I don't know if you know it, if you you block the strait when an army try to retreat you can syackwipe them because they've got no province to retreat .

The achievement for Basileus doesn't require you to actually take the whole Roman Empire, it's just the historical Byzantium lands in Anatolia and Greece and I think some in the Balkans. I was shocked when I got it and hadn't even touched Tunis or Iberia yet.
I haven’t watched this video in months but I want to say it was defensive? Straight crossing? Also I stacked as many combat modifiers as possible and likely had skanderbeg leading, very strong modifiers stacked to make my army very strong
@@danwarsop7477 Skandebeg, you can see the ottomans have no general; they didn't get the strait crossing penalty as that only applies if you catch them whilst crossing.
I've never played EU 4 but I've played almost 800 hours of HOI 4 so I know what Ironman mode is but you can save a game while in Ironman mode? I thought Ironman prevented any saving in a playthrough. I confused, if someone can please explain this to me that would be great

There’s quite a bit of luck around this start, yeah. This was my second try you’re seeing here so it’s not SUPER hard but yeah a few restarts may be needed
I could not peace out Crimea when doing this, i had occupied all his land except crimea which i was siegeing, i had killed most of his navy, but he did not want to peace out, could it be cause he was progressing on Selanik? I restarted and got a successful run against Ottomans and AQ, but when i allied Candar and they called me in, i was not able to get any sieges, Ottomans sieged down Candar to fast, and Candar blocked the straigt so i couldent lure one stack on Constantinople, so i restarted again, Ottomans and AQ, this time i got problems with the 5 stack, and Ottomans disengaged from Constantinople, so i merced up, and with help of Scanderberg fought his armies several times on Selanik, always escaping before the other stack could reinforce, this also broke the siege on Constantinople several times, and i got good amount of warscore, and then Mamluks decleared on them, i peaced out soon after, since they got a breach on Constantinople, but i peaced out with 80 warscore, and 600 ducats :D
So I had that problem, but the blockade on his capital is a big one, dont forget that! There's a bunch of ways to do it, I managed this one with some good luck for sure

Yeah you need some luck, the Ottomans can siege down Constantinople quite fast, specially if your not able to prevent the straight from being blockaded. But attacking his 5 stack, and pulling one stack over to Selanik to defeat it and escape before the other stack reinforces, worked well, i had 9 loans when i peaced out, and with 600 ducats it was no problem.
Could you tell me why i can't move my troops from Constantinople to Achaea. It is blocked by an enemy fort :/ i have to ask the ottomans for military access which is obviously not possible... Any ideas?
What version did you play this campaign? I've been trying in 1.29.5 and the Ottoman fleet always ends up blocking my 1k stack from crossing the strait into Kocaeli, even if that stack is commanded by a 3 maneuver general. Do I pray to RNJesus for a Ferrari general?

how come you delete Edirne's fort when that blocks the straight? I thought deleting Macedon and building fort in Thessaly to block of all of Greece was the best strat?
a general with a siege pip is amazing for the byzantium start, 2 on the ruler is even better; the rest of the stats don't even matter all that much; not like you're going to beat the ottomans in a straight up battle; kinda excited to see what your starting strat for the ottomans is; Is it going be joining the war for albania?
Polish Nationalist the key is to not be at 100% moral from turning up army maintenance, that will solve your problem. You won’t have any fights in the first month so low moral doesn’t matter
Hi, nice video. But for me the Ottos always have a fleet in the strait, so I cant move the one stack to siege Kocaeli because the army on their capital will catch mine always, because naval battles take half a month. Can anybody give advice? Im playing on 1.29.3

I swear to god, this shit is impossible, currently on my 15th attempt and every fucking time the rng fucks me over with either sieging Constantinople in 2-3 months due to breach in the wall or the "mothballed" fort in the strait gets reinforced before my guys get there...
Yeah there's a ton of RNG to it. Make sure your stack on Constantinople is NOT at 100% moral when you turn on maintenance before you declare on the Ottomans or they will turn the forts on. If they're not 100% moral they will often leave it turned off.

Yep it's wild. They have 13 or so in 1444, all about trying to catch them out separately. Albanias navy helps a lot too
I started this campaign several times and I failed on all of them. I am new to EU4 but have extensive experience in EU3.
It is frustrating.

Why did you develop the province you erased the fort from by 1 diplo dev and then assign it to the burghers?
To increase their influence for a free admiral and diplo points, and the fort was to save money!

It updates the save file. Eu4 Ironman updates on the monthly ticks, but if you want to save midway through a month you can :)

It probably was not maintained until that month, which means the garrison will be less than 100 and you automatically win those sieges.

They can’t get past the fort in Constantinople so it blocks the whole straight but yes one in Thessaly is fine

They key is to get there before the end of the month. Declare war on the first day of the month

It’s about trying to time it up. Make sure they aren’t or if they are it’s a 1-2 stack your navy can quickly kill off. It takes some restarts
