I got my Helix yesterday, bought a couple WT patches, and stuck them in there. They didn't sound right. I then found myself thinking, "I wish they had a tutorial video showing me about their settings." Thanks fellas! Setting the outputs to instrument and mic level did the trick! Problem solved.

The pad is there to help the models respond correctly to active instruments. You guys mentioned active electric guitars but I think it’s also important to note that acoustic guitars and many basses have active circuits. If any aGtr or bass players are using HX products or a POD GO and struggling, this could help.
The line level outputs are useful if anyone is using this to power their home studio monitors. The HX line is incredibly useful for guitarists recording at home so I hope people are taking advantage of this. You just have to remember to change it back when you go out to the gig haha
Lastly, I think the “snapshot recall/discard” function is very important when creating your presets. During the creation of a preset, it’s important to set this to “recall” but once you’re ready to go out to a gig/service, it’s probably best to set this to “discard” so that you Know exactly what you’re getting when you’re switching snapshots.
Thanks for the video, fellas. Tons of great info in here.

So for anyone who doesn't have any other knowledge, there is a major benefit to the global eq above just making small adjustments for a specific venue. While they are correct in the video, there is more to it. The helix is a full range device and guitar amps are not. So you may find certain frequencies are present in your tone that don't sound great. When I got mine it wasn't a "bad" sound but there was definitely something there I was fighting against. Rolled off the ultra highs and ultra lows (about 110hz and 2.0khz respectively... adjust to taste) and it made a massive difference in feel. Not so much the overall tone that the helix puts out but definitely got rid of some unnatural frequencies I didn't want in there. Totally worth trying out.

Hi, just come across your channel and I’m finding loads of good stuff for the Helix including this video. It’s great that you talk about these settings parameters and what they do as no one else really goes into this in this amount of detail, so thank you! I do have a question though, a problem with the Helix that I can’t resolve. When I import a preset from anyone who shares them, it ALWAYS sounds muffled and at a low volume compared to my own presets I’ve built. I use an FRFR speaker by the way, but the fix I do everytime is I have to tweak the downloaded preset heavily, to get it to match the EQ and volume of my others, and I’m sure this is too much hard work and there must be something I am doing wrong with maybe the basic helix settings? Please help! Thanks

Great video! I recently got the matchless JMP helix patch and I’m loving it. I had a question though; my sound technician told me at several services and rehearsals that when running stereo, one of the channels is putting out less signal than the other. Is this how the patch was designed or is there some setting I need to change. The sound tech was able to match the levels from his end but i want to fix the issue to make it easier on him. Let me know, thanks!

    • @jimkordahl9490
      @jimkordahl9490 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Jonathan Tise perhaps the monitor levels aren’t even, that feasibly could cause your issue. You probably have went down that road already. If it’s coming through the house then one of the channels needs to be reduced or bumped up. I’m sure that can be adjusted.... I think. One last thing, your stereo pedals, what is the “spread” set at? Try “10” if you see fit for your work flow, “10” maximizes the stereo field width. That’s said, we are now in the personal preference zone making my 2 cents possibly worthless lol. Jason Sadites has many very good tutorials for the helix making it so much easier to navigate to the result you may be seeking. He just rebooted his very first vid in his “creating a great tone” series.

@Worship Tutorials - I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the Helix in a few weeks. I've been waiting because I just started playing guitar at a new church (new to me). Unfortunately, this church is a bit technologically challenged, not of the Pastor's doing but former worship leaders who basically stole the in ear monitor system. We have one wedge on the stage which is in front of the worship leader. The strange thing is that the acoustics on this stage are awesome and you can hear every instrument and vox. Right now, I'm using a Blackstar 60 watt combo with an HX FX! It sounds wonderful. But I like the fact that I could be utilizing 8 snapshots versus 4 on the HX FX. So I'm thinking I could send one channel to the FX Loop of the combo amp and the other to the house for now. So my question is, how good does the Helix sound direct to the house? Are the dynamics of swells, or even playing softer translated to the house? Eventually we wil go to in ears once the Pastor releases the funds to us. She is giving us a blank canvass for our worship team. Just wanted to know your thoughts!

Hey guys, now that it's a couple years later, are you setting the volume knob so it only controls the 1/4" outputs? That seems to be the most common practice. Then the unity gain mic level XLR out can't get changed/bumped accidentally, but you can still control the volume to a stage amp, FRFR, etc.

I kinda wish you could do the discard/recall for snapshots on a patch by patch basis. Because for Artist or Genre patches I want recall, so when I start a song and I can setup each snapshot quickly with just my feet for that song, and then I just bank up and back again without saving to avoid losing the OG settings. But, when I use song specific patches (like back in the before-time when I played sets at church), I want it to discard cause I have each song section how I want it and when I go to the verse I don't want a Rat on by accident.

I'm trying to decide between the Helix and the HX Stomp. I'm not a performer (yet) I just need a silent (headphone) home practice solution. That said it'd be cool to have a variety of amp sims and effects to "play" with. Helix is likely more than I need now, but it'd be nice to be future-proof and not have to ever worry about having enough foot switches or insufficient I/O. On the other hand, I don't want to waste money on features I will never use.
A tough decision and it gives me anxiety lol.

Hey would you guys be willing to check out the Line 6 Helix LT for a video? It seems very similar to the regular Helix Floor, with minor differences and about 2/3 of the price. I'm not sure whether buying the floor is worth it after looking into the LT.

I have the LT and the only limitation is that in stompbox mode you only have 8 footswitches instead of 10. I mostly use snapshot mode and that’s exactly the same on both devices so I would say go for the LT especially for the price. Also, check out the Line 6 video by Paul Hindmarsch he does a pretty good comparison.

Pad works best with active pups. My Gilmour EMG setup likes it better.

no unity does not mean "one", it means "same" you set everything to unity to try and keep the sound at the same consistent level. It's not really a term that's used by guitarists that much simply because we haven't needed to set our levels In Sync with anything else before so. If you were a guy who liked your amp at seven you put that at 7:00 every time you like to have five that's what would be. Nowadays with the patches it has a little bit more significance but really more to do with the world of audio engineering. Cause you can't set all the volumes with the faders if you so choose. But you would end up with a mixing board with feeders all over the place which isn't just a aesthetically aggravating scenario it's also much more difficult to adjust volume the further you get away from unity because if you look at a fader the same distance that your movie theater well it's close to unity is ± 3 decimals. That same half an inch at the bottom of the feeder sometimes it's 20 decibels and so if you need to make the small 3/4 decimal changes like you normally have to do trying to do that precisely when you're close to the bottom of the feet around it's not an easy task. So, you would set all your faders to unity gain and then adjust just the input level of each track, so the entire track is that the level that you want before you start mixing or I guess before you start the second phase cause that's the first phase is a static mix which is just purely getting your levels right settings unity

If we didn’t talk about it it’s probably because we didn’t touch it or change it.
