Your story about nursing school really resonates with me. Women's health has always been my passion, but recently L&D caught my attention and now I don't want anything else for myself ad my future career. I graduate in May, but residency at my school's home hospital are opening next month. I am SO nervous, but I am applying to any and all L&D positions there are. Do you have any things you think a new grad NEEDS TO know/bring to the table in L&D?
I love this ! I followed you before I got my L&D RN job in May this year ! I am a new nurse and did COVID vaccines until the sites went away bc the pay was good! I also just didn’t want to give up on landing a job In women’s health! I’ve been a L&D nurse 7 months now and it’s definitely like you describe it ! Everyday is different. You learn so much. And I did NOT want to do med surg out of school haha I do believe that if you can become a PCA/CNA or tech on a L&D floor it definitely gives SO much insight. I didn’t have that privilege so I learned it all on my first day! I have so much support from my colleagues and I’m at a hospital where we always have residents and providers no matter what time which is fantastic when things go south. It is definitely amazing to be there during vulnerable times and happy moments for family but also heart breaking when a baby doesn’t make it. But we still do our nurse role and support our mothers and families. I see myself here for the rest of my nursing career and don’t want to leave. Some people don’t like the adrenaline in L&D but I love everything else about it. And there’s always always support when you think you’re alone or something happens. ❤ I love to follow people like you in my field ! I just have to learn to braid my hair already 😂

Yesterday I stumbled upon your videos randomly and love them! Then I just watched this and was shocked to find you studied in Chico! I’m from chico!!! 😂 such a small world! I recently gave birth at Enloe and sadly they didn’t have water births as an option so it’s cool you work in another hospital that has it. It would of been amazing having you as my nurse!! Your patients are lucky! Like another commenter mentioned, I too would love to know your own birthing experience.

I remember with my second pregnancy my gallbladder started to go bad and set up infection I was in and out of the hospital this one kind nurse who was always working was always so sweet to me I can’t remember her name for the life of me but I remember her face and she’s also in my birth photos she wasn’t working the day I had my son but she happen to be there and wanted to be in the OR with me (emergency C-section) he had to come out so fast because of the infection my hubs wasn’t able to make it in time and I was so scared I remember looking over at her and she had the biggest smile on her face and told me I felt like family she had grew to feeling like I was her daughter and she was going to miss seeing me I’m pregnant with our 4th and final and I hope I have lovely nurses this time around in February 2022 I had our 3rd and I swear the nurses hated us and their lives as well lol

Just found your channel, and while I'm not remotely close to even considering having children, I must admit I'm really enjoying to get to know all of this stuff! I was also wondering, what is your experience with women who decide to become mothers in their late 30's-early 40's?? Is it really that much riskier or different than younger women??

I have been struggling with finding what unit I would enjoy the most when I become a nurse. I do not prefer to work with the geriatric is what I know so far. Do you have any suggestions? I wanted to go to nursing school but decided not to bc I only want to do L&D or NICU. I would be crushed if I did my schooling and didn’t get one of those.
Is there any way to make sure you get the specialty you want?
Some hospitals will require you to start on a medsurg unit, some hospitals will let you start anywhere of your choice. It helps if you do you do your preceptorship in the unit of your choice but you won’t always get to pick. You will get to L&D, it may just take time and practice as some facilities want you to build your skill set first.
How do you stay in such great shape after having 2 kids? Diet Tips?
If you don't mind me asking, what hospital do you work at (company, not the exact location😅)? I'm a second-semester student at CSU Sacramento (also getting my BSN) and I want to go into L&D but I'm scared I won't get a preceptorship because a lot of my peers also want to go into L&D. Do you have any tips that may help me get a preceptorship or internship? Does your hospital offer anything for new grads?
Try applying to the Rural Preceptorship. Look it up, it’s through Chico State
