I tell you a bit about my background, and what I was up to in my youth.

As you may have figured, I'm more of a Genesis guy :-)
The advent of Punk was the moment when Prog was killed off by the Music Press. "Going for the One" was produced at the same moment of "Never Mind the Bollocks" and the bollocks they were taking about was Yes and the evil hoards of the Prog Rock musicians. I won't list the twats that thought Punk was music; we all know who they were. But they began a campaign to destroy ELP, Yes, and Genesis. Yet despite it all prog has survived in to the next century, and shall be remembered.

I have made about 40 videos about other artists and their work. This time I'm aiming the light on myself, which was scary, to say the least. I hope you'll find the video interesting!
Thanks for posting this video Johan. Relly great and very interesting. I'm sorry to say, but I arrived a little bit too late in Uppsala, in the mid 80's, hence I never saw Sheik Ahmeed live. I, however, bought the last single with Sheik Ahmeed (the Mark 4 line up I guess?), and moreover, I used to play Chess with Simon (he called it "kliva gubbe"), so he told me a huge number of stories of the band.

Its one of the best and more important (if not the one) prog bands in spanish. Its amazing and full of incredible sounds, you don't have nothing to lose.
I recomend you to listen their second and last album: 'Películas'

Try to be short. My #1 all time music is Genesis up to Duke, with a neat difference to the rest. They are the absolute best uniting complexity (melodic and rhythmic) with beauty. Beauty for me is the single most important characteristic of music.
#2 (though not prog) are The Beatles: the next biggest amount of musical beauty.
Then, I love Van der Graaf Generator, Yes, King Crimson up to Red and others.
The snippets from Sheik Ahmeed I've heard in these your 2 videos sound quite pleasant to me (I'd need many more listenings to tell and appreciate). As an observation, they quite resemble Genesis' to me. Some part of them, I could even tell which part of which Genesis song.
Thanks for your input, Hammillian7! Yes, the Sheik Ahmeed snippets do have a flavor of Genesis in them. Genesis were my single largest influence in my youth. Also, I grew up on Beatles. And I agree about music and beauty.
Agreed. There is something about Genesis that other Prog... Does not have. I think it's heart and emotion and melody. That's not to say rush and yes don't because I love rush and I love yes. Genesis doesn't seem to try to be clever. I think they stumble upon it accidentally. The song turn it on again comes to mind. Mike thought he was writing a straight 4/4 only to find out he wrote a 13/8. I love Rick wakeman on keyboard he can flash around very nicely, but there's something about Tony Banks solos that nobody can beat. I think it's melody. Look at the way Cinema show builds up to that grand melodic phrase. Yep Genesis like you mentioned and then of course the Beatles
I too had a tough childhood. Add that to the fact that I'm an Aspie and you get a recipe for failure. Especially being that I have dealt with some level of depression for the majority of my adult life. I get what you're saying about wanting to create the "greatest prog band ever". That said, I'm not sure that there is one. When master class musicians come together, they create something magical. This magical sound might sound different from band to band, but it's no less magical.

Are you any relation to Simon Steensland?
Yes, they are three brothers, Simon is the oldest brother, I belive Johan is two years younger, and Anton is the youngest brother. They are all genius in different ways, both as musicians as well as personalities.
And Simon played drums in Sheik Ahmeed (the mark 3 and mark 4 line up), the all times greatest prog band.

I agree with you on KC, their best stuff is amazing. But they made a lot of music that doesn't do it for me.
