  • How Gibson Guitars Cheated. The prove of Gibson Quality Control Issues even with their new lineup of the second half of 2019. We'll check Les Paul Standard 50s and 60s and check how Gibson tricked Captain Lee Anderton in his review. Why Gibson QC still sucks. In the end we'll drive to Long & McQuade store to return this guitar. To Attend a free trial class of this Audio Production Course send email to: mixingcourse@andrewzeleno.com
    In this video we'll talk about the hype about the new Gibson Guitars, all these positive reviews and statements Gibson made about their improvements.
    IMPORTANT before You put a comment:
    1) Don't tell me to send it back or those issues are minor. Incorrectly screwed stop tail piece, black holes in milky colored binding, and places where frets go over binding and other places where binding go over frets.
    2) Actually I kept Standard 60s with awfully unmatched top because I can't return it. It sounds 3 times better than my two PRSs and pretty comparable to my LP Custom Shop R7 Refin. So the tone is all what really matters for me. And this 60s one is unusually amazing. Also, I recently tried SG Standard 61 and it sucked big time. One of the worst sounding SG I've ever tried. But again each guitar is different. I have found SG Standard 2016 which was exceptionally amazing sounding. So my point is there are amazing Gibson guitars and awful ones. Sometimes you can't resist if you find the amazing one. But overall behavior of Gibson with their QC is like spit in our faces. You don't pay 3700$ for this kind of product.

      I feel your pain brother, my issue is with the quality of woods that they use leading to guitars with dead spots in the grain and making no attempt to match the grain, leaving tool marks in the fretboard, dull router bits used on the cavities leading to freyed edges. I've noticed that out of every batch of guitars that a shop gets perhaps 2 or 3 guitars are what you would expect in regards to quality and finish. So if you want a good one ask the shop when they are getting their next shipment and get there on the day to cherry pick. Don't accept faults, send them back!

      You can say what you want about PRS and there are many haters out there but quality control with their guitars is a non-issue. All this back and forth with Gibson and the lack of quality and whether they are better or not.....who cares? Their guitars are expensive and you do not get what you pay for. PRS guitars are outstanding, expensive, and worrh every dime because you have an instrument you can keep forever. Now that they have the pickups dialed in on all models why would anybody buy anything else? The Fender Custom Shop does great work also but $4,000 for a strat? No way. Another thing about PRS is they make everything, all the parts, strings, etc or they have stuff made to their exact specs. They are concerned about everything being perfect!

    Gibson are now a predatory litigation company that formerly made guitars designed to be hung on the walls of stockbrokers homes. Their parent company (KKR) made their mark in this field, and no, I'm not joking. They are seriously committed to predatory litigation, that's the reason KKR PURCHASED Gibson in the first place. Guitar manufacturer is a incidental expense as far as they're concerned. @

The epiphone has better sounding pickups the tone was better rounded wasn’t as brittle the neck felt solid. Yeah, I have a Music Man Majesty Monarchy 6. It was $3400 or so after tax. There was not a flaw. One problem was that the A strings Piezo was quiet. I emailed Ernie Ball, and offered to fix it. I said no and asked how to do it myself. They told me how and it was done. A loose wire on the preamp. The only other problem I had was the first fret around the e to d range was buzzy. But I fixed it real quick. Music Man is the best boutique brand. Better than Fender, PRS, Duesenberg, Friedman and of course Gibson.

    • @dashripkin
      @dashripkin 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree with that assessment; there are numerous examples of expensive exotic cars that have notorious "quirks" that collectors actually enjoy. For example, the Ferarri F40 doesn't have door handles on the interior. To open the door from the inside, you have to pull on a wire.

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dashripkin Except a guitar is not a car, and having a crooked bride, shit binding job, scratches on finish, etc., aren't quirks they're plain defects. But fwiw, I'd be pissed too if I spend 200k on a ferrari and when it rained water poured down in the car because of shit windows. Of if it's body self-destructed because of bad design around the wheels.

    • @yammmit
      @yammmit 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Palmer Nothing that’s in the final product of a car isn’t by design. That’s there for minimalism and to appear like it’s saving weight, it’s not a flaw. Scratches or unfinished surfaces in a car, which is more like this scenario, would not be acceptable for a brand new car.

While watching this video bummed me out over the possibility that the guitar will not be perfect, it definitely taught me on what kind of details to look for when I inspect it. So I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. I was in their store about two weeks ago and I played a Les Paul special and I fell in love with it. I had never played P90s before. Important to remember Andertons is making videos to sell guitars. He owns a guitar store! Its not reviews, its a showcase. They are fully aware of what they are doing but many of the viewers overlook the intent of his content. He wont stock/re-up inventory and make a video of a guitar to than shit on it. He will not be served to be 100 % honest of the flaws/consistency. If he or chapman mentions anything negative they glance over it as much as possible. He wants you to buy the guitars he shows from Andertons TV because he invested money in inventory for those guitars and he is often directly partnered with the major brands like Gibson as a dealer.

    I've been working on guitars for over 10 years and playing for over 30 years. This is nothing new to Gibson these quality problems will never go away.
    If you really have to get a Gibson you should only buy one in person from a brick-and-mortar shop so that you are able to personally scrutinize and go over every detail. Otherwise you're going to be paying a lot of money for potential big disappointment. If their guitars were affordably-priced people likely would not even care about these sort of issues.
    The bulk of Gibson's profits go into marketing and paying top-dollar executives, not quality assurance.

    IMPORTANT before You put a comment:
    Don't tell me to send it back or those issues are minor. I kept Standard 60s with awfully unmatched top. But I can't return it. You don't pay 3700$ for a guitar with different binding in different places which is cut to holes in many places; and it has angled tailpiece which no other guitar has.

    When I go to the music store, I usually walk right past any Gibsons..... Can't really afford one. Well last week I had to get some fretwork done. I figured what the hell. May as well check them out. Uhhhhh...... Just really wasn't all that impressed. Not with what they cost. I didn't see all the imperfections like you show on this video, just nothing that really popped out. Then I saw one that really caught my eye. The finish was immaculate, the set up was great. Just touching the strings on the neck, I loved the action. .... then I looked up at the headstock and saw it was a Dillion. And it was about 100 - 200? bucks cheaper than the lowest price Gibson..... I don't know a thing about those guitars, but they looked just as good as the four digit price tag gibsons and flat out blew away the no frills models.
    I think Gibson suffers from the same ills as other American manufacturers. Stagnant wages and high demands from workers for the low pay.... No real incentive for the employee to go above and beyond anymore. So guess what happens to quality overall? If things don't improve, then it won't just be gibsons with crappy quality, Just about anything else made here will go the same way if it's not already. We just don't get paid enough to do any better. Too bad when Trump gave all those corporations a tax break, they blew it on buy back options and executive bonuses instead of investing in their workforce. Yeah. Gibson's just the tip of that nasty iceberg.

    Everyone saying they changed all came out with the same videos, same day, can you say affiliate. Nothing wrong with that except when you bs just to ensure you have a #1 video in the search and don't honestly review it. I love my last years faded model though, it was the cheapest

      I actually upload a video on Gibson on the first day like you said. But what I did differently I said "Let's check them out to find out if they improved QC". I'm in minority :)
      I have two Custom Shop Gibsons, SG Standard and now Standard 60s. They are all amazing guitars. But I returned like 10 other Gibsons which were awful.

      @@AndrewZeleno1 yeah it's good to be honest and not guide people into a pitfall. It's not like Gibson's are completely bad. I love mine but come to think of it I had to call and get a scratch and dent discount because my pick guard was scratched. Outside that though I love the thing. It was cheaper than my American fender strat and sounds and feels great, and is my new favorite. I love your videos man, great work

    Yeah I watched a video with a positive review of Les Paul Standard 50’s P90 it has dings on the upper neck leading to the Nut, the opposite is perfectly smooth. The fret board in spots have so much dust build up it’s almost gunk. Trying to decide whether to exchange it or not. I’ll go through the process at least 3 times until I go for a les Paul special because the price is great. Sound is incredible but I’m not sure if the ding will cause some kind of problem down the line. Thanks for the video it was like therapy

    Gibson need to completely gut their operation and start again. Regardless of what they now say, the bad old practices of the past are ingrained in the workforce. They need completely new ethics.

    Sorry man, I go with Epiphones and upgrade them with a Plek setup, Graph Tech ratio locking tuners, Schiller roller bridge and compensated nut. Under $1,000 and plays like a dream I love them,.... I don’t care about the snob appeal of the Gibson name, because I’m not trying to impress anyone with that nonsense.

      The QC on the 50's was terrible, but the finish on the 60's is like they just glued two different guitars together either on purpose or accidentally. That is so glaring and wrong. That guitar should've been cut up at the factory or sold as B-stock for a few hundred bucks.

  • @ralvknights
    @ralvknights 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I understood correctly: you found several estetic scratches on the guitar's finish.
    When you play any guitar scratches are bound to occur. To me the important issues are playability, does it stay in tune, the sound and inspiration I perceive with any instrument. I do not see scratches as a big issue in quality control, unless I want a guitar to hang it up on a wall looking without any playing wounds at all. Each to its own.

      Thanks Rich. I'm not only donating. I have fed them when I was living in Ukraine. There are horrible things going on with animals. I even have a plan to go back to shoot a documentary about that and I will have some fight over there with some people because police don't do anything over there.

      Andrew Zeleno That’s excellent Andrew , you are a brave man. Apart from being in a gigging band , I help out my local wildlife sanctuary. I’ve seen the progress animals have made from care and attention and wonderful rehabilitation from cruelty and neglect. I look forward to seeing your documentary when you go back to Ukraine. I know it will be upsetting , but people need to stop putting their faces in the sand and realise that as humans we have one simple task, look after everything living first....Everything else is a life bonus.

    I bought a Gibson les Paul r9 and paid 4000GBP for it, I love the guitar but even at that level there were minor flaws I didn't expect to see. A few issues like with the binding going up the neck you can feel slightly how it's not a perfect fit into the routed channel on the neck where it sits it's only slight but there all the same almost like the binding should be a fraction thicker. The dye bleeds into the binding Also taking away that neat line of the bindings edge. Like I say minor things. But in all honesty it doesnt bother me because this thing plays like a dream its perfectly set up and it feels and sounds amazing. I can live with a few minors.

      Custom Shop is different story. But To clarify: Each guitar is different. Even the same model. I just found the amazing one. It's that Standard 60s with awfully unmatched top. But I can't return it. It sounds 3 times better than my two PRSs and pretty comparable to my LP Custom Shop R7 Refin. I recently tried SG Standard 61 and it sucked big time. One of the worst sounding SG I've ever tried. But again each guitar is different. I have found SG Standard 2016 which was exceptionally amazing sounding.

    Get an Epiphone, change the electronics and save yourself a few thousand dollars! My used Epi KP Standard Pro was $379 and is better shape. Seymour Duncan Seth Lover pickups!
