    I was given a snake plant start in a water glass in 1983 while serving in the US Army in Germany. I left Germany in 1994 and the plant, repotted many times was over 350 lbs. We would go on maneuvers and exercises sometimes for over a month at a time. It seemed to benefit from extended periods of "drought"... and rock-n-roll music. If I were a betting man I would put money on it being right where I left it almost 3 decades ago. Everyone stay safe.

      I put mine behind something in my living room and forgot about it for 6 months until one night I saw it in my dream...I know it was communicating with me. I woke up but couldn't remember where i put it, so I went back to sleep. The dang plant appeared in my dream again. Sooo I searched everywhere in my home and finally found it. It looked so dry and sad. I apologized profusely and gave it a good watering some food and was shocked that it came back so beautifully. It grew from 12" to 2' and it looks absolutely beaitiful'. Love these plants🥰

      Back in the early 70s my friend had thrown out her snake plant and it ended up in her drive way where they repeatedly ran over it every time the moved their car. One day I walked to her house which was close to mine, and I saw it laying there. I picked it up and asked her what happened. She said she hated that plant and threw it out. I asked if I could have it and she said of course but it was in terrible shape from being run over and uprooted and not taken care of for weeks. So, I took it home and planted it and in no time at all, that stupid thing took off and turned into a healthy plant. Frankly, I don't like them either. I don't know why tho. But, I'm a plant lover so had to take care of it. I might get more since it's good on cleaning the air. I'm a severe asthmatic so I need clean air. I have expensive air filters but anything more I can do, I will. Thanks for the video.

    I received a ‘congratulations!’ planter that included a snake plant when my first daughter was born, almost 33 yrs ago, and it’s managed to do well. Even after the planter got broken, and I‘temporarily’ stuck it in a plastic 1 pint food carton, while awaiting time to properly replant it. It is still in that container, in a southern-facing window! When I first received it, my grandmother told me to ‘get rid of it’, because her generation (and before) considered them bad luck. Glad I didn’t!😍🌈☀️

    This is one plant that actually thrives in household conditions, unlike many popularly promoted house plants. Sunlight, low light, seasonal light, most forms of the basic Sansevieria are almost bullet proof. They do not want to be too wet, especially in winter. Cool temperatures and reduced growing processes during winter dormancy and wet soil will rot them.

    On average, a healthy snake plant can produce approximately 5 to 6 grams of oxygen per hour. However, the oxygen produced during the day is partly consumed by the plant during the night. As a result, the net oxygen production by a snake plant is relatively low.
    To estimate the percentage of oxygen added to a room, we need to consider the room volume and the amount of oxygen produced. A 3x3 meter room with a standard ceiling height of around 2.4 meters would have a volume of approximately 21.6 cubic meters (3 x 3 x 2.4).
    Let's assume that a snake plant produces 5 grams of oxygen per hour. To convert this to moles (since gases are typically measured in moles), we can use the molar mass of oxygen, which is approximately 32 grams per mole. Therefore, the snake plant would produce 5/32 ≈ 0.15625 moles of oxygen per hour.
    To calculate the percentage of oxygen added to the room, we need to compare the moles of oxygen produced by the plant to the total moles of air in the room. The molar volume of an ideal gas at standard temperature and pressure (STP) is approximately 22.4 liters per mole. Considering the room volume of 21.6 cubic meters, we can convert it to liters (21,600 liters).
    Now, let's calculate the moles of air in the room:
    Moles of air = room volume (liters) / molar volume (liters/mole)
    Moles of air = 21,600 / 22.4 ≈ 964.29 moles
    Finally, we can calculate the percentage of oxygen added by the snake plant:
    Percentage of oxygen added = (moles of oxygen produced / moles of air) × 100
    Percentage of oxygen added = (0.15625 / 964.29) × 100 ≈ 0.0162%
    Based on these calculations, the average snake plant would add approximately 0.0162% of oxygen to a 3x3 meter room over the course of an hour. It's worth noting that this is a rough estimation, and the actual percentage may vary depending on various factors. Additionally, other factors such as ventilation and human respiration will have a much more significant impact on the oxygen levels in the room compared to a single snake plant.

    You need to check your 'facts'. The studies carried out explicitly stated that while the plants do remove pollutants the amount is so small per plant that in order to obtain an realistic benefit the room would have to be so full of plants that you would not be able to enter it.

    • @marisgoldenhour6212
      @marisgoldenhour6212 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I hoped someone would point that out. I remember reading articles regarding the benefits of plants, which were numerous. However, they made sure to include an approximate amount of plants per room or square footage in order to reap those benefits.

    • @piehole19
      @piehole19 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bingo. But people love anecdotes more than facts. 🤦🏻 Having a few plants in your room and believing it’s equivalent to a tropical rainforest is like saying holding a glass of salt water is equivalent to being on the ocean.
