I met Alan through my work today which has nothing to do with music. We were chatting today briefley then he very casually mentioned he is a keybord player and that he used to play with Dire Straits. I have just done some research on Alan and I am totally amazed at his achievments. Alan is a very humble man and totally played down his status is within the music industry.
Alan, if you are reading this and wondering who has written this comment. I am the guy with the curly ponytail who composes orchestral music just for fun. It was an utter pleasure meeting and chatting with you today (9/6/22) Alan. It is not every day I get to meet a legend.
    All the best.
    Andy

If there's any kind of story behind "Alchemy" (best live rock album ever) , we'd love to hear it, unless of course, it's in the memoirs.

Such a wonderful player.....technique, feel, skill and talent in abundance......part of that wonderful band pieced together to give us so many epic songs and performances during the 80's.....music that stands the test of time, when will we see their like again?

Thank you for this Alan. By a strange coincidence I heard your version on Classic FM before its release and was inspired to perform this song at my Dad’s memorial service the following weekend, transcribing this piano arrangement and adding guitar and vocal. All I needed was a volume pedal which I bought from a young man by the name of Simon from Leytonstone who had recently been playing with you, another strange coincidence!
It turned out to be a fitting tribute to the man who introduced me to the 1985 album on long drives to my grandparents. Thanks again.

Thank you Alan for providing these musical grabs about each of these arrangements. Can you please tell me what key you used to record this piece? I know I have said this on the other posts but this album, to my mind, is long overdue, I think you have provided fans with a sense of closure on what an absolute superb period in modern musical history. Thanks Alan...

Too bad Knopfler drifted into all that hillbilly and blues Americana purism later on. Dire Straits had something when they got into 'serious' music along with their more casual or fun pop numbers. "On Every Street" was the last true Dire Straits song.

    • @dannyhammett5221

I agree it was a shame he went all hillbilly at least we have the true dire straits we can listen to a 👍

100% correct and accurate on all fronts.
No one 100 years from now will either remember nor care about any of Mark Knopfler's solo work, they will only hear and remember his material with Dire Straits.

@@tonyk501 "What It Is", "Do America", "Sands of Nevada", and "Why Aye Man" should have been with Illsley and Co. Knopfler has been kind of a dink towards the men who backed him up and played everything he wanted--especially Illsley.
