Also, it's possible to change speaker cabinets, mic types and change mic positions. You can run and blend two different cabs or slave one into the other, or just run a single cab. It also allows to load your own IR impulses, that you may have downloaded or purchased elsewhere, into S-gear. Really nice!

The Wayfarer's clean is modeled after either a Twin or Deluxe Reverb depending on the bright frequency selected in the additional parameters below the amp (where you get the sag, hi-cut, etc. or graphic EQ for the Wayfarer). It's by far the most versatile amp in S-Gear.

In fact I’m going to comment twice. Your playing on here was brilliant. Some top licks.

As soon as you started playing the chords on the duke amp, immediately thought- dead ringer for doobie brothers: long train running but tuned down half a step :) Great review and demo.

I've got all the BiasFX content and a bunch of floor units but I've been using S-Gear exclusively lately. Maybe later this year I'll explore Plini, but for now, S-Gear answers all my needs for a straight ahead sim. Best Regards!

Thanks for this brief, first impressions evaluation of S-Gear. It is long overdue as it is one of the finest amp sims available. I was disappointed to hear your comment about the $129 asking price considering the fact that you are getting a sophisticated package containing 5 "amplifiers", delay plugins, reverb plugins and a convolver to load your IRs for the COST OF A COUPLE OF CARTONS OF BEER!! I would also like to point out that because you use Reaper, you can import S-Gear into Reaper and when you have had the opportunity to read some of the tutorials on Reaper, you will find that it is really easy to load/import a backing track into Reaper in order for you to play along using S-Gear as your amp. Alternatively, you can use a set of headphones with dual inputs [OneOdio from AliExpress] so you can listen to your Reaper output simultaneously with any backing track from any source such as TH-cam . And finally, the advantage of using S-Gear in Reaper is that you can further enhance the amazing range of presets by importing other VST/VST3 plugins that are not included in S-Gear [at this stage until version 3]. In conclusion, let me say that in this digital age we are spoiled with so many quality choices in DAWs and Amp Sims at such ridiculously low prices. Gone are the days when we had to shell out big bucks for one amp, one guitar and a couple of pedals to get a limited choice of tones. For under $1000, a beginner can get a Harley Benton guitar, Reaper DAW, S-Gear [or Guitar Rig, or BlueCat Axiom, or BIAS Amp etc] as an Amp SIM, a decent set of headphones or computer monitor speakers and be set up with an infinite range of guitar models, tones, amps, pedals etc to be happy for a lifetime. Yes there is a requirement to invest more hours in learning how to effectively use these digital products [as well as learning to play the guitar] but the investment is Sooooooo worth the time spent. My motto is "ENJOY THE JOURNEY" because any time spent on musical education is time well spent!!

Erm... All I said was that I like the software & I didn't think the price was exorbitant. The only reason I'm not buying it is because I already have my amp sim needs covered. The ferocity & length of your comment seems to suggest you're under the impression I dislike the software & think it's too expensive. Neither of which is the case.

    • @laurensedenburg8144
      @laurensedenburg8144 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I have just replayed your video and agree that you liked the software and didn't think the price exorbitant. I apologize for sounding FEROCIOUS, I was attempting to emphasize the fact that this amazing piece of software is fantastic value for $129! [This also illustrates the fact that it is easy to read emotions into an electronic text]. I'm a big fan and certainly meant no malice :-) But no, you can't play a backing track inside of the Standalone version but when you load it into Reaper as you have done for this demo, it is easy to create a new track in Reaper into which you import your backing track so problem solved. BTW....I also own Blue Cat Axiom to which you gave a similar review, again questioning the cost so I guess my comment was aimed at your evaluation of the price. Finally......"different strokes for different blokes" so if you are happy with your amp sims, I shouldn't be upset that you aren't going to rush out and buy these other sims. Cheers and thanks for this TH-cam site. @@JRobsonGuitar

Good video, man. About your complaint in regards to standalone apps not allowing jam tracks in the background: I used to think the same until I discovered it's entirely dependent upon which guitar interface you are using and the ASIO drivers. I had this problem in the past until I got a MOTU M2 and now I can have S-Gear or Amplitude running in standalone mode and jam along to TH-cam, Spotify, or anything else I can throw at it. Definitely made my life a lot easier, plus the M2 sounds amazing to boot.

Good morning from Texas John, I've been really busy lately with working on the peanut brittle guitar and having some renovations done at my humble abode, but I'm back to listen to your thoughts. Let's see what nuggets of wisdom you have for us this fine morning.

The Wayfarer is NOT a MESA Boogie but a Fender vintage amp (switch voicing between "Deluxe" and "Twin" )

I have S-Gear for anything that Neural DSP's Cory Wong Archetype can't do. I think the price is excellent - I'm in the process of selling a lot of gear that I now don't really need due to these two plugins. It's interesting that you prefer Guitar Rig. I have it for much the same reason I have Amplitube - I got it 'free' in a bundle of other software I wanted. I find both good, but with too many options for me. I pretty consistently use a small subset of sounds, and that's all I want. I don't want to jam to a backing track, so the utility you find is lacking for me, but it shows that there are a number of things that people need to consider when buying software, and it's not just what amps, cabs and effects are covered - otherwise you might assume functionality that isn't present.

Hi John, you can use your standalone amp sims alongside jamtracks, youtube etc: ......... sound control panel, probably won't need to change playback, go to recording and 'stereo mix' should show (if not right click and show disabled devices). right click stereo mix set as default, click listen - listen to this device - in the drop down menu select second in list, allow and ok then ok on sound control panel, restart pc .................... that should allow you to listen to amp sim and jam track at same time, some may need to just adjust their own settings to suit their computer but that's how I did mine

@@JRobsonGuitar I know some sound cards don't support doing that, usually newer ones don't allow it for some reason, older sound cards are generally ok. sorry it didn't help mate.

I just can't figure out what the 'Steely Deluxe' is supposed to be emulating...if only there was some band who had a similar sound.

Great video , my friend downloaded the trial after hearing a demo but when he plays guitar with the plugin,
you hear half of a clean tone with some of the plugin's dirt mixed with it and it also has a weird out of phase tone so I'm wondering what is the problem because I'd like to get one and he also does . Gotta point out that he has no issue with his other UAD pluging like Friedman and so on . He his using Protools with UAD interface.

    Hey John great video!
I'm wondering...how are you able to do these live demos of you playing live using S-Gear while also recording this video? I am aware of Voicemeeter for doing live DAW recording tutorials, but I can't get it to work with S-Gear (or any amp sim for that matter). It always creates a horrible feedback loop.
I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing how you are able to do this? Thanks!

So John, really appreciate your work on showing S-Gear 2. But honestly giving thumbs on NI Guitar Rig over S-Gear2 just because the possibility to load a track into the software directly instead of using your DAW (which I assume you have) is just rediculous. S-Gear just sounds, and more importantly, feels so much better that GuitarRig and any other plugin based amp simulation out there at the moment. This includes NI Guitar Rig, IK Amplitube, PG Bias AMP and FX, WAVES Guitar, Presonus Ampire, Toontrack EZMix, Ignite Amps, Nalex Amps, STL Tones and all the others more which I don't own. I really love your channel, but this resumee was just disapointing.

Perhaps you missed the part of the video where I said I preferred the sound & feel of Guitar Rig. The handy facility to load a jam track into GR as a stand alone wasn't going to sell it to me if I didn't think it sounded better.
You prefer S-Gear, which is perfectly legitimate. However, I prefer GR for all the reasons you prefer Scuffham. Sorry this disappointed you, but we can't all like the same stuff.

I play Jamtracks in one app and run the guitar through S-Gear in its own app. Both come out of the same speakers - so what is the advantage of Guitar Rig?!?

I have bought many amp sims in the last year and many of them are good but in the end I always come back to S-Gear, it offers so many great sounds I like and...I don't know how to describe it...it just feels right, I have another connection to it compared to other amp sims:
I found it a bit funny that you prefer Guitar Rig as it had nothing to do with the sound but that's a fair reason.
Last but not least I have to thank you for the stuff you played...99% of you tube videos are by people shredding some metal stuff which is most annoying to me
