Doug, you have to remember that the lm002 was designed to try and replace the jeep for the us military, it was competing against the Humvee and land rover, so most of the quirks were made specifically for military purposes. The battery switch was to save the battery is times of war, and was an effort to keep the enemy from hotwiring your truck and driving away, the ignition placement was to keep them from taking the keys, there was a tool that came with it for the fuel door, the pedals were made heavy to account for the heavy military grade boots the driver would be wearing, the radio wasn't supposed to be a radio, but instead a cb radio for communications, and it just so happens that that is where they are mounted, everything in the lm002 was designed for military purpose

PCMasterRace seeing as they made these between 1982-1986. I would say a Hummer has this frame. Hummer may have been done better but the lm002 is way older.
Short story: The LM001 Cheetah was developed by Lamborghini to be the replacement for the aging Jeep in the US military. Unfortunately they lost to the AM General Humvee. Instead of scrapping the car, Lamborghini made it into a luxury SUV called LM002. That's why there are seats in the rear and all the capabilities you see there :) Had Lamborghini scored the contract, they'd never have gone bankrupt. Unfortunately, LM001 took Lamborghini to bankruptcy and they also consequently withdrew from the BMW M1 project
The Jeep replacement from Lamborghini actually dated back to the LM001 Cheetah. The LM002 was instead a revision of the original prototype. Reason why it was turned into an SUV? The Cheetah took Lamborghini to Bankruptcy (and its consequence of its withdrawal from the BMW M1 development)
76 gallon tank? I would really like to fill up in New Jersey and see the pump attendant's face when the pump just keeps going and going and going and not stopping.
Well, I don't have pump attendants in NJ. I wouldn't be caught dead living in that state. But by law you are not allowed to pump your own gas in the state of New Jersey. It's kind of dumb.
absolutely and it along with the optional winch you could order it with a 50 cal gun mount on the back, hence the seats and grab bars with one of four different camo paint jobs from the factory. I was so in love with this as a kid
It was actually made because the majority of Lambo's customers in the late 80's were sheiks from the middle east. It was to satisfy their needs in the dessert.
I always caught a lot of flak from friends because I think this truck is absolutely gorgeous. It looks so mean and graceful at the same time. I LOVE it!!
Commentor1 That's the actual dealership. Look up Interstate Motorsports on Google and you'll see more pictures. It's just a Ferarri hood in the wall, not a whole Ferarri.
thats the worst conspiracy theory ive ever heard. gmc never even manufactured cars they only make trucks thus would have no business interfering with John Delorean.
Dont you dare to badmouth the Delorean, its an amazing car, no matter how much of a crackhead was the creator. Suuure it might be slow, but the beauty is what matters ,and in daily driving you aint gonna be going 200mph anyway
The reason a lot of the controls are oddly placed, gas tank is huge, back end seating and other weird stuff is because this was originally intended to be supplied to the military. The power accessories, speakers and stuff were all added later when the military bought something else and they decided to rework it as an SUV.
I got to ride in the back seat of this one of these vehicles at my family's ranch the LM002 had it's original tires! The owner was of the mindset of use it or lose it. He floored it in the dirt in 4wd it hooked up and pinned me in my seat. I've been in faster vehicles, but none that jumped a foot off the ground and landed so soft and composed! It's an extremely rare vehicle and it's an extremely rare memory for me! Seeing Doug experience this amazing vehicle that was original thought of as a vehicle to possibly compete with the hummer for the U.S. military contract. At least that's my recollection of it's inception. Thanks Doug for reminding me of a time long past! Todd
@@cbotten106 i got a ride in my friend's convertible vw dune buggy, it had turn brakes. It was so much fun it was fun on a budget that anyone could afford. I remember the Rambo Lambo, but to own i would take the vw dunebuggy which was cheap to own and could be daily driven!
You are reviewing this like it was designed by Lamborghini for the Rich public... Ahhhhh.. IT WAS A MILITARY CONCEPT VEHICLE adapted for the road because the military didn't want it.. Look up Cheetah and XR311 for where this came from. And look into the Humvee to see what the design became
Was about to say the same thing. If you look at the history of it it was pre humvee, designed for the military but not for the US. It was for the Middle East. If you look at the crazy things from a point of view of upgrading a military vehicle to a luxury vehicle you can see how they just slapped it together. For instance the fuel cap being high is for a fuel can on the shoulder and with no cover.
XD Too fitting for all of these quirks. lemme run them down mid: Interior design? Like WTF is this? Storage BELOW a seat? Hey Al, put my Tommy gun in there. 76.6 gallon fuel tank? XD lets burn her down A HEAVY GAS PEDAL??? Get out of here An off-road Lamborghini? I need to get out of here!
This car hasn't been made for civilian use. It was a command from the Saudi Arabia's government for it's borders custom who were outrun by the alcohol smugglers with their american suv. It was adapted to the civilian market only years later.
Hicham Solhi That's not the story which is told pretty much everywhere. The LM was originally supposed to be used by the US military. And when Lamborghini didn't win the contract they decided to build this
Hicham Solhi nope, regularly sold in Italy, my uncle had one of these (27 years ago!) and drove it from Rome to Cortina d'Ampezzo each winter holidays (and spent a fortune on gas!). And it wasn’t the only one up there in Cortina!!!
I remember when I was in my 20s and worked in Beverly Hills. There was a exotic car dealership I would walk by every day. There was one of these in white just like this one in the window.
This could be used as a prank like a guy goes up to a hot girl and is like "Hey, I think you're really pretty, wanna ride in my Lamborghini?" They proceed to the parking lot & realize it's an LM002
Bob McCoy--So what exactly would be the prank?? That's like saying " Hey I'm going to pick you up in my Honda" and then pulling up in......a Honda?? People's kids these days....SMFH
I think you're example would be more like the girl is expecting a "Honda Civic", but instead is picked up in a "Honda Oddesey/Minivan, whatever". The point is that most people expect the most common car from the brand like Honda Civic and Lamborghini Diablo/Huracan or whatever similar looking model.
Here's why it's worth 400'000$

"Its all really tight in here"

I've been thinking that this entire video, but couldn't put into words any better😂😂😂😂
that interior looks like its from a high end boat with all the nice leather and wood.

"Here's Why the Lamborghini LM002 Is Worth $400,000" - 15 minutes of terrible button placement, bizarre design choices, horrible ergonomics, absurdly bad fuel efficiency, and screamingly loud road noise.
I take it you mean about screamingly loud road noise the annoying guy speaking about this beautiful car?
Haha *brofist*
I know. He said the Hummer H2 was a joke yet is praising this which is 100x more ridiculous. Why?
Powerrrrrrr! That is the only answer.
Cause actually the H2 is much nicer...
beautiful car? ha ha
Short story: The LM001 Cheetah was developed by Lamborghini to be the replacement for the aging Jeep in the US military. Unfortunately they lost to the AM General Humvee. Instead of scrapping the car, Lamborghini made it into a luxury SUV called LM002. That's why there are seats in the rear and all the capabilities you see there :)
Had Lamborghini scored the contract, they'd never have gone bankrupt. Unfortunately, LM001 took Lamborghini to bankruptcy and they also consequently withdrew from the BMW M1 project
Krishna Manda he should've know the whole story before hand
Krishna Manda HUMVEE (HMMVE) not Hummer
Krishna Manda They went bankrupt in 78. They sold to Chrysler first in 87, then Chrysler sold it in 94. Audi didn't buy it until 98.
IndianaPwn3s correct!!
Most pumps will stop around $125 so the price wouldn't go very high.
Justin Jones thatsmwhen you go to a different pump
Joshua Godsey smart ass lol
You have pump attendants in New Joisy? What the hell, chief?
Well, I don't have pump attendants in NJ. I wouldn't be caught dead living in that state. But by law you are not allowed to pump your own gas in the state of New Jersey. It's kind of dumb.
That hood slam sound has to be the single coolest hood sound there is in the automotive industry.
I think it was designed as a military vehicle and when it was not accepted into service they turned it into a luxury SUV.
Let me guess you are Italian
是的 沙特阿拉伯当时定制了30台
Yeah and its one of the most insane military vehicles ever created
exactly. although every reviewer thought lambo was crazy for making it
it was supposed to be an offroad for the Army, that's why the accelerator is hard: you had to drive it in military boots.
absolutely and it along with the optional winch you could order it with a 50 cal gun mount on the back, hence the seats and grab bars with one of four different camo paint jobs from the factory. I was so in love with this as a kid
It was actually made because the majority of Lambo's customers in the late 80's were sheiks from the middle east. It was to satisfy their needs in the dessert.
1:58 "now when you close the hood" BAANG sounded like you broke something lmaoo
I always caught a lot of flak from friends because I think this truck is absolutely gorgeous. It looks so mean and graceful at the same time. I LOVE it!!
These hinges at 7:12 certainly look exactly like you'd expect in a 400.000$ car :-D
It's an 80s lamborghini, what do you expect lol
That garage looked like a collection of die-cast cars, not real ones.
Commentor1 That's the actual dealership. Look up Interstate Motorsports on Google and you'll see more pictures. It's just a Ferarri hood in the wall, not a whole Ferarri.
Commentor1 It does look a little weird though, the cars are all too shiny and perfect lol
A n d r e w no, just no
Thank you
A n d r e w looking at their inventory, they don't even have a quarter of the cars in those pics, it's pretty much just click bait
Those guys at lamborghini must have been doing more coke than John Delorean to come up with something like that.
James Fish john didn't do coke. It was a rouse set up by GMC to take down the compitition.
thats the worst conspiracy theory ive ever heard. gmc never even manufactured cars they only make trucks thus would have no business interfering with John Delorean.
Dont you dare to badmouth the Delorean, its an amazing car, no matter how much of a crackhead was the creator. Suuure it might be slow, but the beauty is what matters ,and in daily driving you aint gonna be going 200mph anyway
He said it doesn’t rattle or shake, it surprisingly feels well put together. Ya…it’s a $400k car. You’d think they’d make it right.
It's basically a land Yacht
Marcus J No, it's a fucking barrier on wheels with a fast V12.
Marcus J A SUPER land yacht!
it's like a Hummer knocked up an Escalade Truck
Umm yeah marcus u r right
Marcus J you are a nugget
With a Diablo engine...
The seats are really nice.
This was the perfect car for pablo escobar
Pablo Escobar chose wisely. He went with Land Cruisers.

MrTommys2001 just a lamborghini off roader nothing to see here que pasa?
Doug's older videos have much more interesting driving shots. Wish he'd bring them back!
You guys are crazy, I'd drive this car!...
To the nearest Lamborghini dealership and trade it for an Aventador.
Beau Binning And then wreck it as you try to drive over the curb
You aren't wrong.
Beau Binning Alrighty then
Beau Binning or a veneno
Bradley Porter this is 400k and venonos from 1.8 - 8 million dollars so you would need a few of these
76.6 gallons = 290 litres
Holy shit
What with the average price of petrol today being £1.2 in England, that'd be £348 pounds to fill up the tank.
My car does 3381 miles with that...
Oh damn
Simon Millberg That is a fucking bath tub of a fuel tank
this gu is safe from zombie apocalypses..
The reason a lot of the controls are oddly placed, gas tank is huge, back end seating and other weird stuff is because this was originally intended to be supplied to the military. The power accessories, speakers and stuff were all added later when the military bought something else and they decided to rework it as an SUV.
0:42 Is that the Ferrari F40 Spider hanging in the wall?
well, it's a spider. what did you expect :D
it must be fake thats like the most expensive car there
@@ivanpekic3544 probably just a chassis made from a light material. somehow I doubt you could hang a complete car on the wall like this :)

0:42 is that a hanging F40 on the wall?
wtf
The noise that the hood makes when Doug closes it at 1:57 is hilarious. It sounds like someone hitting a metal drum. Haha.
It sounded like someone dropped a pan into the floor.
Todd
Sounds like you had an awesome childhood. My cousins drove me around grandpas farm in a VW based dune buggy. You win!
At least those 70+ gallons of gas will get you a long distance. Say 140, maybe even 210 miles!
Michael Willman today's cars with a 15 gallon tank could go about 300 miles

You are reviewing this like it was designed by Lamborghini for the Rich public... Ahhhhh.. IT WAS A MILITARY CONCEPT VEHICLE adapted for the road because the military didn't want it.. Look up Cheetah and XR311 for where this came from. And look into the Humvee to see what the design became
Camo B really?lambos? For the us army? Ya mean instead of Humvees they could have had these sick bastards?
@@imjustarandomdoggy6460 yep! Imagine Humvees with lamborghini v12 engines!
1:56 That is the most satisfying hood shutting sound
A hummer took anabolic steroids and had a baby with a 1994 Baja ski boat

This car hasn't been made for civilian use.
It was a command from the Saudi Arabia's government for it's borders custom who were outrun by the alcohol smugglers with their american suv.
It was adapted to the civilian market only years later.
You should know better than me !
Hicham Solhi That's not the story which is told pretty much everywhere.
The LM was originally supposed to be used by the US military. And when Lamborghini didn't win the contract they decided to build this
King First That's a point of view
Hicham Solhi Tina Turner has one and she drives it regularly.
Hicham Solhi nope, regularly sold in Italy, my uncle had one of these (27 years ago!) and drove it from Rome to Cortina d'Ampezzo each winter holidays (and spent a fortune on gas!). And it wasn’t the only one up there in Cortina!!!

KMike68Camaro you don't get it no girl would expect that too be a Lamborghini they would think it is just a bulky piece of sit csr
