- On March 11, 2015 NASA and Orbital ATK conducted the first qualification ground test of the five-segment rocket motor that will be used for initial thrust for NASA's heavy-lift Space Launch System, which will enable new missions of exploration across the solar system. This video gives a quick look at the events of the day.
can i get one of those to kill a wasp nest?
I think. Also burn down everything around it and kill you the engine is so powerful it causes a vibration that can crush your bones and crush you in an instant
@@blazeyt7543 Hey, at least the wasps are 50% dead
Haha! Dude, That must be one huge wasp nest.
@@joecaruana5036 or he really REALLY just hates those wasps. Which fair enough, wasps fucking suck
Say bye to that nest and 1/3 the neighborhood
always good to hear those boosters roar again keep up the good work guys
this isn’t from orbital atk, this is from nasa.
rest in peace who was in the headphones))
I think the guy standing next to it holding the camera is the real hero here.
0:58 when a rocket ignition is a perfectly cut scream.
Ok, Redback spider problem sorted.
Just noticed, I'm actually in this video at around 1:43, all the way up front against the retaining wall with my tripod (the video I shot at that moment is available on my page). That was one heck of a show! Several former astronauts in that VIP viewing area as well.
Now that was cool, that's what I wanted to see was the view from far away. Now I'll never feel even the least bit guilty about smoky bonfires, or grilling out.
3:20 i love how a little sprinkler is trying to extinguish an eternal hellfire of doom
First time watching that initial bang startled me lol
I'd love to know the decibel levels at certain distances. This is nuts 👍
the fact that there is US competition plus world competition.... I have to believe will create so much technological strength in rocketry... for anyone related to this industry it has to be an awesome time in history.
Today I learned that solid rocket boosters are bad ass
I could see the glow from my house.
1:13 that bird is an absolute menace
Alien's go to invade .... see this ...one Alien turns to another -"fuck this" ... turns around ..... flys away ....
would love to see a before and after of that hillside...lol! ♥
It is my dream to work on the SLS. My grandfather worked for North American Aviation during the Apollo program. Building strain gauges for the Saturn V. Hope it skips a generation!
You really wanna waste part of your life working on a bureaucratic monster that won't take off more than maybe three times?
If nothing else killed you, the sound alone from standing directly next to this would lol
1:13-1:15 a guy is walking down there
I think that was a bird
2:22 That looks exactly like a volcano eruption!
Firing solid rocket booster make literal hell on the other side
The best cigarette lighter ever....
0:59 me after eating Taco Bell 🌮
Bro I died. 🤣 my whole family had to come see what I was laughing at I kept replaying it.
2:01, a face appears in the bottom left of the clouds. The face is kinda spooky.
i see what you mean although it looks like Donald duck to me...human brains are so complex it will discern patterns in even randomly generated optical phenomena such as a dust cloud...many people assert that faces appeared in the 9/11 dust clouds that followed after the impact of the planes
I'd love to be able to watch one of these SRB tests in person.
I hope you directed it eastwards, days just aren‘t long enough
Thankyou
Remember when this company was called Morton Thiokal?
I don’t i wasn’t alive i’ve just watched too many videos with these boosters
YES FINALLY SLOW MOTION FOOTAGE OF A ROCKET BOOSTER
however its overexposed :(
Right after the rocket ignite they show a view where the propane tank is in a trench just below the rocket there looks like there's somebody walking there doesn't it
No wonder the days got longer.
Next time fire it in the opposite direction please.
Thats what I imagine Madara Uchiha's great fire annihilation technique to be like irl.
Too bad the Sugarshot to Space challenge was cancelled. So many people, made so much progress with sugar rocketry. A shame it was left behind. My local Tripoli chapter denied my application to join, because I was only interested in making and using sugar fuels.
Oh, and this video is cool. I used to work for this company for 6 years.
Wow, the lateral booster with solid fuel is so powerfull.
am i the only one thinking about the poor mountain? love the sound they make though.
Holy hell.. is that entire cylinder swelling at the base?
In fact, this is the Chuck Norris's bazooka that he designed for killing Cthuluh.
Why do they have to extinguish the fire at the end of the test? instead of letting it cool by itself?
What the heck are you trying to stop Earth's rotation
Any chance of each shot in its entirety instead of this edit?
When a drill sergeant yells at cadets: 1:00
AWSOME!!!!!
With 3 of them, u can stop the spin of the earth ^^ Thats why they only can start one at a time ^^
What if you put 10M from those and light them up at the same time ? Can they be able to stop Earth and start spin it reverse ?
Ферад Реджебов) Nope. The number of rockets required to do that would literally kill the entire planets atmosphere with exhaust gases.
There was a proposed project to do that to Change where nuclear warheads would land. It was called Operation Retrograde
just wonder how would this sound on Dolby DTS
1:00 why is that flame created outside of the bosster? because of the shock wave(compression)??
lens reflection
where is this?
did the earth move for you ??
Does this engine meet the EURO 6 standards?
An earrape to all earrapes.
made earth rotate 1% faster
1:03, what are those pieces of material coming out of the booster? Are they meant to come out
These are nozzle plugs which prevents heat, dust and moisture from getting into booster
Alguien me puede decir que temperaturas puede alcanzar unas llamas asi
Damn folks I said medium rare
Doesn't anyone wonder if these tests could change the rotational speed of the planet??
The exhaust would have to leave the atmosphere and attain escape velocity to do that.
its to small
VERY SMALL

Whats with all the dirt? Devising ways to not kick up so much dry earth into atm, is not that hard, I would think. Dampened soil is going reduce as much dust. Real launches use plenty of water sprayed during launch.
Karthik V the water for real launches are not to prevent dirt being kicked up, it's for sound suppression to not damage the launch pad, either way the kicked up dirt will fall back to earth as it's not a gas.
FlameT def sys??

Looks like the SRB from the Shuttle.
It basically is a shuttle SRB but with one extra segment (five instead of four) with about 25% more fuel.
Why not bet solely on solids for orbital Insertion? These Enormous machine is so much cheaper then other rocket systems.
+drbeekjeek 262s in vacuum NASA says, still amazing for that price
+HarryHoppins These types of rockets are obsolete. Impossible to throttle or relight the engine. So it is impossible to attempt reusability.
The future is reusability which requires liquid.
+HarryHoppins apart of less efficient, you cant control SRB once you lit it, you have to let it burnt out. no powering down, not turning it off, no reigniting it.
+izzad ibrahim Recently read something about the concept of big dumb booster. just thought could be an option, but obviously solids aren't safe enough, maybe hybrids with pressurized oxidizer in composite tanks could be.
HarryHoppins remember the boosters are there only to power the rocket through the thickest of the atmosphere. Regular rocket engines can't push that weight without burning through their fuel supply before reaching orbit, that's why boosters are used, to conserve the liquid fuel, once they're spent, you're in thinner atmosphere so you can use solely the liquid rocket engines as there is less drag up there. You wanna know about REALLY dangerous fuels. Look up hypergolics.
I randomly felt bad for all animals/insects that were there and just got incinerated... F well anyways this was epic
Looks like Krakatau erupting
Willey Coyote would be proud

how much hp does that booster have?
Bommklaus1695 I believe each had 22 million horse power

I failed to understand why would anyone on that parking lot want to be there. All you can see it a huge pile of smore and "some" flames. Also huge noise. But I guess that's what Americans like anyway.

Bad move merging with Orbital. ATK was fine without them and their weak Antares made with Russian and Ukrainian engines and core. Which blew up by the way. What were you thinking ATK?
+Jamie Godman Clearly uneducated.
kbent88 Does my opinion bother you? Too bad. But go ahead and show your maturity by slinging insults. Clearly uneducated.
Hahahaha. I love Hypocrites. Hilarious.
kbent88 Agreed.
+Jamie Godman They are both toast. It doesn't matter that Orbital merged with ATK. Neither has any experience with reusability and they are not even trying. They will likely be out of the rocket launch business entirely after SLS is cancelled in a few years.
