Stickman (Tutorial) - Elliott Smith
มุมมอง 1.4K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
per some requests. note about the word "tutorial": i feel a little silly calling these tutorials as they're more approximations of general vibe than note-for-note transcriptions. as always, the technique itself feels more important to convey than the exact voicings but hopefully these videos will get you some of the way there. thanks for the requests. it's been fun learning how to play them.
You Make It Seem Like Nothing (tutorial) - Elliott Smith
มุมมอง 1.4K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
special request here. this is the best i can get it. there are some mistakes, as always. Dmin7 fingering is 3-1-2-0 starting from the top string, for instance. do as i do, not as i say, etc. okay, thanks for watching and coming along on this truly never-ending journey

New Disaster - Elliott Smith (tutorial)
มุมมอง 8K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
hello again good people. per some requests, here is my attempt at elliott's new disaster. the grand mal demo version of song will permanently restructure your life, if you haven't heard it. listen at your own risk. as always, please let me know if you have a better approach, on either the right or left hand parts. i'm just doing my best to figure it out. long live this tricky beautiful stuff.

featuring leica, maddy, mikey, hunter, and a cockroach which was one of many we reluctantly killed during the Horrible Building-Wide Cockroach Scare of December 2023, from which we are still sort of reeling. shot on panasonic camcorder (december 2023 - january 2024) literally look at us go
Talking to Mary, Elliott Smith - Tutorial (of sorts)
มุมมอง 2.1Kปีที่แล้ว
I apologize to anyone who clicks on these videos thinking they'll learn how to play the song from the ground up. For those interested in the left hand shapes, there are probably great tutorials and tabs for these songs. I've found tabs to be pretty useless for explaining what goes on in the right hand so these videos are an attempt to convey some of what I think is happening. Plus, someone aske...
I Didn't Understand Cover - Elliott Smith

Sorry it's sideways :( Here's me playing a stripped down guitar version of "I Didn't Understand" at an Elliott Smith birthday tribute show from August 2019 at Littlefield in Brooklyn, NY.

WHAT MODEL YAMAHA IS THAT IT IS BEAUTIFUL
it’s a yamaha fg-180 from the late sixties
how do people ever get this good ;-;
Dude’s slowly morphing into Elliott…
Good job
What guitar do you play?
Man, it's almost like I'm watching Elliott figuring out these songs for the first time
how do you people do this........ my hand just won't
whats the song at 2:26?? its so interesting
Wow thank you!!!
please do Riot Coming
It's weird but this is actually kinda cool, you should explore this more.
thank you soo much for this omg i’ve been doing this song by ear for like ever bc i can’t find anything on it that explains it well
wait thank you
we need to send this into space for alien life to see
Very good interpretations! One I can't find a clear one in is high times which I think you'll figure out with ease
i see similarities with john mayer's picking pattern
Nice, guitar guy xD
Man ur so cool.
Your new album is so so good. Just found your channel a few weeks ago from an Elliott Smith tutorial, but I really liked your individual sound as well. Glad I checked it out, and thank you very much for blessing my ears
thanks so much for listening
@@brushstrokemedallion whats the song at 2:33?

Good work!
Very good. Thanks,
3 seconds in, first thought - "I see you're dedicated enough to get a FG-180" :D Is it a red label as well? (got one myself that needs some much delayed love now)
i think so? there's a red label inside so maybe. if you ever need a neck reset, i highly recommend sending your guitar to dave fengler. he only works on yamaha FGs i think. it's only $300 and he does a phenomenal job. he made mine so much more playable and i will never get rid of it as long as i live :)
@@brushstrokemedallion If theres a red label it's a red label :) I don't live in the states so that is not an option sadly. I had the bridge lowered a while back as a "budget option" and that mostly sorted the playability issues / raised strings, but I need to replace all the frets and some other fixups on it. I love it to death if even mine is a bit beaten up and find myself reaching for it far more often than my entry level Martin.
What is it a reversed sax? Love this and your ES videos!
thanks - it’s two saxophones playing the melody and a pump organ through a space echo doing the drone notes
@@brushstrokemedallion really cool man.
I came for the ES vids but I'm staying for this amazing shit.
hahaha, appreciated
Great tutorial !! Please do more
Dude was Doc Watson level finger picker I don't blame you for not being 100% accurate. Thanks for being way more accurate than the shitty tabs available tbh.
i stumbled across your videos a few days ago and i just love the feeling they give me. I also thought you looked familiar and i realized you are .michael. and i had checked you out cause of adrianne lenker posting you on her instagram story:) i’ve become a big fan
Thank you!!!
if you do another elliott smith tutorial please do needle in the hay next! :-)
You are so good...
masterful
You are such a neat person! I’m just now really into Elliott Smith, so that’s how I found your channel. I love these little videos, and I hope you’re doing well!
