The most honest and accurate read for how original Filmation He-Man ended is either the conclusion of the He-Man & She-ra: Secret of The Sword movie, a 90 minute theatrical movie ( the only animated MOTUPOP movie to date on either side of the franchise ), which clearly and smoothly transitioned from a He-Man to a She-ra focus in the exact shared continuity ( when He-Man tells She-ra if she ever needs him to call and they bid emotional farewells, he might just as well have been talking to all of us fans ), OR, it's The He-Man & She-ra Christmas special. I think, taken logically, the Christmas Special OVERWHELMINGLY wins as most fitting and best candidate, not only because it can be chronologically placed fairly late in the combined 217+ episode + movie original He-Man & She-ra run with blatantly notable sequence markers ( Modulok has already left Skeletor's service for Hordak's, Castaspella [ with She-ra and Bow's help ] has already vanquished her former captor Mortella, Flutterina has been introduced etc. ] ), but ALSO, because it has one of the most significant major character developments and growth transitions ever in either series: Skeletor, the most wicked of the villains, has a transformative Spiritual experience in his encounter with the Christmas Spirit, and actually begins to exhibit compassion and goodness. If placed at the very end of the combined He-Man & She-ra series ( which, since they 100% share continuity is how they should always be regarded ), and there really isn't any glaring event contradiction to stop it from being placed there behind Attack on The Hive, it serves as a strong narrative final ( despite the campy issues ), with the long feud between Skeletor and the power twins, He-Man especially, possibly ending with Skeletor beginning to change for the better ( morals wise, not entertainment wise lol ).
You do make a very good argument that the Christmas Special is indeed the "final chapter" of the classic series. You are certainly not the only person who thinks that, too. @@TheBigDaddyDReviews1 Thanks!! I just checked out the review of the Christmas special, it was quite amusing. I was trying to leave a comment, but my slow desktop was being a jerk, so I'll try again later. An fyi for your co-host, She-ra had two seasons ( technically one and a half ) not 1, though I understand the 2nd season only aired in the US, not the UK. It's worth the watch though, even if only for the Sweet Bee's Home episode where Frosta literally spends much of the episode trying to give da booty to He-Man ( and by "da" booty, I do mean hers lol ). The third to last episode of the 2nd season marked the last original era Filmation appearance of both He-Man and Skeletor. For a full rundown of every episode, I strongly recommend James Eatok's He-Man and She-ra the complete episode guide ( it's available from amaz0n online bookstore ): it sadly shortchanges the He-Man & She-ra Secret of the Sword movie in that it doesn't make clear that it was indeed a nationally circulated theatrical film, but the book is still a great episode reference for all 218 episodes of the combined He-Man/She-ra series run. P.S., your Merlin costume is epic. Loved that Excalibur movie.
Would it make sense that Teela would be upset to learn that Adam and He-Man were one in the same? Sure. If she's catching feeling for one half of the dude's identity and he's reciprocating that affection, it would be pretty scummy for him to keep her in the dark about his true identity. However, that was not the case in Revelations. Teela being mad about being left out of a secret is one thing; renouncing her position in the kingdom over it and berating everyone in the throne room (including grieving parents) over this secret is something else entirely. (the only way that hissy fit would have made any sense would be if she did that because she felt her father being exiled for failing to protect Adam was completely unjustified).
Not to mention the secret comes from her Prince, who she works for, who doesn't owe her his secrets. Duncan and Orko were also ordered BY THEIR PRINCE to keep the secret. Teela is completely unbearable throughout the entirety of the show and not just here, though.
@Grumpy Panda Oh, by all means - point out what factors I missed. Because from what I've seen, it was all because she was left out of a secret very few people knew about and those that had known were sworn to secrecy.
@@joshdillon9637 Oh, for sure. Her arrogance even before she threw her hissy fit about being 'lied to' was just hard to listen to. And the fact that arrogance only grew over the years just made her even more insufferable (her one liners are no better than He-Man's '20 something teenager who doesn't get out much' quips). Sarah Michelle Gellar's snotty teenage girl voice just made Teela that much more insufferable (but then, if they were aiming to make Teela an arrogant teenager in a grown woman's body who's high on her own farts, then she was a perfect cast for the role).
@Grumpy Panda The problem is that Teela never addressed that - either the moment when it happened or years after the fact. All Teela was focused on was how 'everyone' lied to her because they knew something she didn't. The injustice that her father was facing - being striped of his title, and banished from the kingdom with the threat of death hanging over his head if he ever stepped foot in the kingdom again - never crossed her mind. It was all about how 'she' was betrayed, how everyone lied 'to her' (Adam being the worst of the bunch). There is nothing remotely grown up/mature about a grown ass woman renouncing her position all because her feelings got hurt. That's not female empowerment, that's misogyny.
You're not the first person to say that, funnily enough. What an odd way to end both He-Man and She-Ra that would be! With Skeletor doing something heroic for once, and Adam getting dressed up as Santa! Perhaps I will cover the Christmas Special in a future episode ...
@@jessev2000 EXACTLY. The original He-Man & She-Ra cartoons should be taken as one massive entity & franchise> He-Man literally continued forward on the She-Ra show. He featured as a major lead alongside She-ra in nearly 20 of the 93 She-ra episodes ( if you include the 5 that were a retread of the movie... & just the movie itself HAS to count as also part of the original He-Man, especially since it's the only movie the animated series ever had [ not ignoring the Langella/Lundgren He-Man, but that wasn't part of the cartoon series ], and it made over triple the production budget AND made more than the now classic original Transformers movie ), with Skeletor featuring in several others that He-Man isn't in. All told, roughly 25% of all the original She-ra cartoon episodes prominently included either He-Man and/or Skeletor. Pretty sure Teela in the 1980's didn't look like she was going to golfclub king Randor and didn't act the way she does now, so this Netflix series isn't a continuation.
I always remembered Teela as being this animal loving druid like character. I have pretty clear memories of her hanging out in some kind of enchanted garden and having a staff as a weapon. The toy certainly comes with a staff but, I don't know that I can trust my memories anymore. But, that was the big problem I had with the new Masters of the Universe cartoon. They seemed to completely change Teela into this other character.
At this point I think the MCU revelation should could be considered its own canon . Since some themes and characters from the new series Revolution are clearly being set as their own real storylines and first time appearances outside the established canon of the 80s
I had the privilege and honor to be one of the first and last original Animators to work on He-Man Masters of the Universe for Filmation Studios which hired me from 1983 to 1985 after leaving Hanna -Barbera Productions which is now owned by Warner Bros. Many of my fellow He-Man animation friends went on to animate for so many different studios including Walt Disney Feature theatricals and for myself, I was hired by the Walt Disney Company TV unit back in 1991 to work for the Mickey Mouse Studio as their overseas animation supervisor to be produced in Soul Korea on the TV show named " Bonkers the Bob Cat, Goof Troop, and Darkwing Duck a job for 2 years. I gotta say growing up 80s Teela was a total bad ass. I admired her and thought she was legit gorgeous, super brave, smart and a freaking hero. Hell, Sorceress and Evil Lynn were awesome too.
Exactly! Teela was always one of the main characters - and was featured in most of the episodes. She even had a number of episodes focusing entirely on her.
I grew up watching the classic He-Man and She-Ra cartoons. I had the toys and still holds a warm spot for this older guy. My children have even enjoyed the cartoons as well. So thank you for doing this video.

It wasn't until fairly recently I noticed just how much of the average run-time of the original is made up of stock animations. It's rare to find an episode that doesn't have He-Man running down that cavernous corridor or He-Man picking up and throwing a large rock.
And seeing animation from previous episodes being reused too! But hey, I suppose that Filmation had a limited budget and had to make the most of it! th-cam.com/video/PrpiuFfd3JQ/w-d-xo.html BTW, for my latest He-Man video, I've put together an in-depth look and review of the first-ever episode, Diamond Ray of Disappearance. The Netflix version isn't a continuation at all as advertised. 80'sTeela would never act like like this and much of the characters and interaction act as though they're being introduced instead of being familiar with one another. Mermans the biggest example.
Yes, Teela would never act the way she does in Revalations as she did in the show as she had no character. She was literally the token female. Seriously, that was her sole purpose of being in the show. Go watch Spector Creative's videos. He was on the literal team that created some of the He-man characters for Mattel. The Teela toy was simply a retooled Evi-lyn model added because the good guys needed a girl character that the potential female buyers could identify with. This implication of "I'm a big fan of the original," has the exact same energy as the people who bashed She-hulk as a "woke" invention of a gender inverted Hulk meant to speak to women. They were huge fans of the Hulk yet were completely unaware that the character has a 40+ year publication history and was created simply as a way to copyright protect a female Hulk from DC. I'm I only saw a few episodes of the cartoon and mostly read the comic where Teeela had an actual personality aside from "token girl" and what you say is only technically correct as it completely ignores the context of her acting the way she did in the 80s cartoon. The invention of She-hulk is literally the exact reason that Circuit Breaker, which Marvel invented for the Transformers comic, showed up on a single page between dimensions where she spoke to The Beyonder as means for Marvel to copyright the character in case they lost the license and she would become in the ownership of Hasbro.
He-man carrying Teela off towards the sunset reminded me of the ending of Conan the Barbarian(original film). He-man: LET THE POWER, RETURN! (Drops sword of power into a chasm) Me: Bruh we could have just returned the sword to Greyskull. You're making damn sure that if you can't wield it no one can, let's go to a pub for a pint. First rounds on me.
@@TheBigDaddyDReviews1 Honestly Netflix has been ruining the MOTU franchise way before Masters of the Universe Revelations. That Bitch Noelle Stevenson stuffed the recent She-Ra series full of Feminist and LGBTQ propaganda BS and she promoted an abusive relationship in a show allegedly aimed at children.
Nobody wants new adventures to be anywhere near the cannon. They did try to tie it into the 4th season of the 200x story, which I'm glad ended before then. It would still have been cool to see He-Man vs the horde in the third season that never happened.
Yes, it was a shame that we never got that third season of the 200X series. I take it that you're not a fan of the New Adventures of He-Man? It does seem like it is the black sheep of the animated He-Man franchise. Maybe I should do a future video on it.
Actually, for MYP series there were no plans for 4th season. This was confirmed by comic creators in 2007 who worked closely with cartoon folk. There are only plans that 200x creators had for season 3. Nowhere have 200x creators stated they were going into NA territory. There is actually interview online still, where in 2005 they stated they wanted to keep things on Eternia. As fans DID ask why they didn’t venture to space. You may be referring to Spector. Who made up his own story for classics (2008). In THAT new story. He added the idea of He-Man going to space. The point was to mishmash many conitinuities and canons. And well…. It became the mess of a story it is (Mattel themselves even ignored classics narrative. And made totally different comic stories in 2012-2016.)
Very good explanation, and interesting how you tried the 2000 version in to the timeline. There is something that you missed though which may not contradict your research but should be addressed. He-man was a recurring character in quite a few episodes of She-ra, Starting with the Secret of the Sword (pilot movie) and ending (if I remember correctly) with the Christmas Special. He-man and Skeletor continued there battle, with team ups with She-ra and Hordak and even Horde Prime. While the case can be made for the Problem with Power taking place after She-ra, She-ra did continue following He-man's ending.
Wow man you just blew my mind! With the 2000x series being the Prequel, this finally creates some kind of a storyline..🤯😍. Thanks man, continue your great work👍
I wonder where all the He-man crossovers with She-Ra fit into this timeliness. "Problem with Power" does feel like a natural end point, but the it continues on with She-Ra and the Christmas Special.
Why did Kevin lie and miss lead people? People would like it if he had only been open about it. He was still lying about season 2/2nd half however he is not being truthful about it. He also did monk people. Why do you guys think he did it? But it is a good what-if show, The idea of what would happen without he-man. However, they should build up to it build up people/story in p2.
@@powermasterjazz lack of confidence? I doubt that. Every directors feel what they are making will be a revelation (poor pun intended). That's like saying MGS2, Kojima hid Raiden because he didn't feel confident in the character. He did it as a twist and for the purpose of the story and theme. He didn't know Raiden would be bashed so hard in the US before he managed to somewhat flipped it around with MGS4
Why are kids such snowflakes these days?? Waaaa Kevin lied to me 🙈🤣🤣🤣🤣 Smith didn't lie. You kids want one thing but it's the other. That's all. Chill out boys.
I think it's more than waaaah. Perhaps us "fan boys" after waiting so long, actually wanted a He-Man based show. I would have been cool with it all had Smith been honest and said it was a series about Teela. I'm an 80s kid and Teela was kickass!! A show based around her was a great idea. And the series was pretty good. But it was a dishonest trick and not what the hard core fans were pied pipered into expecting. It was the bait and switch, dishonesty and using our love against us that got backs up. Stop being so simplistic. I guess if you weren't there, you just don't get it 😮💨
Thank you so much … I was only 6 years old and I usto going crazy for He Man ! I was driving my Dad crazy every time he was going for a job trip !!! I was always waiting with a new He man toy character. In the end my Mum : throw all my toy collection away !!! Because she was thinking that would inspire violence in me 🙃😔🤣😂🤣 I had both castles 🏰 and almost al the toy characters, I have to say many of them had the legs glued back on . Because the legs had a rubber string inside which after many days playing they would brake apart !
Back in the 80s I had one episode taped which I watched over and over, where he-man's sword was merged with another sword (which could talk) from some sort of necropolis on the dark side of Eternia. In the new series the sword is split up but the talking sword isn't one of the pieces which seems like a continuity error. As for New Adventure's I guess it tells us that He-man won't stay dead, he has a son and his parents some how forget Adam is He-man.
That's from "Masks of Power," where He-man and co. Discover the "Sword of the Ancients," under Snake Mountain, after two new characters get possessed by a pair of haunted masks in their quest for power, before learning the error of their ways and choosing the side of good.

Thanks, Big Daddy D! I was skeptical the first time KS said "It picks up right where Filmation left off!" for the same reasons you mentioned. (Also, I totally agree, 200x IS the best version of the franchise. ;)
I love this show haha. I didn’t grow up with the show (I’m 14 years old), but I was surprised seeing that the Secret of the Sword movie came after. I didn’t realize it was a prequel (as a late introduction of the events before the show). I’d always assumed the movie came first, then was syndicated into its 5 episodes. It’s not as if the plot of the show is hard to follow, but I imagine it was strange for the it to just jump in without context. The same year that movie came out, She-ra got her own show too! Love the video!

Diamond Ray of Disappearance is the actual pilot episode. This episode is the first one in the BCI Collection and the creators of the series confirmed it in the documentary episode in the special features.
Not only that, but if you watch the Diamond Ray of Disappearance, you can see that it's very clear that the show is establishing its characters (especially on Skeletor's end of things, where he literally explains what each of his minions specialize in).

If you look at the continuity beyond the series, I think the last appearance of He-Man and Skeletor was in the November 1987 episode of She Ra: "Assault on the Hive" which was nearly two years after the Christmas special.
WOW. To think 2000X is a prequel. 🤯 I mean, Two-Bad even has an origin story in 2000X, I think Fisto does too, and Buzz Off joins the team later on in the series but not in the beginning.
The BEST version of MOTU was the original 4 Alfredo Alcala mini-books that came with the first toys in '81. Had they stayed with that theme, mood, and storyline.. AND without FILMATION making the cartoon, it could've gotten as big as Star Wars.
It's the special that brought us such well-known lines as "I am not nice!" and "I don't feel to feel good, I like to feel evil!". Maybe I should do a review of the Christmas Special when we get nearer to the festive season??
As well it should have been. The last true episode of original He-Man was the last appearance he made on the literal sister show She-ra. He-Man and/or Skeletor play a major role in roughly 25% of the total episodes of the original She-ra show. My fave is the one where Frosty keeps basically offering ass to He-Man lol.
King Hss is revealed to be imprisoned with light in his Cell that prevents him from regrowing his 'main' head back. This is revealed in a script& storyboard extra found in the 2002 Heman DVD set( or part 3 of the set).
@@LowellLucasJr. Well, never heard something about that. In the 200X series it was just said he would regenerate with the help of Serpos, who was turned back into Snake Mountain at the end. Also, much of what the 2002 story was covered by DC comics thanks to Spector Creative, who was behind the direction of what would happend after King Hss, Hordak, He-ro and much more. It would have been awesome if they had the Filmation look rights so they could have continued on with it looking similar but with updated animation and effects technology
I'd remembered the 200× series. It was actually pretty good. It explored detail beginnings of Skeletor, being related to King Randor; they were brothers, who even knew?! Then the story of Man-at-Arms was the brother of Fisto, man, that blew my mind right there! Also, Evil-Lynn and Skeleton were lovers! So, it makes some sense of it all about family, power, jealousy and down right tyranny. I miss this series, truly. Yeah, Kevin Smith's version was indeed a let down, although he lied to us and end up dong something different, he should've kept it real. Thanks, man for your thoughts on this old school trip down memory lane!

Revelation is not a direct sequel to the Filmation show - it is a spiritual continuation of the brand overall. It does take cues from Filmation, 200x, Classics, Mini Comics and more to build its own NEW continuity.
Too bad they marketed as a sequel, only to flip around at release and then state what you just said. The problem is that Kevin Smith lied to the audience on multiple occasions and then proceeded to save his ass now that Mattel has to deal with bad toy sales.
I pretty much agree with everything you said except about the 2002 series being a prequel. Some episodes work but Man E Faces got an origin episode in the eighties but is already a Master in 2002. I do think that the 2002 version has much better characterisation and is more consistent with Revelations though. If you could pick 10 or so key episodes of the eighties show to tack onto the end of the 2002 version, as a lead up to Revelations, I'd certainly consider rewatching them.
The 200X was a soft reboot. It kept the tone and feel of what you knew, but expanded on the lore. Sadly it ended before the invasion of the Horde, and the New Adventures were supposed to be re-done after that. (Thank God we didn't get that far with it) Revelations, IMO has nothing to do with any of it. Teela was on the way to being Sorceress (fun fact Man-at-Arms was supposed to become a Snake Man for good in the 200x series so he could build vehicles for the Snake Men (always thinking of the toys first), and the Sorceress was going to die in the third season bringing Teela to her rightful mantle.) In all honesty, if you want a GREAT continuation to conclusion to the series, MotU comics by DC in the late 2010's picked up the torch and ran with it. Took it to a fantastic conclusion. This is how I'll remember He-Man and the MotU.
Why was Teela mad at the King when it was the queen who did lie as the king kicks the people out who did lie? Why was there no one at Greyskull as they make note it a crime to go there yet not 1 guard they just walk in the front door which is open? Teela was the strongest of all the people in the kingdom way more than adam, I wonder if we will see the cost of her leaving.
So you enjoyed a He-Man cartoon...... With no He-Man in it, I heard they are releasing a teenage mutant ninja turtle cartoon with no turtles in it so that's something for you to look forward to pffff. Also Kevin Smith out and out lied, a whistle blower said they kill He-Man off and Smith said "He-Man is still the main character of the cartoon" I hate liars. I'm glad it bombed, Netflix have said the response and viewership has been "disappointing". funny how the show deals a lot with Teela feeling angry because she was lied to then Smith says he "doesn't get the backlash".
@@thatsjustlikeyouropinionma3025 That turtles thing is new to me. I would have to see the reboot/update version to formulate and opinion. As for he man, I love the animation. I am curious to see what direction the story goes...

I don't care about the whole SJW thing they could have had man at arms or Ram man as the lead character it's still ridiculous to have a He-Man cartoon without He-Man in the vast majority of them. Really dig that you showed a way to head cannon a connection from 200X to filmation. This actually really encourages me to pick back up the 200X series since if it connects well enough to filmation it should continue on to revelation letting it all connect. I know there are some continuity breaks, but it seems close enough to me. I guess i also need to look up the new adventures sometime!
Yes, I really do need to do a video on New Adventures. Before Revelation came along, this series was sort of seen as the black sheep of the He-Man cartoon series.
@@TheBigDaddyDReviews1 New Adventures really shouldn't be considered a black sheep. Filmation did the best they could after that fire which destroyed all their stock footage in their vault. There were no deaths and everyone was away, so there were no headlines.
One of the Writer of Master of the universe clasics is in you tube and he liked revelations, he has no problems answering questions ... now that you explain it like that... I hate revelations even more
The new show has definitely divided the MOTU fan base. I really don't think that it is as bad as what a lot of people are making it out to be, but there are a few points where it could have been a lot better. I feel that Teela's motivations could have been written to be more clearer, she does come across as whiny and cold hearted and it took a couple of episodes for me to warm to her. I also feel that this could have been marketed better to make it clearer that this is Teela's adventure, not He-Man's!
@@TheBigDaddyDReviews1 MotU was branded as a He-Man line since the 80's. If you took Barbie, killed her off and made Ken the show runner, you better expect the backlash. MotU is an ensemble cast, yes, but the power sword belongs to one person, that's why people don't want anything to do with it. Teela's arc would have made a great story, if she were likeable, but she's not. She loves Adam, and wants to know why he didn't tell her. She's just proving that she was never worthy of the truth to begin with. (again, which could be a great story arc) The story just isn't being told well. The Randor / Duncan thing is so unbelievable it hurts my brain to think about.
Kevin Smith hates He-Man, as he stated manny times. But all of a sudden a company wants to pay him to make more, and suddenly he loves it….. just ignore the rest. There is no way he even knows, the 200X series or the new adventures, exists.

@@mamunestor How is saying that "it wasn't for me" means that he hates it? I think you're reading too much into that. As a child I didn't watch Jem and the Holograms because it wasn't really for me. That doesn't mean that I hated it.

They take the joie de vivre out of those old shows so it can match up with the current Hollywood climate! It's funny because they think they're being progressive + see shows like this as a breakthrough, when they're no different to the old male-dominated shows. But why pick on MOTU? Even some modern, female fans, too young to remember the original show, have said that the female empowerment politics are forced! And with all due respect, do you even know what masculinity is? Just the fact that they used He-Man's name to bait the fans + then sideline him to push yet another example of an omnipotent 'independent' female speaks volumes. Even though I believe it was released about mid way thru the run, my head canon had the final episode of the original series as "Evilseed", where He-Man and Skeletor are both faced with an enemy that neither can challenge on their own. After agreeing to work together, Skeletor's attitude remains hostile, but the dynamic of their relationship had changed from purely antagonistic to mutually respectful. Would have been a nice capper to leave the show with the possibility that its greatest villain could be redeemed and was worthy of said redemption.

@@TheBigDaddyDReviews1 I read on the dedicated wiki that the design from the 2002 show was an unused design for He-Man himself. But why this change of design ? Well... might have an idea... but not sure I should say it. And I like both design, and I had actually not seen the 2002 before seeing the Netflix one, so I did not know before seeing it. I liked it, but then I saw the 2002... also liked it, but then it gives another perspective to it.
@@TheBigDaddyDReviews1 also, I just rewatched the episode today (the one from the Netflix show in which first Grayskull appears) and something I don't understand : there is a woman there, maybe she was a champion, ok, no problem with that, but... we don't understand what she says. When you put subtitles it says she speaks a primitive language, but Grayskull, who was the first one, we perfectly understand him, no one has any problem understanding him, why? Why would someone who came after him, the woman, speak a more primitive language than him? That was weird
Never knew about the theory of the 2000 MOTU series as a prequel to the 1980s series. Gives one much thought. And Orko was definitely inspired by Bat-Mite from the 1970s Batman cartoon.
2002 series does establish that the elder gods separated the planet into light and dark dimensions, separated by a wall. Skeletor breached the barrier along with his minions and quickly seals it. This is because skeletor is selfish. This is the reason why the masters don't eliminate skeletor because they are able to deal with him. King hiss was very easily able to get rid of skeletor and nearly took over eternia. Hordak was trapped in dark dimension and when skeletor was dying he wished for a price, which the dying keldor agreed. However skeletor had no intention to keep his word and he actively prevented hordaks return. Skeletor loosing and king hiss defeated, hordak finally could have been able to beach the barrier along with his minions.
I don't consider the Netflix series to be canon for a few reasons. First of all, many of the characters act completely out of character to how they were in the original. Second, the need to focus the show on Teela shouldn't exist if the creator knew anything about the source material (Kevin Smith has gone on record to say that he didn't know anything about He-Man going into this, and just claimed he did in order to get the job; future production companies, beware of this person). And finally (though this isn't necessarily their fault, but it is the most important reason), She-Ra isn't mentioned at all, even though she's He-Man's sister, and Hordak and Horde Prime are known threats to the universe and have directly attacked Eternia. For a new series to be canon, ALL of this would have to be acknowledged and be actively involved in any kind of continuation. If it isn't, then this can't possibly be canon, regardless of what Kevin Smith or Mattel claim. If they claim this is canon, then they don't know He-Man.
They stated further down development that Revelations is not longer a direct continuation - one reason is that the right to the cartoon series in not in Matels possession and they are not allowed to do what they planned at first.
Frankly, no new He-Man show that ignores She-ra's existence is canon to me, and no She-ra show that, like Hordak, tries to make everyone forget that she has an epic TWIN brother, can be cannon either. Hopefully, once NBCUniversal/Dreamworks have ALL the rights in 2023 ( currently they only have rights to the Filmation content, while Mattel only has rights to content based on the toys ) we will finally get PROPER continuation of the greater, unified He-Man & She-ra mythology.
@@peterullinger2814 for reasons no one really explains, Mattel has done a pisspoor job of exercising their rights to She-ra... they don't have to use Filmation content for her, their own 1984 minicomic, The Story of She-ra ( He-Man.org has images of the whole book ), which they packaged with the original She-ra toy, predates the release of the Filmation He-Man & She-ra movie & of the subsequent She-ra cartoon, and it already establishes her as He-Man's sister ( which she was pretty much from the start of her character conception ) and the Hordak abduction.
Kevin Smith and Netflix use of "continuation of the 80's cartoon" royally backfired on them. In reality it was shorthand for not putting the effort in to reestablish who's who in the universe. It would be like doing a batman movie and saying we all know how his parents died for his origin story so we are not doing it over again. Likewise Netflix assumes we all know who all the characters are so enjoy the reboot. And thus people were sold Filmation and got mad over the false advertising. If this had been sold as the alternate continuity that it is - both legally and spiritually - the fan reaction would have been vastly less negative I think.
i dunno, i never watched the original he man and i found the new series pretty easy to keep up with charicter wise and enjoyed it. I think people just like to yell when things don't match their expectations entirely and things like this never will.
@@shanavalkyria3438 Revelation is a spit to the face to any original He-Man fans, of course they're going to be mad. They made teela a completely unlikeable *B*, used the overused tactics of bait and switch to lure the fans into thinking this is a story about prince Adam, insulting the original fans by calling them - ists and - phobes, race swapping characters for no particular reason exept pushing an agenda... Come on, I'm sure you can at least understand where most he-man fans are coming from.
Good video---oddly enough I was an avid fan of the original series as a kid and I never knew which episode was the last---makes sense since the series did not have a definitive or memorable send off, its end being as convoluted as its beginning
The reason the series never had a proper ending is because Filmation (the company that produced the cartoon) was bought out by L'Oreal, and they literally fired the entire staff in one day. Members of the production team would later say in interviews that they 'just walked in one day and told us to put down our pencils and get out'. Apparently this was one day before a law would be passed requiring sixty days' notice before a mass termination.

Didn’t even know about the 200x version of the show. Too bad, the animation looked a lot better than the Netflix version. Would have been nice if they showed the final scene of the final episode where the Netflix version picked off from. I was confused where this version is in the timeline. I don’t mind the plot, the show’s not titled He-Man anyway. But I expected the series to have a deeper storyline than that, especially because they were so proud Kevin Smith was behind it. It seemed like it’s confused between a children’s cartoon and a PG-rated cartoon. 🤷🏽♂️
It really was! And now, myself and my friend Luke have reviewed the He-Man & She-Ra Christmas Special for the channel! Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/J72N2cOXHPM/w-d-xo.html
To be honest, when I watched it as a girl in the 90s. He-man and the masters of the universe was actually reworked into a continuity that made more sense. Granted, I was watching it in Cartoon Network back when Cartoon Network played the old shows and had cartoons actually worth watching. But they had reworked it into a series that made sense with The Problem with power as the final show episode. In fact, I watched the 2000x show and the original show after in Boomerang, again back when Boomerang was also worth watching and they actually made sense like they fit together and were showing a real continuity to the show which was actually the intent in the first place. I know they said that it was both a reboot of the show and also a prequel but I actually understood the reasoning. The 80s show had almost no background where the 2000x show actually fleshed out the series into what would be a compelling story today with well fleshed out characters. They stayed true to the source but rebooted it to being a fleshed-out tale instead of a long toy advertisement like the 80s show, while still being tied to the 80s show
I thought New Adventures is not considered canon? (And thanks for the great explanation, when K. Smith said it was a direct sequel, I was like, sequel to what story exactly lol).

Oh yes, the animation style is quite different in the 200X Series. Back in the 80s they never jumped 70 feet up in the air whilst twirling their weapons around! (Oo-er missus!)
So happy to hear someone else give the 2000's He-Man some appreciation!

Nothing beats the original soundtrack...that main theme is epic, even today.
It's great, isn't it??

I think the She-Ra theme is better.
Yeah. Teela's actions are that of a spoiled child, not a "strong female character."
The OG He Man series ended with the Christmas Special with She Ra as well
You're not the first person to say that, funnily enough. What an odd way to end both He-Man and She-Ra that would be! With Skeletor doing something heroic for once, and Adam getting dressed up as Santa! Perhaps I will cover the Christmas Special in a future episode ...

FOR ME JUST THE ORIGINAL HE-MAN IS THE REAL ONE
The 2003 version of He-Man was fantastic..
He-man carrying Teela off towards the sunset reminded me of the ending of Conan the Barbarian(original film).

We saw He-Man versus the Horde. There was a whole movie about it, where he discovered his twin sister She-ra.
And made totally different comic stories in 2012-2016.)
not having a proper final episode was the main thing that bugged me about a lot of 80s series, they just kind of...stop:(
Yep, same here!
Y'all understand that majority of the '80s cartoons were commercialized, to sell toys; merchandise.
Yeah, 200x was a soft reboot. Keeping what you knew and expanding the lore. It's not a continuation of the 80's by any stretch.
@@317Chris - I disagree, it was really more of a prequel...

He didn't know Raiden would be bashed so hard in the US before he managed to somewhat flipped it around with MGS4

A show based around her was a great idea. And the series was pretty good. But it was a dishonest trick and not what the hard core fans were pied pipered into expecting.

AND without FILMATION making the cartoon, it could've gotten as big as Star Wars.

part 1 was meh, but part 2 was fantastic. well worth the watch.
Based on the Wikipedia entry on MOTU: Revelation, The New Adventures of He-Man was ignored.

@@317Chris the story arc planned in 2002 looked amazing. If they had stuck it out, I think it's popularity would have snowballed over time.

I don't care about the whole SJW thing they could have had man at arms or Ram man as the lead character it's still ridiculous to have a He-Man cartoon without He-Man in the vast majority of them.

Sure! I would like to see more about Masters of the Universe
In that case, please do go and check out my Playlist of He-Man related videos!

When will they do a movie I remember He-Man in the 1980s I was 11 years old then
The 80s He-man Christmas special was amazing
It was indeed, I'm going to have to do a future video on that very soon!
It really was! And now, myself and my friend Luke have reviewed the He-Man & She-Ra Christmas Special for the channel! Check it out here:

This was awesome and helpful; thank you!
You're very welcome!
Indeed, this is what led to this video being made. What was the end point of the original MOTU series that Revelation is apparently following on from? I'll have a follow-on video ready for this weekend where I'll talk about in more detail what I liked and didn't like about Revelation, so make sure you're subscribed in order to be notified when it goes live!
@@TheBigDaddyDReviews1 I was one of the vocal fews who had faith in the project before it was released, even with the supposed "bait and switch"... I am all on board with the Teela's journey thing but I really didn't like the writing very much, and Teela's journey really didn't have to come at the cost of He-Man. It is not a dichotomy! I suspect Part 2 will have more He-Man in it but we will see how that goes.
@@zenithquasar9623 I too had high hopes for the series. Seen all 5 eps. and was not impressed; especially the voice talent. Animation, great but still, the characterization was off for all characters except Skeletor.
@@wiglafsfilms8418 Evil Lyn wasn't terrible which I care a lot about but I agree.
Finally did a video on the New Adventures of He-Man! Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/qiNUPWjyZOQ/w-d-xo.html
I really like this video and love how everything tied in with each other
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.
He Man was my favorite cartoon in the 80s. I had the toys and they were original and fun. I always wondered why there never was a He Man and Thundercats crossover. A nice made for TV movie would’ve been great.
There has been a comic book crossover series which was rather good, maybe I'll cover that in a future video?

Yes I would adore more He-Man videos!!!! Or even She-Ra!!!
Thank you Xander, I have another He-Man video scheduled for this weekend. So be sure to be subscribed to the channel and click the notification bell so that you'll be one of the first to see it!
TheBigDaddyDReviews1 you’re welcome. And awesome!!!! I will be sure to do that:)
So you wanted more He-Man and even some She-Ra? Well how about the He-Man & She-Ra Christmas Special? Check out our review here:

@@TheBigDaddyDReviews1 alright I’ll check that out! Thanks! Also Merry Christmas:)
The last episode, He-Man jumped out into the Ocean, a tentacle grabbed him...
and that was it.
Erm ... Which one was that??
Love your theory of the 200x being a prequel leading into the classic
I don’t except Kevin smiths show
Great analysis of the series!
Thank you very much!
Yes I like to see more of He-Man and a master of the universe
YES ! MORE OF THAT!
I think just like U! I connect them all! The early 2000 as the beginning explaining things & even the Kevin Smith I connect as wht happens next!
I would like for you to do more documentaries of the classic series He-man I really would appreciate it thank you.
Thanks Vincent, I'll certainly look into creating more He-Man related content soon for this channel. The response to the two He-Man videos I've made so far has been huge.
How about one on the He-Man & She-Ra Christmas Special?

Vincent, I finally did a video on the New Adventures of He-Man! Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/qiNUPWjyZOQ/w-d-xo.html
Personally, I feel that anything He Man animation related looks odd without the stiff animation.
Oh yes, the animation style is quite different in the 200X Series. Back in the 80s they never jumped 70 feet up in the air whilst twirling their weapons around! (Oo-er missus!)
