Oyster Tempo Cooler - Best Iceless Metal Cooler for Camping?
In this Oyster Tempo cooler review, I test out this innovative vacuum-insulated camping cooler that promises to keep contents cold without regular ice. This aluminum cooler uses patented vacuum insulation technology for rapid cooling and impressive ice retention. I put the Oyster Tempo to the test during some 110+ degree Texas days. It held temperatures below 40°F for 24 hours with just the included ice packs. Then I tried it with no ice packs and it still kept food and drinks chilled for hours. The Tempo is sleek and compact at just 20" x 12" x 13" and 12 lbs. The 25-quart capacity holds up to 36 cans with no ice needed. Dual side latches provide easy access, and the removable lid enables simple cleaning.
This lightweight metal cooler is perfect for van life, camping, beach days, picnics, outdoor adventures, and everyday use. If you're looking for the best cooler for keeping things chilled in 2023 without the hassle of ice, the Oyster Tempo is an innovative option worth considering. It combines smart Norwegian design with iceless performance that reinvents traditional coolers.

Are you getting an error of some kind?
Oyster was truly smart in getting you to do a review. You make it look amazing. But for $500 without the accessories, I can't se too many people buying this thing.
I love how much you appreciate the precision engineering and beauty of this product. Me too. That first dent is gonna hurt.😵💫
I do like stuff like this. It’s so sleek and soothing touch and handle. I’m quite happy with it. We both love it!
@@Stonyboot I think a rubber insert in the handle or over the handle would be a great addition. It would mean you don’t have to grab a hot handle and would keep the handle from scratching the cooler body.
That’s a great point. The cooler itself sent the orange strap are really good for a first generation, I think the handle could use some updating. But, it still works exactly as it should.
@@Stonyboot in case Oyster is looking at the comments here: the strap is useless to me and probably for many women. I’m 5’5”, 120 pounds. Straps like that are useless to . My shoulders aren’t wide enough to keep that strap secure. Love the handle. But a padded sleeve over the part that you grab to carry would help a lot, especially if you’ve really loaded up the cooler with some weight.
@joanmcerlean7158 great feed back. Thank you. I’ve used the strap across my body, on one shoulder it would be awkward to keep on.
That is one awesome cooler! That makes me want to look at them for a possible purchase. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for watching! It’s a really nice piece of equipment. I’m still excited to use it :)
I to have a fascination with vacuum insulated beverage containers since my first coozie almost 20 years ago! Been waiting and searching for this cooler ever since, putting it on my X-mas list!
That’s great to hear. I thought I was the only vacuum insulation nerd. It just works better than than other types of insulation.
I’m still loving my cooler.
great review scoot 👌👍
thanks for sharing 💯
love you both
Thanks for checking it out and leaving a comment!
👍🏻you do an awesome job reviewing. Like a pro!
Thank you. I’m learning as I go!
Use my iceless cooler all the time! Love them
Do you have an Oyster or different brand?
It looks like NASA designed it. A rubberized covering on the handle would make it cooler to the touch after sitting in the hot sun and prevent marking up the sidewalls. Other than that, it looks and sounds pretty cool. (No pun intended lol)
Great review!
Thanks for watching. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cooler. Not your typical plastic type.
I love how they call an ice pack a "thermal battery". Yes, it's one of "those" kind of companies. 🙄
If you want to keep things really cold, I have a cooler pack that freezes (changes phase) at 5F. It does take more than a day in the freezer to freeze all the way through. Works real well in my Walmart (Yeti style) cooler.
Thanks for the tips! I’ve heard that Oyster will be coming out with a phase change freeze pack too. I froze these at -5 but the phase change materials try to regulate it at between 32-40f.
I’ll check Walmart for the packs you’re talking about.
What is the brand name on these phase change ice packs?
@@hyppievanman Probably engel
Very thorough review. A bit pricey, but the way it’s built should last a lifetime.
Thanks, and I agree. It’s a great cooler.
VIP’s (vacuum insulated panels) in a roto-molded cooler would be ideal, that thing looks fragile. Otherwise i use a one gallon vacuum insulated jug (price effective) or smaller ones to put cans in or hot burritos! Then use an ORCA Cooler. The GoSun portable fridge pairs well with 266wh battery and 100w solar panel for glamping. This cooler you are reviewing needs ice packs 😂 no ice 🤣
Are you in Humid Texas or Dry Texas? I could imagine putting a damp towel over top and extending the coolness a little bit, but only if it's dry.
I don't know why it reminds me of my canteen when I was younger. The idea with the canteen was that you could fill it up with water from a creek and the water on the outside of the canteen would provide a little bit of cooling as it evaporated. I could see a cloth cover that could help with shading and maybe a little cooling. It's not as practical for cars as much, though.
you could use that canvas bag for your groceries and not have to worry about the plastic bags.I really like this cooler and might ask Santa for one.
We already use canvas shopping bags, but often forget to bring them. But yeah, the bag is really nice. It’s going to be our beach bag for towels and such.
Great video I just refuse to spend 500 bucks on a cooler no ice or otherwise. Glad you got one for free though.
I understand completely. There is a huge market for coolers in the $200-$1000 range and it’s kind cool and crazy at the same time. Yeti has become huge with plastic and foam. It’s all about marketing. The Oyster Tempo is far more sophisticated and I hope it gets its moment in the spotlight. Such a cool toy!
I wish I had one since I live in Florida and I live in my car I don't have air conditioning and it gets very hot
Impressive cooler. But YIKES. A bit pricey. Glad u for one to review. A great use case for your situation.
Why did you open the cooler before the groceries? Would have done better closed
do you know the weight with the ice packs and full of cans ???
Cooler alone is 12lbs. With the ice packs it’s 15.8 lbs. A standard 12-oz beer/soda can weighs 0.78 pounds. Just multiply to get your total.
Would you and Sasha consider making video reacting to the new Cirus 920? I believe truck camper magazine did a review of it recently and it’s very different.
Surprised they didn't give you a discount code to go along with the review. Nice cooler if you've got the money to spend.
I know what ya mean. I’ll have to ask if they have any discount codes now. It’s a new launch, so maybe they don’t want to discount it yet.
Holaaa saludos desde maturin, Venezuela, porque están en un rv? Donde esta el TRUCK CAMPER? 🤔
"Thermal Battery; also known as an ice pack...." I swear I hate companies that treat the consumer like a dummy with their malarky jargon.
Nice looking but I can't justify paying $500 for a cooler, I have been using a cooler with ice packs for the beach that I bought a zillion years ago and it works just fine. However, I see a market for things like organ transportation as you mentioned.
I understand completely, it’s definitely not for everyone. It’s still pretty cool in the vacuum. Insulation works very well. I’m happy to have it in my collection. I’ve been frustrated with soft sided coolers and plastic coolers for most of my life. I wanted a chance to test this thing out. And yeah, I can see many uses for organ transport, cryogenics, etc. just plain old cool to me.
Useless data without comparison with rotomolded coolers. My Yeti Roadie 24 costs 3 times less. For these additional 350eur I can buy 350kg of ice. Considering I'm using my cooler 2 times in a month at the summer and maybe ones at spring and autumn.. well. I usually put a big Yeti Ice at the bottom and then 2kg of fresh ice to fill the space between food and drinks. The price difference gives me 14 years! Ok maybe I decide to take cooler with me at winter, or puting into it 3 kg of ice someday. With all these exceptions, the price difference will last me over 10years.
Your New England accent really came out this video 😂😂😂
That’s funny to hear. What stands out the most?
Mostly when you say bottom. Comes out bawwtum, to my Midwestern ear
@deadinmydreams thanks. Of course, it’s normal to me 😂
Rtic,
Overbuilt
Not overpriced.
Oyster,
Overbuilt
And overpriced x5!!
On sale for $500ish saves money not buying ice
20 dollar Walmart cooler with some ice packs and it'll keep it cold all day and next day... 500?? They saw you coming.....
$500.00?!!
So what's the deal with you two? Are you no longer traveling and set up a home base? Looks like you're now into consumer reports type of channel. Not sure if I'll continue following as you two were on the road when I started to follow. At $500 bucks a cooler I'm not running out to buy one, I'll wait for the China knock off....:)
We are doing whatever comes our way. I’ve made videos explaining it over the last few months. We have travel plans in the future, but after 3.5 years of full time truck camping, a change was needed.
After 9 months, we are itching to get back on the road. But, we have to generate income, make some plans, deal with health issues and just figure life out. Time will tell.
Yikes, true whiny American. Don’t want to pay for anything quality and will wait for a terrible Chinese knockoff. I hope it breaks on day 31 after your Covid land warranty is up 😂
Too expensive! A used refrigerator will cost much less.
Smoking crack if you think normal people will pay 500 bucks for that.
Not really, go look at Yeti and the like. I thought so too until I looked at the market.
@@Stonyboot RTIC is half the cost and Yeti you get a much bigger cooler. I’m an avid overlander if I pay 500 bucks I’m getting a plug in cooler. That thing is to small for 500.
