playing his roles in songs is amazingly fun and hard, but at the same time full of soul and groove. thank you for my childhood music and inspiration to be a keyboard player.

Alan Clark helped dire straits reach news heights in their music along with the Captain of the Dire Straits ship of course,MK.

Loving the first album by Dire Straits as my all time favorite album, I was a bit skeptic when they added keyboards, but Alan Clark is superb. Telegraph Road is such a masterpiece, and Alan is a huge part of that song's sound & feel. I have always felt that Guy Fletcher was a keyboard player, but Alan was a pianist. I have recently come across some of David Knopfler's material, and he is every bit as good as Mark - actually more versatile, and has a Christian overtone, which I thoroughly appreciate. I'd love to see a Knopfler Brothers album with Alan on piano/keyboards - the combined musicianship and lyric capabilities would be fantastic!

The virtuosic, back and forth improvisation between Mark Knopfler and Alan Clark in particular, on the long Dire Straits instrumental outros, was really something. Mark Knopfler on is own is still technically brilliant, and the man is underrated as simply a poet, but they lost something special there. Looking forward to Clark's solo album this May, to finally hear what this legendary supportive musician sounds like on his own.

That was only on three DS songs, really.

The piano part at the end of Telegraph Road makes that! When that part starts up, the piano is what I can't wait for! The first time I heard it, it made think of Morse code. Just brilliant.
Oh, and the piano of "The Man's Too Strong" is the best part of that song to me. The live versions have the piano turned up...I never could figure out why the piano was kind of hidden in the mix.

It's a pity Mark K thought DS live gigs were gigs and he never sang the melody or played the guitar like he should. Can't listen to DS live stuff because of it.
