Gotta love how much like Lego big trucks are. You get a frame, stick an engine and transmission you like in there (maybe change it later idk) and slap a cab on top. Use it like that until it's not what you need anymore, then make it into something different.
You always have so many different projects going on that would take a regular human enough time to tackle, lol. Thanks for always bringing us along. We learn so much from ya!
Man your sidekick there looks totally different from like a year ago. Obviously lost a ton of weight. Good on him!!! He's probably starting to look like he did back in high school.
Whenever I see that you have posted a video I rub my hands together and get ready for an adventure. In this one, as usual you get right to it. No dithering. Times a wasting, the kids are growing up, let's roll. You add just the right amount of narrative. Keep going young man.
I’m a big fan of your channel over others. You care about equipment, your family, and the environment. Other people would just cut those hydro lines and not care about the leaking oil. I’ll always be here to watch your projects.
we have an FL80 4x4 same year as yours but a 7 speed spicer,3126 cat and 35000 pound winch for pulling out stuck drill rigs!! She"s semi retired now but is a favorite to drive and literally goes anywhere!
Just found your channel, looks like a great project! I run the same truck and love it. I wish mine had an exaust brake, never seen that before on these. That is the good 466E just EGR, very stout engines. Just be ready for electrical problems they all have them. Can't wait to see the rest of the build. I bet your power issue is the connections for your injector driver module or your injector pressure regulator. The female sides of the connectors get worn thin and vibrate around. Check the injector driver relay in the fuse box on the fender. The plug sockets get loose under it and it can cause what your getting. If you need any info on that old girl just ask and I'll try to help. Thanks for sharing with us!
You could use that crane in your new shop ! There is also a small fortune hydraulic lines and fittings on that rig. Now, you can call it the International Frankenliner !
Haven't heard Gopher since I was a kid, until this channel, he used to be one of my favorite Winnie the Pooh characters, because of his underground digs
Oh boy, I'm super excited for this project along the garage one, plenty of things to see and enjoy following your upcoming adventures Jesse, thanks for posting regularely too, that's so appreciated!
Wow, that truck would of cost a fortune to commission and build, being that it was a Hi-rail service truck. Another epic build series in the making Jesse.
The front end of the truck looks pretty good already. I like the grill. This is going to be a treasure to watch. Captain Kleeman is doing a similar type of project and I'm glued to it. Look forward to it!
That crew cab International was a railroad section truck and the hyrail gear was removed prior to being retired, we have similar but larger crew cab tandem section trucks with larger booms or cranes and we have lots of railroad hand and hydraulic powered tools, torch set etc.
I've seen some of these kitted out for camping and they look so cool, can't wait to see how this project turns out. Gonna be a great vehicle for the family, all sorts of adventures ahead.
😂 Right @38:16 I can hear Mom yelling No!!! Ive noticed that in the last video too. Noah seems to be a handful! Wonderful boys with a great dad! Keep doing what you're doing !
I live in the state next door and have worked on my fair share of rusty junk. I do not envy you at all! Just looking at this truck I am not surprised with the sawzall action. It is really the only way to deal with a truck with this level of rust.
Hi Jesse i'm 83yo, my 84th b/day will be May 30. This is the stuff i like to watch having been driving trucks since 1957 when i was 17. That International is a good deal, with a little work it can be transformed into a reliable tractor unit for your lowboy, although i heard Noah saying he liked the FreightLiner, LoL. I will be very interested in this project Jesse. Uncle Bob.
What a time to be alive eh. You can watch and relive years of your youth while sitting in your layZboy. Sure beats that Golden Girls kinda TV garbage of years past. Unless that was your thing. But I'd definitely prefer this real life stuff and learn a bit along the way
I use to be highway superintendent in my town we had many dt466e powered internationals and had good luck . In 09 when we got into the dt570 max force they did have some issues usually with egr cooler and few other not huge issues . Good luck with the build . Cool channel 👍
I was just at MATS and talked to the guys at Bullet Proof Diesel and they have EGR coolers to replace most of the common brands of HD and Light duty motors. They said they've never had a failure yet
Hello Jesse, Man, you always find the great deals. I've been looking for a small 1 ton rollback truck. I bought a subcompact tractor a year and a half years ago. I've been looking for a truck and a 17' - or 18' trailer. Then I said to myself that a rollback tow truck would work for my needs. I don't drive vary far anymore. I just need a way to haul my tractor or skid steer. I live in Michigan, and the prices for any type of truck are so expensive. If I could find a good rollback for under $10,000, That would work, I'd spend at least that much for a good truck and trailer. Love the videos keep up the good work.
The main problem with the maxxforce DTs that I remember in the smaller end was mostly VGT problems. On my 04 I had similar problems where it would run great on way out and dog or derate on the way home usually loaded lighter. We never fully figured it out. I tested fuel pressure at idle and at higher rpms and played with the fuel regulator so I had 65ish psi at idle and 75ish at running rpms and that seemed to give it more power on the way out but not help the derating. The next thing we tried was we had a couple injectors not keeping up so we replaced them and really had no change other than the egt curve across the cylinders leveled out to where it should be on warm up. The only thing I didn't try was monitoring the egt post turbo to see if that was sticking. International charged me few thousand and never actually changed it either.
Regarding the defueling / surging: I work on a fleet of these things. First thing you want to do is clean the prefilter screen prior to the spin-on fuel filter. It’ll probably be caked with grit and rust from the tank. Clean it up, and change the fuel filter before doing anything else. These internationals are bad about the coolant leven sensor going bad, but it doesn’t cause the truck to de-rate. When it fails it will display CHECK COOLANT on the dash, and shut the engine off completely after running for about 30 seconds. Same for low oil pressure.
You’re gonna want to make sure that when you’re cutting your old hydraulic line as close as possible to an old bird nest. That way if it happens to catch fire you stay warm and adds some extra light. Killing to stones with one joint. Mint..
Was just telling my GF about wanting a crew cab 4900 4x4 with a flatbed so I could bring her and the dogs on work trips. Exact truck I want to build! But I don’t have the space for it. Super excited to see you do this!
Westen Champlin's truck Gentry & Sons are almost finished with has actual reclining theater seat in the sleeper. Has 2 doors added with windows for access back there too. Definitely cruisin in comfort
If you didn't know acid will literally dissolve rust to a like new metal Condition. Obviously immersion is better. Then there's the neutralizing requirement after. I've experimented a little and it's no joke, amazing how well it works. Muriatic is a popular one. There’s vids on the process and mixtures. I just bought some EvapoRust as people rave about it, it's expensive though. Reading about it, the PH is almost neutral like water so safer to work with. Gonna experiment a bit more with it. Supposedly Por15 was bought by someone and doesn't have the same formula anymore and it's failing more. Rustoleum is a slightly acidic paint and that's why it works so well on rusty metal etc. Tractor enamel is also supposed to work well.
Jesse if you have a air rivet gun use a straight bit and hit the sides of the hyd fittings and the vibration will loosen up the fittings it makes so easy to unscrew them. I’ve also seen a guy make a bit for his Sawzall and it worked just as well to remove hyd hoses no air lines to carry just a battery for the Sawzall. Enjoy your enthusiasm in repairing and making what you’ve dreamed up.
How I hated those Freightliner Century class trucks I think they were called. I was so happy when I got a Columbia...so much more room inside and you could see over the nose. Major improvement.
