Lindsey’s Journey to the Averett ABSN Program

Averett’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program is made for students from non-traditional nursing education backgrounds, so there are many paths you can take to become an ABSN student. Lindsey explains what brought her to the nursing field and what made her choose the Averett ABSN program.
Lindsey wanted to find a nursing program she could complete as quickly as possible, as her husband is in the military. Because Lindsey lives a fast-paced life where things can change rapidly, it was vital that she could quickly become a nurse anywhere.
“This program is very fast paced, which means I’ll be done in a short time,” she says. “So, if we do get orders, I’ll be done with school; I have a degree and a certification and something I can move to different states with.”
Averett’s ABSN program was ideal because it worked with Lindsey’s lifestyle and provided a solid foundation for future nursing practice. She was attracted to the benefits and the fact that Averett offers a fully developed and comprehensive nursing program, even with it taking significantly less time to complete.
Lindsey had previously worked in a trauma center and loved its fast-paced and high-stakes environment: “You need to connect with your patients and their families because it’s one of the worst times of their life.”
However, she says she is open to exploring new areas of nursing.
“Even though I have a passion for critical care, it also makes me think about things that I can do outside of work, or maybe in tandem with work or school, that can improve the community,” she says.
Averett ABSN students can explore many nursing pathways through labs and clinical rotations. Says Lindsey: “There are a lot of different career choices and pathways that you can go within nursing, a lot of which I’ve just begun to explore and learn about. … so, it’s not just you have to work in a big hospital setting. There’s something for everyone interested in this field.”
