    • @HandOfThemis
      @HandOfThemis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +62

      Yeah. This almost feels like a jab at folks like us who preferred the old style of writing; the authors are saying, it would seem to me thus far at least, that the changes to the scp universe were necessary. Plus this conveniently allows for scps to be changed or destroyed without much narrative issue.

    • @thatsscarybruh
      @thatsscarybruh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +74

      @@HandOfThemis I completely agree. As I said before, stuff like this is cool and all but it feels like an entirely different universe. As creative as the stories are, they feel like they're missing the very essence of what made the SCP universe so intriguing to begin with. I can read any science fiction or fantasy novel and get the same experience as this new universe but man, those earlier entries, they were something special.

    • @HandOfThemis
      @HandOfThemis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      @@thatsscarybruh The ruthlessness of The Foundation is one of the many things that was discarded sadly. It made the entire universe much more interesting and gritty. We were willing to sacrifice thousands to stop one aberration from breaking the norm. We don't get that much any more. It's all cleaned up and makes sure not to hurt people's feelings.
      Not my cup of tea very often.

    • @LAN2D
      @LAN2D 3 ปีที่แล้ว +94

      The reason there are less old school SCPs nowadays is because people don't enjoy writing them as much anymore. There are only so many murder monsters or creepy objects you can write before it gets boring, and the modern authorbase prefers writing stories with characters that have depth, and narratives that actually mean something.
      I get wanting the old style of SCP back, but saying it's 'just not SCP' is kinda wrong. The stories on the wiki are distinctly unique, even these longer ones.

Been feeling like creativity in the west has been dying lately because of Hollywood just rehashing stuff, and underlining agendas that either distract from or ruin stories. That's... kind of the point of Hollywood and all, so you should never ever be basing your hopes on anything like that. Literature has been thriving all this time in actual writing communities and places that cater to such dynamics, like Creators that use Patreon or Subreddits/Discords/Forums.
      TLDR: Creativity in the west is great and has always been great, it just seems like you expect it from places that aren't designed for it. Hollywood is the worst place to be looking for that in. Stick to Patreon, Reddit and writing forums/discords.

I respect that they are helping to stop 6500, but they could stand to be a little less hypocritical about it. I point to the time they sealed a dragon away untill it lost almost all its power and killed it for trying to fly for the first time in over 100 years, and potentially the last time it could have been able to take off had it lived.
    We see you jailors as those that would seal away and depower anything you don't understand, that would kill or make non-anomalous the source of all magic if you could find it, just so you wouldn't have to "contain thaumaturgic scp's".

    18:00 It’s beginning to sound like the way to defeat this process of entropy, is to force it to exist within a structure… by doing so, it becomes possible to interact with it, and defeat it. Otherwise, it remains beyond reach.
    EDIT: I was rather wrong 🤣 it now seems like it’s more of a pataphysical thing, where SCP’s gradually fade from public interest over time, and SCP’s that are fully contained fade faster because nothing is happening with them. So in this path they’re revived by being used in narratives, reawakening people’s interest in them by making them relevant again, and thus holding back SCP-6500’s endless march.

      Because it was already done 6500 already terminated 6500 anomalies and nerfed countless more. Anomalies are still dangerous, but living with them is now a possibility and the only possibility that isn't genocide. The world threatening stuff is gone, some stuff that was difficult to contain or impossible to destroy became easy to neutralize or contain or been terminated by 6500, etc. That's the plot of 6500 and no return timeline - continuing the foundation as it was would just be unnecessary cruelty/genocide.

      Good point! There are some SCPs that must not be destroyed. Another example is the Library of Alexandria.
