    "The art of teaching is to ensure learning takes place". This is something I was told many years ago whilst training as a driving instructor. Jono Buchanan has just managed to impart all the information into my brain, that I have been searching years for, over the course of 2hrs and 22 minutes. Absolutely incredible teacher and an absolute master of his craft.

    That was bloody brilliant, he's a really good teacher; he knows how to get a point across in a way that can be understood by putting things into context and rhetorically answers questions that people will have (which ultimately helps to make it clear). Also he speaks elloquently with clarity. Thanks!

    I am an amateur musician, playing since one year with audio production (pandemic made my bands stop gigging). I think these two vids convinced me to study seriously the matter.
    I am in the real life an electronic engineer working in a chemical company, I am sure I will take a course when I will retire. Why? Because I love all of that.

    This masterclass was most helpful. Many thanks! I have been recording with Cakewalk Sonar since they introduced their product in1988 (Yes. I’m old!). I recently switched from PC to Mac. I was very concerned with the time involved reference using a completely new program and system. To my surprise, it has not been as cumbersome a learning curve as I first anticipated. Logic Pro is a fantastic DAW and with free updates you can’t beat the price. I’m hooked!

    Exceptionally useful couple of videos. Straight to the point and no time wasted. Demystifies and clarifies the basics of Logic as well as emphasising the fact that to get a decent result you do not need a huge number of extra plug-ins. Having good musicians, a good computer, solid interface and superb microphone helps of course! Many thanks, Jono.

      Hi. Can anybody confirm please: the vox were recorded down WITH the EQ and compression...and then that file remained on the same channel with those same plugins still turned on? So, double EQ & comp?

    • @timbeaton5045
      @timbeaton5045 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pretty certain that the EQ and Comp in the "input channel" are NOT baked into the file. It is only applied to the track as it is played out of the track to the stereo output, that we are monitoring. In the same way, the guitar "pedals" and "Amps" are working in the same way, as demonstrated by Jono B when he bypassed all the FX in the guitar channel. What you heard was just the untreated original guitar, WITHOUT the FX. So no, no double processing.

    • @thekeysman6760
      @thekeysman6760 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah okay. Cool, thank you. I wouldn't have expected it, but it just looked that way to me, knowing Logic.

    • @timbeaton5045
      @timbeaton5045 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, it's not immediately obvious. But when you think of the example of the guitar signal recording, you see how it works. It seems this is one of the most common misconceptions about Logic. I hope Jono doesn't mind me mentioning another TH-cam channel, but I would like to suggest you check out dancetech's channel. He has done MANY incredibly detailed videos on Logic, and is particularly good at explains exactly how Logic functions work.Especially see this playlist:-
      th-cam.com/video/r5C9iXOvgPM/w-d-xo.html
      where he goes through the entire audio chain.
      And if there is almost anything you need to know about Logic, there is a good chance you will find it on his channel. Highly recommended! (PS I'm not affiliated, just a very satisfied viewer, who owes much of what I know about Logic from his channel.

    Sneaky Trick - If the singer doesn't get that much, or any, louder after you suggest they pipe up a bit; turn their own voice down in their cue mix.
    It can help overcome foldback intimidation.
    I've had success with it many times.
    Be subtle though; don't give the game away. 😉

    • @jas_bataille
      @jas_bataille 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sneaky trick reversed : if someone wants to hear the track louder cuz they're deaf, have a fader not assigned to anything and just pull it straight up. Works every time. The human brain is so sensitive to hearing beliefs, and that's why mastering engineer get randomized A/B programmed.

    Waiting for part 3. I have learned so much from these 2 videos. I thought that I knew how to use logic but this video has shown me many usable assets. As I was using FL Studio since 2004, last year when I bought a mac book, my production took a major blow and I have been switching from ableton & logic pro. I was trying to find a new home in the OS X Daw family. I think that Logic is exactly the same as FL Studio, I just have to spend time learning the ins and outs and transition slowly. Thank you for opening my eyes to the powerful possibilities of Logic Pro....Can't wait for PART 3

    So informative and thoroughly prepared - not unlike a Ted Talk. Kudos and thanks to all involved. Now to put all we've learned (in the 2 videos) to practice. I'll see you in 6 months...

    Excellent introduction to a lot of stuff, not just Logic Pro X. However, it is just an overview / introduction and there is masses of depth to Logic Pro, recording, producing and mastering - don't stop studying until you get the sound you want.

    Thank you very much for sharing this superb master class. It will take me some time to process, absorb and apply this teaching but it puts professional knowledge into the hands of every musician if they so choose. Brilliant!
