@anomie nous I completely agree with 99% of the above, I've always wondered though how does the subconscious play into dreams, some people I have spoken to and I myself have had experiences with "Warnings" in dreams and "Almost premonitions", my theory is that the subconscious (sometimes) primes us for what it perceives as the most probable set of events to unfold with the stimulus it has received in days prior, perhaps it is even information your subconscious picked up on and "stored away" and your more thoughtful "system 2" (coined by Daniel Kahneman) then pieced that information together during a dream into said probable set of events, the only part of your statement above I disagree with is the way in which you worded it, "Meaning" is arguably subjective, where you may find no "meaning" I may disagree, just a tad on the nihilistic side there pal.

2:13 “Look to the stars, Let hope burn in your eyes, And we’ll love and we’ll hate and we’ll die, All to no avail! ALL TO NO AVAIL!!!” Muse is in a category all their own.
people say that the video is shitty yet they dont get the meaning. Knowing that Muse have a meaning for everything they should know that this video was meant for exactly what the title says. People who suffer from Stockholm Syndrome see their surroundings in a different way as they don't want to see the reality. In this video the images they portray with the thermal camera are not a reality. Then the background beatings and the words prisoner, captured, and fuck all add up to the Syndromes meaning. Its just awesome how Muse portray all these things in just one song and video. They really are the best.
CruciatusVXS Exacly they sympathize with their captor and they block all their outside surroundings they only focus on the captor and that is how that emotional bond starts because they tell themselves something else rather that reality.
***** true, except for "they tell themselves". stockholm syndrome is a mental coping/survival mechanism. one doesn't decide or tells him/herself anything, as the conscious layer and thoughts around the given condition, stems from the subconscius. When the same person, or group of ppl, who is forcing and abusing the victim- are also the ones to feed, bath, decide when he sees sunlight, and keep him alive in all aspects- in other words, when reality surpasses all nightmares, and your attacker is also your only guardian and beam of hope, this is very likely to happen. especially when pre-intended [like in the case of captive soldiers]. Everyone has a breaking point.
This song during their first ever concert in Peru, 2019, accounted for the top peak moment of *all of my life.* Literal peak moment I'm not even exaggerating. It was ...gargantuan.
We didn't need a thermal camera to see that the song is fire

I’m a new fan of Muse (I discovered them last week), so I’ve only heard their singles, and this one is definitely my favorite. It’s so dark and aggressive, but sad and beautiful at the same time… It is such a masterpiece. I don’t understand why it has only 8,8 million views. Which other song of these guys would you recommend to me? Not singles, please.
EDIT: Guys, it's been 6 years since I posted this comment. At this point I've already listened to most of Muse's tracks and albums, so please stop replying 😆
new born, uprising, and hysteria for sure
reapers, sunburn, falling down, soldier's poem, psycho, starlight, butterflies and hurricanes, just listen to all of them lmao. I highly recommend the live albums too!
Unintended was the first single I heard then plug in baby after that new born , bliss , hysteria, uprising ps give knights of cydonia your ears 😀the live version

The most talented 3 man band since Rush!!!!!!
I was lucky enough to see them in Houston before all the covid issues. They played stockholm syndrome, the song that drew me into them. I was so glad to hear my favorite song. I'm looking forward to seeing them again next year!
ERRA just covered this song and it's absolutely sick.

4:38 simply the heaviest of all
Idk if it's the thermal vomit or the build up to the dream pop sweep release.. but I can't stop watching this
2:13 “Look to the stars,
Let hope burn in your eyes,
And we’ll love and we’ll hate and we’ll die,
All to no avail!
ALL TO NO AVAIL!!!”
Muse is in a category all their own.
people say that the video is shitty yet they dont get the meaning.
Um... Stockholm Syndrome is when you're taken hostage and start to sympathise with the criminal if he doesn't harm you.
Guess who else is the best? Me cause I'm your 50th like ;)
What a beautiful song!
Its melody and harmonic construction move me.
This was my introduction to Muse. I saw this video playing halfway on VH1. I was blown away! That was way back in 2009!
That's how a predator sees a Music Video
lol
Wouldn't be surprised if MUSE was huge on his planet too.
Well...you can't really see heat in a video...
if it riffs, we can sing it
Haelium9000 "certain death" fatality
A "full Melancholy Frenzy", That define my favorite song.
In 1.75 :')
This song during their first ever concert in Peru, 2019, accounted for the top peak moment of *all of my life.*
Literal peak moment I'm not even exaggerating. It was ...gargantuan.
I was a 1D fan and I didn't come here by accident.
Cause I'm into Muse now
4:36 - 4:54 best head banging moment in all of music.
Clearly you have never heard "We're in this together" by nine inch nails.
Clearly you have never heard Domination by Pantera.
Yeah my head literally bang, spot on
