- hello again good people. per some requests, here is my attempt at elliott's new disaster. the grand mal demo version of song will permanently restructure your life, if you haven't heard it. listen at your own risk.
as always, please let me know if you have a better approach, on either the right or left hand parts. i'm just doing my best to figure it out. long live this tricky beautiful stuff.
Wow I saw someone comment asking for this and you just boshed it out! You're actually a legend. I highly doubt you will get haters in the comments. hope you post some similar stuff
big fan of this channel! thank you for all the elliott smith content you post, his style is so difficult to imitate and you do it better than anyone I've seen.
Thanks so much! You make it seem so effortless. I know it's not though.
you're the best! Thank you for doing this. Your elliott smith technique videos have been so helpful. I first watched them a year or so ago and since then I've managed to get much closer to his tone :)) When you demoed this song in that video it blew me away haha, thanks again for sharing!
Only now realizing you use your pointer for stroking the open A and C, already said it before but you’re a legend for this vid, don’t think I could learn this song without it.
happy to help :)
What a great short and sweet lesson, you do the song great justice
Amazing!!🤩
My favorite Elliott Smith song of all-time
same :)
Huge fan of the channel. Love your tutorials and playing. Keep it up!
I somehow never knew about this song, or New Moon, despite being a fan of Elliott for well over a decade lol. Thanks for the tutorial!
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing. I feel like I'm finally starting to wrap my head around this song
I really love the way your voice sounds if you ever wanted could you drop a cover? Please?

I am getting more depressed feeling so inadequate. You are making me tear up. I feel so emotional hearing this
I trust no one on youtube but this seems trustworthy
haha thank you
Ofc this came out a few days after i learned it by ear 🙃🙃 still learned a lot though. Thank you.
Good work!
Terrific tutorial, medallion
Cool guitar and good playing
thanks so much for doing this 👍
I really hope you see this - could you do a tutorial for The Last Hour?? It's so beautiful, but I just can't figure it out by myself :)
i made a video on the right hand a while ago. the left hand after the intro is just simple bar chords. hope this helps: th-cam.com/video/Q7wCGazQgiE/w-d-xo.html
@@brushstrokemedallion thank you so so much!! I didn't know that you already did a tutorial on that one - this made my day! :))
you should do a full cover of the song u have a good voice
Could I do standard with the e tuned to d with capo on third? Thank you for this video it really helped me vision the technique a lot better
def
Besides the rhythm hand, this song is really not very difficult to play. Thanks for the lesson!
Do you have any tips on how to do the rhythm?
@@Bodhiz26 hard to put into words really. But it’s just a constant back and forth between thumb and pointer finger. Very much a signature Elliott style of rhythm. I think the guy who posted this lesson has a video on Elliot’s strumming technique, but I don’t remember if it touches on this particular song or not. My tip would be to keep learning Elliott songs and developing good fluidity with your rhythm hand.
yes!!!!
what exact guage, type and make strings are you using? love em, ive got a fg180 but trying diff strings atm.
i’m sorry i have no idea. probably 11s and whatever is cheapest. trick for me is to change them once a year or so
Do you keep your nails pretty short to make it easier to strike with the fleshy part? The look pretty long from the video, I feel like I can hear a tiny bit of nail but it's super soft. Heaps thinks for this - it sounds great the way you're playing it
Also if you have the chord voicing written down, we'd be forever grateful :)
What kind of guitar is that? That sounds freaking awesome with Elliott's music.
it's a yamaha fg-180.

Is there a way that you can play it in standard or just this way?
