    It's so hard to not buy all the fuzzes, but I think this one is an important one to have! It's in my top pedals to buy next.

    My favorite fuzz factory review! You give lots of good starting settings to jump off from without getting overwhelming. You show how the volume control on your guitar affects the fuzz circuit, and you show how this pedal is useful to both rhythm and lead players by playing chords and single note lines. Well done!

    Great demo, thanks! All I’ve been reading is how hard this pedal is to use and you really demonstrated it’s usability, and showed off its whackiness. Can’t wait to get one next month.

      I have never liked fuzz, but this thing is really great. It HAS to be the first pedal you plug into though and all the clean stuff works best with single coills. But yeah, you just need to spend some time. Start with volume at 12 o'clock, stab all the way on and everything at 0.

      @@yaguitar Nice! I'll put it first in my chain then, and do what you say. I also found a list of suggested settings I can play about with as well. I'll pick one up in July probably, can't wait!

    It is the best I've tried, and I've been through many boutique and vintage pedals.It's far superior to the standard version, - which is still better than the best FuzzFace out there.
    Having said that, it's also highly input power and temperature sensitive, and the mini switch and added bass circuit have caused me problems more than once.I'm not an engineer, but I'm thinking that the added components are not entirely stable, - or are just fragile.
    It's the first Fuzz I've noticed that favors camera type vintage batteries, - and it loses it's main desireable qualities when it gets hot.All in all, a studio & bedroom pedal, as opposed to gigging..
    I've never seen the reliability concerns stated elsewhere, and I certainly wouldn't want that to deter anyone, and Zvex does have solid customer service.Maybe I just got very unlicky a few times.
    First in chain,- keep away from buffers.

      @@yaguitar the only thing I don't like is it needs to be the first in the chain or you'll lose the "Muse" effect. Impossibile to apply it after a micromixer with four different sources and one out

      @@luca-_500 yes, it's at its core an old school fuzz which sadly means first in chain. My one gripe as well.

    Looking over the schematic, it's definitely loosely based on a Fuzz Face. Even though I'm largely a shred and sweep instrumental and metal guy, fuzzes are still my absolute favorite style of distortion. I'm working on my own fuzz design ATM with BJT's I've managed to get incredibly high input impedance without bootstrapping in common-emitter configuration, and my gain is through the roof. I was experimenting with some single package Darlingtons, but the BJT's are just sounding better granted they're still quite similar.
    This thing does sound good though and for about 50 cents, probably less, I can build one lol.
    I tinkered a bit with some germaniums in hard clipping configuration, and granted it's no longer a fuzz if I go that way, they still keep it sounded exactly like a fuzz, especially by running a high-pass filter to them rather than full bandwidth. My lows and low-mids are naturally clipped by the BJT running it at the peak of it's operating specs, and clipping it this way gives a lot more chime for the upper mids and treble.

    • @yaguitar
      @yaguitar  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's sounds cool. Ioved the zvex, but i found it more and more temperamental around other pedals!

    • @JonDeth
      @JonDeth 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@yaguitar I'm not surprised. They're very low input impedance and BJT's are often used for that reasos, it's not ideal for guitar and they have poor thermal stability in simpler configurations like this pedal.
      The fuzz I'm working on is 2 gain stages and I configured the first so it's a couple meg ohms of input, running at the top of it's limits so it's naturally clipping, then using it to overdrive the 2nd which is at about 50% of it's operating specs. The trouble with configuring a BJT for high impedance is those huge resistor values are prone to noise, so I'm building one on perfboard tonight and if testing it near other equipment, lights etc. and with various guitars and if it has issues, I'll replace it with a Darlington.
      I'm also going to add some germanium diodes I can add a switch to. They'll go deep into hard clipping, but using a high pass filter on them to ground really keeps the circuit true to the fuzz sound. It keeps all the desired muddiness to the natural fuzz and adds some chime and edge to the upper range for improved clarity to the lower ranges.

      Have you tried or heard the Fairfield Circuitry ~900? Among all the cumulative clipping circuits I've come across in the last couple decades, it's one of the most unique and useful takes.That , and the Matthews The Broker stand out as smart and different approaches; the latter modifies and expands two of the most basic drive circuits, providing the full range of both, while also creating blends that approach the Fuzz Factory in sheer sonic mayhem,- and when it came out amongst a hundred other new releases, it got entirely overlooked.

      @@markferguson3745 I loved it but ultimately the fact that I could not use it after other pedals meant I stopped using it. Amazing pedal, but not right for my needs in the end.
