Alan is very humble and decent guy. And incredible player. A soul of Dire Straits for sure.

The transition from Making Movies to Love Over Gold was like night and day. I've always harboured a suspicion that part of the reason was the musical contribution of Alan Clark. I've always thought it a shame that this has gone unrecognised.

Now that Tina is dead, bringing out the original version of the Straits would be the best tribute anyone could pay to this great queen who gave us so much. Thumbs up if you feel the same way!!

I actually think Beck’s solo on “Private Dancer” is one of the most lyrical and beautiful I’ve ever heard. I know Mark slagged it off, but I love it. I put it up there with any of Jeff’s best.

Hola Alan.

As a huge Dire Straits fan, I came here because I ofcourse knew that they wrote Private Dancer for Tina Turner. Rest in peace, Tina! Rock on!

Wish Dire Straits would have kept the song but just brought in a female vocalist. Or, if Mark would have recorded the guitar on Tina’s version. What could have been.

    • @Pabzmusic

I believe Mark played the guitar on Tina´s version. He has played the guitar and written songs for at least 3 of her albums. They admire each other very much.

@@Punttipate62 I am very surprised that he was not on Tina´s version. He has written, produced and played in several of her albums. It does not make sense that he did not play that guitar solo on a song he gave to Tina. I think Jeff Beck sounded great but I am not a guitarist.

Nope, I've never heard it, carefully guarded in the vaults if it even still exists. Interestingly, Private Dancer has a similar melody and timing in the changes/lyrics as the song Love Over Gold. Compare the chorus'...

The melodic line of Private Dancer chorus sounds quite like Love over Gold itself. I'm glad to be used listeng to the latter, rather than the former on that album...

The drum pattern on the verses are also like the intro of Telegraph Road. Not sure it would have worked to have had both on the album.

I thought he was geordie? Not another 'geordie artist' ashamed of his natural accent, Alan, you are in great company, ie, Bryan ferry, sting, Robson green, Jimmy nail(sometimes geordie, sometimes not) tim healy is still using his natural accent, good on him! You can still be articulate and have geordie dialect, yes, some can't I know😂, but c'mon lads, don't forget where your'e from🤔😊

Jeff Beck's solo sounds quite weak to me. I would be interessed to listen to the DS version one day.
