  • The normal TMS Video Display processor being used in most all ColecoVision Consoles has Component (Y, R-Y, B-Y) video outputs. It relies on the RF Modulator to make sense of that and output a summed aspect of all 3 signals.
Well even though I'd seen a lot of composite video mods for the ColecoVision, and a few RGB and VGA upgrades as well, I hadn't seen one to do S-Video -- which is what I really wanted. So I discovered that the RF Modulator chip (LM1889N) had this ability built-in irrelevant if you wanted the RF output or not. The best part of all is that there was a breakout pin for the Chroma Subcarrier prior to the RF section. That along with the (Y) output of the TMS chip was all that I needed, only requiring some buffering and summing of the two for an independent CVBS output, as well as the Luma and the Chroma signals for S-Video.
