  • Wondering how does an accelerated nursing program work? For the Averett University Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program, the first step involves contacting an admissions counselor. During this scheduled appointment they will take the time to learn about your previous experience and your goals, and then will help you determine which requirements you might need to become eligible to apply to the program. Upon acceptance into the program, you can earn your degree in as few as 16 months.
So, once you are accepted into one, how does an accelerated nursing program work? Averett’s ABSN program is designed to teach, practice, and apply concepts to prepare you for the profession. Our three-part learning model comprises a rigorous, accredited curriculum split over four full-time semesters:
You will complete the nursing theory component of our online curriculum through our intuitive e-Learning platform. This allows students to develop study habits and the freedom to study when and where works best for them.
Then, you will practice what you learned in the simulation and skills labs at our Norfolk ABSN learning center. This allows students to practice and refine their clinical skills through real-world patient care scenarios. Students learn alongside their peers, under the guidance of experienced faculty using state-of-the-art equipment, including realistic medical manikins.
Finally, you will put all this nursing knowledge together during clinical rotations. These hands-on experiences give students the confidence to go out into the world and know what they are doing at their jobs. You will complete 488 clinical hours at top health care facilities, in addition to 97 clinical hours via simulation at the Norfolk ABSN learning center, for a total of 585 clinical hours.
