Every time I’ve watched this with somebody who hasn’t seen it before, people don’t usually crack up at the “with a pickle…?!” line like I did. I love that you enjoyed the delivery of that line as much as I do!
That's my fav line out of all of it. I still repeat it to this day wherever possible
For me it's the face Bernard makes after Manny agrees to the pickle
I know, it's always hilarious to me how exited he is for the pickle and that stupid happy face he pulls.
There's something so strangely cute about it, hilarious

It's one of my go to shows, there's not a bad character in it but Statham absolutely slays me
Dylan Moran's stand-up is definitely worth checking out. "Monster" "Like, Totally" and "Yeah Yeah" are all great.

The show gets funnier and funnier. Definitely a cult classic this.
I love Bill Bailey, he's a genuinely funny, great guy. I've seen him live three times, he's a very talented musician as well as a comedian. His love of nature is something I really respect too
The way Bernard smiles at Manny in their first interaction is a wonderful touch. Bernard treats Manny like crap later on but... he likes him, deep down. Even needs him.

I work in a shop and so I have never related to a character more than I have Bernard Black. He just does and says the things I'd love to say to my customers lol. I also enjoy a drink, it's like he is me.

A delightfully oddball, memorable and original comedy, well written and performed. Well up to the standard of 'The IT Crowd' and 'Father Ted' and whilst it did well and has lots of fans, it seems it was never quite as much a hit as the other two, I don't understand why, because it's just as funny. But you have three series ahead of you, so enjoy! My favourite episode is the one where a new modern bookshop opens next door and Manny goes to work for them.

This show gets better and better, this was basically the pilot, just setting the scene. Bernard owns a bookshop, Manny was an accountant, and Fran runs a tat shop next door. Its all set in London, and the people they meet are pretty spot-on for London XD
Dylan Moran is truly, truly brilliant. I know his stand-ups by heart. Would adore to see you react to those!

Another show by Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews that is also extremely funny (And stars Simon Pegg) is HIPPIES. Like Black Books and IT Crowd it has some of the funniest moments in recentish tv history :D

You HAVE to try 15 Storeys High - Sean Lock’s masterpiece.
His radio shows were good and led on to the tv series. 15 minutes of misery and then 15 storeys high.

I love this show. If you haven’t seen it yet and enjoy Black Books I’d also recommend Spaced which stars Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes, with Nick Frost and Bill Bailey, and directed by Edgar Wright.
NOT the American remake, that has and deserves a 1.2 on IMDB.

Graham Linehan actually had very little contribution to this. He had a co-writing credit on the first series only. This was mainly Dylan Moran's creation.
You're a tease with Red Dwarf, but this is a good series. The surreal stuff is hit and miss for me - a bit odd to start it off with it right in this one, but there's a good one in a restaurant later.
Dylan muran was the main righter…..you can kinda tell he is when you watch Dylan’s stand ups.
Still weird that the Friday Night Dinners mum (Jackie) is in this series. Look so so different
There was a used bookshop in our town that was not far from this. Once there was "gone to lunch" handwritten sign on the door for over a week... He was at the back drinking wine. Not kidding about this, it is just so funny how close this hits..

Black Books is Dylan Moran's show really. Linehan was brought on as a co-writer for the first season but it was always Moran's creation

Love Black Books, the cat episode is fantastic, and the episode with Manny next door, is incredible lol!! I think you should do something like This Country or People just do nothing they're probably the most relatable comedies for me, my childhood was a sorta mix of the 2 with a big dose of inbetweeners, from like 2001 to 2013 lol!!

Very good series although I feel like the second episode is actually a better introduction to the series.
I'm pretty sure, and hope, you enjoy this. I did more than I thought I would. It kind of reminds me of the IT crowd in a way. I'm glad my friend made me watch it.

OK, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you only know Linehan for his writing since, purely based on that, sure, he's written a lot of great stuff. I would say though, consider looking up what he's been up to for the last decade and then decide if you're comfortable calling him a "genius".
