I did work as a mover all over Charleston including the governors mansion and the old naval hospital (it's high end apartments) I was in the blue and pink rainbow row house. There is tunnels underneath near the old cistern in the basement. It was the original street level from my understanding. You can see this in a lot of the old homes. Entire windows that just look to bricked up passages. Even some bits of sidewalk. I moved away about 10 years ago and miss it every day.
Not sure if there's any open tunnels today, but I have been under a few of the buildings there and seen the filled in entrances. What's under the Blind Tiger?
Enslaved were not illiterate. They just couldn’t read or speak European language but they learned. Europeans never learned our language or read it so who was illiterate?
Can you find any records of those slave ships they claim came to charleston SC and any slaves that were on them? I’m from charleston SC and we don’t know any slaves. We only know sharecroppers. No history of slavery so we would like to know who were slaves and where are the boats.
There are many thorough records available. Maybe check the downtown library or the Fireproof building if you want to see some of the original documents. What do you mean "no history of slavery"? Slavery was stain on American history, but very well documented and not remotely up for debate whether it was real or not
