Hi Brent. Jon and I just started kicking around a couple of ideas for alternatives to Midi-Play, nothing concrete, but could be good if it were to see the light of day. Of course you know it would be great if Jon was behind it. Anyway as far as a small MIDI keyboard controller, which really doesn't play a role with this particular application, I just got my Rock Band 3 keyboard the other day and it seems very solid. haven't tested it out yet, but if it works well for MIDI it is a very low cost option in this regard and fairly small to boot.

Interesting stuff. I've never messed with MIDI stuff on the Atari (or anywhere else), but it's apparent that some improvements could be made to the UX.

One if the things I saw with the mist atari 800 core was if you entered a " on a modern keyboard you got anything but a " to get a " you had to match the atari original keyboard and give it a shift 2. Which gave you a ". But alas it gets confused after a while and just gives a 2. not sure why this is. But it is...I wonder if with the 1088xel if this is where text based application will get worked out. For example I used to program alot in action! and would like to again. So that is where you hit the " issue quickly typing any code at all. I have a atari 800xl which has none of these issues but I would like a 1088xel maybe with a VBXE video option for better video on least programs I write.

Green latch LED is not going out when the PBI driver is called (immediately after you press return in response to the request for side 2 of the disk). Only two possible causes: driver never saw D7 of $D1C0 go low in the first place, or D7 went low, caused a BIT $D1C0 to clear the N flag, but a subsequent write of $01 to $D1C0 did not reset the latch.

Hi Michael - is your BASIC card test program posted somewhere? I have an older 512MB Sandisk card that works just fine in the SIDE2 cartridge but isn't recognized at all in the XEL-CF-II. I'd like to see what the card ID's itself as. Thanks!

Is that the most recent 1088XEL firmware you've posted on AtariAge, FJC or a newer build? Just curious. Still waiting on some backordered parts from MacRorie to finish my board but with luck I'll have it in a bootable state in another week or so.

Great. And even better, the screen jitter is caused by the RAMdisk driver banking out the display list. :) Of course AtariWriter completely pre-dates DOS 2.5, so who knew $7xxx was a bad place to put your display data. :)

This is really cool. I hope the tearing will be fixed too. I have quite the same display that I recently bought to feed it through S-Video from my 800XE. Unfortunately, the display cannot cope with that signal, nor with composite output. So if DVI works fine with PAL/50 Hz signal, this would solve my problem.

I guess overscan needs to be accounted for in DVI output, since it's not really possible to adjust things on the display side.

Troubling. I had a quick look at the source for the player but couldn't find the source for Avery's Incognito build. Incognito has no card reset register, but the player appears to work fine on a real Incognito. I'd be surprised if the movie player can reset the XEL-CF at all since it's expecting the reset register (if it attempts to reset at all, which it shouldn't on the Incognito) to be at IDE_BASE+8 (and it's at 0xD1C0 on the XEL-CF).
