Interesting find. I thought I would leave the cover off since I could not see what good it did. Plus it hid the flasher. Without the cover I could not hear the flasher. The cover amplifies the sound.

Is the flasher relay located in the same area on a 07 explorer

There was a design change between 2005 and 2007. So I am not sure.

That is a good one. The only other thing that I can think of is the brake light switch. Maybe the third brake light is on a different circuit from the tail lights? I don't know, but there are 5 pins on the brake light switch , so maybe. It looks like the part is less than $20 online, so it might be worth giving that a try, but again, I really don't know.

How did you get the cover loosened?

I used a small screwdrifer to slide under the tab on the top. It was impossible for me to get my hand up there to hold the tab to loosen the top part.

Mine was tapped shut and I just pulled very hard to break the tape. It had electical tape across the cover. I had to pull the cover under the steering wheel to have enough room. It has clips top and bottom. I really can’t figure what the cover does.

I cant to mine. They put it in such a hard place. Its crazy.

Are you having trouble getting the cover off? There was black tape, from the factory, wrapped around mine. If you cut the black tape, it will make it easier to get the cover off. Hope this helps.

@@TheFixitShed I unhooked and did everything on point.but it still womt drop down. For me to.get access and change it. Now my flashers dont come on at all.

It is just the clip a the top, the clip on the bottom, and the tape that hold it together. Top clip is really hard to get to. I think I used a small screwdriver (or some small flat piece of metal) to hold the top clip up, while I slid the cover off.

@@TheFixitShed I did all three clips. Unhooked everything. It wont drop because there is a solid piece of black plastic attached to the fuse box.
