Alan Dershowitz said, mainly in relation to U.S. campuses, but equally applicable here that the presidents of these campuses suddenly discovered free speech on 07 Oct 23
Included in the antisemitic attacks we are enduring is both the minimising of the severity of attacks, and the shaming of Jewish people detailing the language used against us. The chair did this exactly by chastising Alon Casuto when he iterated the disgusting rhetoric we are expected to endure. If she can't tolerate such language, why should we? If we call it highly offensive hate speech, we're told to toughen up, or accused of behaving like victims.
I've lodged multiple formal complaints about antisemitic professors on Sydney University campus over the last 6 years. Never once have they taken action to resolve the issues. And how could they? Nobody wants to mention the causal factors of this mess: 1. Campuses have been entirely subverted by radical leftist academics over the past few decades, and these academics are overwhelmingly anti-Israel. The rot affects academia from top to bottom, including Administrators. 2. Australian universities rely on foreign students, of which many if not most come from muslim countries. Why would a uni protect the minority of Jews when it risks missing out on the huge cash cow that foreign muslim students bring in? So what if those students team up with the radical left to attack Jews and Israelis? The fees they bring in is worth it to the Administrators of any Aussie uni. Call a spade a spade. This is not an issue of legal hurdles preventing unis from taking action. It is a systemic issue that afflicts academia from top to bottom and the only solution is to rebalance the faculty to contain an even spread of conservative and liberal academics, and conditioning student visas on STRICT standards of behaviour.
