played with. So the Pistol Pete suggestion might just be because he was before their time. All players mentioned were unbelievable though. respect.
Bunch of people weren't mentioned. But these are coming from the guys that actually play with them/against. Had to have been a different experience. Love how skip gets talked about the most.
I agree with C Webb. All the dudes Kenny named were never able to translate that flash to the pros but J Will was a hooper who was able to do it and be successful
Agree. But, according to Dr J, who witnessed it in practice, he said Pete did those moves and drill at top speed few could approach. Calvin Murphy was similar too, a bit of a mini- Pistol in the same era.
NINJA TRON 3000 no no no no no... i was referring to their argument of best ball handler ever, not the best PG ever. He will be lucky to get top 25, but in ball handling, he could be the greatest
juan sagredo if you see somebody use something that works, why wouldnt you try to learn those skills? what an ignorant comment. Plus, Kyrie is a better player than them as well so having handles makes a difference
J will , A Iverson, pearl Washington , J kidd, abdul-rauf, rod Strickland, mark Jackson, skip Alston. IsaiahThomas .shamgod is up there too but he never played in the league but since I'm from the Bronx , as a kid I seen him played at cedar park which is next to river park towers....
I like everybody they named,i gotta give a nod to AI though based on the fact he could change direction, and handle it so fluidly going full speed IN TRAFFIC at the speed he was going. That speed being quick as shit lol.
Best crossover, yes. Handles? Borderline top 10. A.I perfected the crossover and revolutionalised the point guard position. He expanded the offensive capabilities of a point guard in that he can get anywhere on the court whenever he wanted to and do it in style. BUT! If we're talking ball handling, you need to refer to skip, shammgod and I'm gonna say it but even Magic Johnson. These guys not only gave style to the craft but they made it functional for the triple threat of passing, dribbling and shooting combined. Allen Iverson is worthy as one of the best "Handlers" of all time, but not in that top 3.
Steph got handles. He ain't just a one trick pony. Would have liked if they showed love to the old school. Pistol Pete had handles. Tim Hardaway. Zeke used to beat double teams off the dribble. J Will was nice with the rock.
Nick Van Exel was more known for his scoring ability, but he had some sick handles too, that allowed him to be a proficient scorer...
Jason Williams for sure. Not only did he handle the ball well but he also used that mobility to create openings for the entire team.
J Will was ridiculous! Best handles I've ever seen!

+Carlos You are absolutely correct about everything from Kicanovic to Cveticanin to Bodiroga.
+Kameezus Christ but european players dont have style.-
+Carlos did u also watch that video...
The move that ginobill
don't forget the sick elbow pass jwill did in the allstar game.. dude is a magician
Allen Iverson:
The only player ever to cross up MJ.
How is that not mentioned?????
i've seen highlights of all the moves this panel describes in this segment, and all the video clip plays shown are the wrong ones lmao.
Man Allen number one wit that handle.. No one has yet shown AI isn't!
Yes AI had the coldest handles
Justin Allen If you see the whole segment they build on AI. And to the man they say, that he didn't have a great handle he was just fast. That being said, when he had it going? Bubbachuck was unguardable!
.
BoogieDaWizard it's all good who the fuck are these players if they can't simple give props to AI fuck did the rest wit no rings do.. But i hear you my Man!
AI had handles it wasn't just speed it was magical watching him break the defender down
What do you consider the best thing about his handle?
LOL I love CWebb on these things.
to be fair... the question posed was best ball handler they had ever seen, and the guys talked about players they played with. So the Pistol Pete suggestion might just be because he was before their time. All players mentioned were unbelievable though. respect.
#1 Kenny Anderson #2 Allen Iverson #3 Stephon Marbury #4 Jim Jackson #5 Grant Hill & tied at #5 Steve Smith my TOP 5 🏀 HANDLERS
That's a terrible list
a.i. and j. Will
Jason Williams dude.... god damn
shamgod handles was crazy
haha gary payton was like... nope, can't get tht haha. j will is still going crazy even today
That move he did on gp was a carry but other than that he was dope
Where is J Will playing these days? him, VC and KB were by far the most fun guys to watch live back in the day
I know he never made it in the NBA, but Ed Cota had CRAZY handles at UNC.
I remember Cota. I am a Heels fan and was hoping he would make it to the pros....but didn't.
Ed Cota was nasty at UNC
Bunch of people weren't mentioned. But these are coming from the guys that actually play with them/against. Had to have been a different experience. Love how skip gets talked about the most.
Too many to name. Kenny Anderson, Tim Hardaway, AI, Isiah Thomas, God Shaamgod, Earl Munroe. I'm going with AI though.
Pete Maravich, definitely.
Jason Williams
I agree with C Webb. All the dudes Kenny named were never able to translate that flash to the pros but J Will was a hooper who was able to do it and be successful
Lol Kenny Anderson has better career numbers than J will
Ball handling and shooting will get better as time goes on.
Pete Maravich had the best handles ever, his moves aren't the fastest but they were probably the flashiest and the most innovative.
Agree. But, according to Dr J, who witnessed it in practice, he said Pete did those moves and drill at top speed few could approach. Calvin Murphy was similar too, a bit of a mini- Pistol in the same era.
Maravich had size at 6'6"
when its all said and done, Kyrie very well might be the best when his career is over. but its really hard to say anyone besides AI
NINJA TRON 3000
"ya right" what?
NINJA TRON 3000
no no no no no... i was referring to their argument of best ball handler ever, not the best PG ever. He will be lucky to get top 25, but in ball handling, he could be the greatest
NINJA TRON 3000
its all good, im just glad i dont sound like the idiot who would ever think Kyrie could be the greatest PG ever lmao
skip and shamgod best hanldes ever.- kyrie just a fake copycat.-
juan sagredo
if you see somebody use something that works, why wouldnt you try to learn those skills? what an ignorant comment. Plus, Kyrie is a better player than them as well so having handles makes a difference
I agree, Shammgod is up there
SuperVillian SVWorld FACTS!!
Chris Gas and he destroyed hall of fame ankles
Chris Gas they said point guard not a ball hogging shooting guard.
Undo Wednesday , What hall of fame ankles did he destroy other than players past their prime?
AI was more quick rather than
fantastic handle wise
You aren't serious...... right???
which episode is this one?
Funny how people on here want to discredit Kenny. Even though he's been around seen more great guards that any of you.
How in the hell do none of these guys not even mention 'Pistol' Pete Maravich - BY FAR, the best handles ever!
theyre racist and dont appreciate or watch old bball tbh
Allen Iverson anybody?
+IanLEAU too bad he was a shooting guarf
Collin Lee He was a combo guard to be exact. He revolutionised the point guard position by making them a scoring threat.
Chsdfdsf6 3284739875-043q Allen iverson had the nastiest cross the league had seen. He had handles and deserves to be in this convo.
Bailey Davis Tim hardaways crossover was better
Steph got handles. He ain't just a one trick pony. Would have liked if they showed love to the old school. Pistol Pete had handles. Tim Hardaway. Zeke used to beat double teams off the dribble. J Will was nice with the rock.
i think the bone collector or the professor or A.O. also have mad ball handling skill
