I just want to thank Trevor, Ken and Steve for turning a difficult parting into such a joyful experience. Getting to meet and reminisce with Robert's old band members Phil, Steve and Don was amazing. Seeing the level of interest in the instruments, the band and Robert's story is humbling....who knew?? Thanks to each and every one of you who took time watch the video and comment. I'm looking forward to hearing about who will play these treasures next. Fingers crossed that Trevor pulls that off too. Kristi
I just listened to some of their songs and they are really good. I’m only 40 but absolutely love the 60’s surf rock scene and just started learning guitar. I just bought a Femder Jazzmaster and will be trying to learn some P-Nut butter songs next. Awesome story and beautiful instruments
Fantastic film. Got a little choked up, hearing Bob’s former bandmates, speak so highly of his character. Makes you stop and think, what will your peers say, after you’re gone? Why am incredible experience for Kristi, to celebrate Bob in this way.
You guys are on a completely different level. Rather than just focusing on the instruments, you are putting a spotlight on the people and the history behind them. Wish you guys all the best. You're doing such beautiful work and it is a joy to watch.
I am very happy to see P-Nut Butter and Bob James receive some (more) recognition……..a full 50+ years after they made their records. My name is Dwayne Witten and I am the current owner of Mascot Records in Phoenix, AZ. For those who enjoy a little music history, here is a very brief history of Mascot Records. The label was founded in 1961 by Jack Curtis. Jack was the entertainment writer for the local newspapers. He was also the owner of two of the most popular teen clubs in AZ - first was Stage 7 and then The VIP Club. Jack Curtis was arguably one of the most important people for teens in Arizona in the 60s. He hosted an American Bandstand type show on local TV, he was a songwriter, he promoted countless concerts featuring many of the top national acts of the 60s (The Byrds, Sonny & Cher, The Beach Boys, The Beau Brummels, The Righteous Bros., The Yardbirds, etc.), he had his teen clubs and he founded Mascot Records. To local musicians, he was an important guy. If he hired you for his club, you were something. If he recorded you on his label, you would get airplay. He was instrumental in the careers of numerous local and national musicians. Two of his first house bands were The Mike Condello Combo and Ritchie Hart & The Heartbeats. Mike Condello is an AZ legend - the musical genius behind the legendary Wallace & Ladmo show. Ritchie Hart later started using his real name - Charles Gearheart - and went on to form the Goose Creek Symphony. As mentioned in the video, P-Nut Butter and The Spiders were two house bands a little later. Jack recorded The Spiders in 1965 and Mascot Records owns the first 3 songs ever recorded by that band; which is the exact lineup that went on to become Alice Cooper. P-Nut Butter recorded 11 songs for Mascot and 3 songs for another label. Mascot also was the home to teen idols Jim Boyd and Frank Fafara, and also to the great R&B singer, Roosevelt Nettles, plus many other bands and singers. The label went dormant in 1973. In 2011, I acquired the label from Jack and reactivated it by releasing several CDs and working with a local company that licenses music for movies, TV shows and commercials. Since 2013, we have been honored to have Mascot songs and artists featured prominently in many movies and series, including the Oscar-winning “Green Book” and various series such as Homeland and Bate’s Motel. It is amazing and gratifying to see this 50+ year old music find a new audience. There are 2 CDs available with P-Nut Butter songs. The first is “Battle of the Bands - P-Nut Butter vs. The Vibratos” and the second is “The Mascot Records / Jack Curtis Story” (which also has 3 Spiders tracks). Both CDs are available on Amazon.com. Thank you to Bob James, Phil, Steve, Don and Earl for the great P-Nut Butter music and thanks to Emerald City Guitars for this great video spotlighting one of the most popular bands that Arizona had in the 60s.
Damnit I’m crying at my desk now with this playing in the background. Amazing story. Reminds me a f when I inherited my Grandpas 59 LG2. Seeing pics of him playing with his old Navy buddy. My favorite memories are of Grandpa and Dad playing guitar and teaching me G C D on the Gibson because it was small enough for me.
That was so uplifting. Thank you to everyone who participated in this. Peanut Butter rocks! If I hit the lottery I’ll be in touch about that Candy Apple Red Strat 🤞🎸😎
Nice ..I’m 67..and have some nice guitars but the nicest thing was seeing guys my age little older probably getting together..and seeing the pics of their youth…precious moments in time…life is just a breath….👍👍❤️..love the videos of going to the houses meeting the folks..65 CAR strat is sweet….I think they had gold or silver metallic paint as the undercoat to get that …lovely candy apple red effect…👍what a heartwarming video lovely lady…god bless❤️❤️
So neat y’all took the time and effort to make this a special experience for his wife. Really coming to enjoy the unique and authentic feel you guys bring to your videos. It’s all about the story telling man. Now, I’m off to ask my old lady if I can get a ‘65 Strat up in Seattle. 😎
I don't think I'll ever look at a guitar again without wondering about it's story. Thank you for showing us the very personal journey of the guitars and their owner. Robert was a truly talented and remarkable man. And you're right, Kristi is cool as Hell.
Darn you, Trevor and the ECG production team, for peeling all the onions during this video. Bless Kristi and her late husband, Bob. Her love, admiration and pride for him shines through. Great video, as always, and a big thanks to the guys in P-Nut Butter. Cool tune!
By far that has to be the best story to go with these wonderful instruments. The history that comes with them is priceless. I hope who ever purchases them does enjoy them and the great legacy & journey that goes with them . Thanks again. Stay safe and well and keep Rocking. Signed John Gregory / Zepbass from Munster Indiana.
This made my week (its Sunday) !! DC 5 and The Beau Brummels, Great memories from the '60s. Great P-Nut Butter was there :) The CAR with the now mint green PG on the Strat. Amazing.
it's amazing where music can take you. hey mister bass man, can you help us explore space? let me get my soldering iron, i will be right back. great story, great channel.
This is a beautiful story about not only the instruments you guys picked up but the love and history those instruments had all these years. This is great!
Love that film. What a happy ending to that particular chapter in the story of those instruments. Great to hear the stories about romance, friendships, band exploits and even space exploration!
I, too, worry about the center latch. This was the best one yet, guys! The future of guitar-centric content is here. I love knowing the stories behind my vintage stuff, of which I know painfully little. So this is phenomenal.
This is incredible. I’ve stopped into EC Guitars a couple of times and had no idea of the depth of their outreach into the community. This is good work they’re doing.
You guys are putting out some of the best “guitar” videos out there. Hands down. Warm, personal, inspiring, educational and extremely well edited. Thank you and bravo!
god! I love this video, this is the best video i 2021 for me. i almost cry at the end. they all tell the story by heart! thanks you made this to share with us. thank you
@@emeraldcityguitars when I saw those photos... that was me...my reality in 1966...playing in bands and buying fender equipment ....I'm still going today..thanks and cheers!!!!!
When I first heard of American Pickers, this is what I thought the show was going to be. Finding the true American Pickers and their gear. Thanks for sharing these stories, you should start a new show. The True American Pickers and their stories.
Wow, nice job on this one! So cool to see all the old pictures and promo material - just think about how many bands like this there were across the country, there’s got to be more time capsules hidden away in closets! It was amazing that you got the surviving band members back together, so thoughtful. Those grill covers are the best! Thanks, keep up the good work 👍
Your video's are becoming a watching experience with backstory, beautiful landscapes, and great guitars! Definitely a "cut above" anyone else in the vintage guitar market.
Just an FYI - I haven't gotten a notification and haven't seen your new videos in my YT feed in over a month. I'll look into it but I thought I'd give you guys a heads up. That said, thanks for sharing another wonderful story. We need a lot more of this right now. Way to go!
This was really cool to see, heartwarming and nice to see. I grew up hearing P-Nut Butter on Phoenix radio (and a little later, Phil Motta was a famous top 40 DJ on local radio). Check out more of their records - they were good!
This gives an intimate and personal perspective of the buisness of vintage acquisition And trev really is a respectful young man. At least from what i see. Well done trevor you know your fender lore thats for sure. And you play a mean tele too
Great story Trevor! I don't remember having a vintage guitar video bringing a tear to my eye but this one certainly did. You and Big Boone and the rest of the crew at ECG put an amazing amount of heart into what you do. Thanks!

Cool. I want them to play my albums live.
What a touching story. The instruments are incredible, but to have a wife that loves and honors you like this should be the goal ❤
Fantastic film. Got a little choked up, hearing Bob’s former bandmates, speak so highly of his character. Makes you stop and think, what will your peers say, after you’re gone? Why am incredible experience for Kristi, to celebrate Bob in this way.
What a beautiful video. All these vintage instruments have histories…most never are told…thanks for giving one a voice
Appreciate it!
You guys are on a completely different level. Rather than just focusing on the instruments, you are putting a spotlight on the people and the history behind them. Wish you guys all the best. You're doing such beautiful work and it is a joy to watch.
