  • Blue slider can be positioned at various positions during the ascent
thanks to yellow pawl, red tension spring and the gravity.
Thanks to the interaction between the green pin and the white runway:
    - At the highest position of the blue slider, the pawl is separated from the pink rack.
    - At the lowest position of the blue slider, the pawl is brought into contact with the rack.
The spring generates a counterclockwise torque to the pawl when the slider goes up.
The spring generates a clockwise torque to the pawl when the slider goes down.
To get higher position of the slider: raise it to the desired position.
To get lower position of the slider: move it as high as possible, then move it down as
low as possible and raise it to the desired position.

Thank you for sharing your creativity. I often get "stuck" when I'm designing something new and your contributions are just what I need to reignite the spark.

I was confused until I realized it is bistable.

This is the exact method that safety locks on 2-post automotive lifts use.

I enjoyed the video. That's a great feature.
I have a question for you.
I wonder how the spring creates a counter-clockwise torque on the pole when the slider is raised.
Conversely, I am also curious about how a clockwise torque is generated on the pole when the slider is lowered.
The spring simply has tension, but is the direction of the torque determined by the posture of the pole?

Pay your attention to relative positions between the longitudinal axis of the spring and rotary center of the yellow pawl.
When the pawl gets the highest position, the axis moves from the right side of the pawl rotary center to the left, thus generating a clockwise torque.
When the pawl gets the lowest position, the axis moves from the left side of the pawl rotary center to the right, thus generating a counterclockwise torque.

    great video sir. a masterpiece.
my only comment would be "lower blue pin is a little confusing since it is looking like interacting with spring -but it is not.
may i ask which software do you use to create theese models sir?
