Awsome Video, I'm a retired Marina owner and Certified Master Technician for Mercury and MerCruiser. I have been to Fond du Lac several times during the years I owned for schooling but never had the chance to see the manufacturing process . I still think Mercury is the Best outboard ever made . P.S. I'm 80 years old and still have a small repair shop and still repairing Mercury's and MerCruiser's.
First outboard for me as a young kid in Florida, was a 1976 9.8 Mercury! I was approx 10 years old!! Had a 12 foot aluminum v hull!! Engine logged thousands of hours!! As kids we ran it WOT 98% of the time! Had a launch behind the house, we used the engine to literally blow a channel up into the boat launch contraption! Lol! Had to continually do this! Sand, rocks, shells you could actually see the engine shuddering as debris was spewed out!! We sank this engine numerous times as well as a result of being young and careless!! Dad would have it running again within an hour with some fresh water and wd40!! We logged more hours than the OMC test boats on the St.lucie river!!! This engine was donated (running) to a local school!! Had great experience with 115 mercury and also late 80 200 black max!! All screamers would smoke any modern engine in class hands down!!!
This was very interesting. Back in the '70s I got a hold of my father-in-law's 23' I/O that he allowed a cold winter in Tacoma freeze up and shatter the iron block of the Chevy 4 cylinder, Mercury used back then. He had it completely rebuilt the previous summer, so I bought what was called a "fitted block" out of Mexico. The stern-drive was so early you had to pull it up manually. A friend of mine asked why I was so picky with restoring everything legit. I told him a boat is one-down from a plane in the need to function. He didn't with his boat and got stranded, but he learned a lesson. This video shows Mercury feels as I do, even though my old boat is now long gone. KL
I am a outboard enthusiast.i would have to say the tower of power IS the best outboard ever!!! When its running it sounds alive.any outboard finatic knows what im trying yo say 😉
i have a 90 Horse Mercury to this day she runs guns blazing only had to replace the bottom half of the motor broke in the motor to this day not 1 issue i had. They dont make them like they used.
Looking foward to my New 2022 75 ELPT for my old 89 Mirrocraft, expected delivery spring 2022. My 89 50hp mercury finally died and decided to go brand new.

Engine availability and lead time will vary by location, so you'll need to contact a local Mercury Marine dealer to discuss specifics. You can find a list of our dealers by visiting www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/find-a-dealer/.

Why is my 2006 Mercury 60hp 4 stroke made in CHINA????!!!!! Did not know this until after I bought it. I guess the dealer forgot to mention this. I wish I had bought a Honda.
Dont get me wrong, mercs are great motors, I own a 1973 Merc 85hp (850) runs like a champ, but now anything under 75hp is made overseas, so I would get another brand if you are looking for a motor under 75hp. BUt anything above, is great!
Mercury built and owns the plant in China that produces the 40-50-60 EFI fourstrokes. Still built to Mercurys exacting standards are are one of the most reliable outboards in that HP class bar none!
Can anyone see a plant Tour? How about 10 time Dealer Congress Members? Number one North American Dealers multi-year? Dad would love to do it I bet....Let me know.
Would you be interested interested in sponsoring a kids soccer team here in a small town on the coast of Western Australia 🇦🇺 the bigger town next to us has marinas all over the place we're right on the coast next to a main inlet I'm sure you'll get great exposure in the local and state areas prob out there idea of mine but it doesn't hurt too ask
I own a 1986 merc 60 horse two stroke out board is this considered a good engine my mechanic says it will last last and last is this true all the tests show that this engine has hardly been used I hope it wasn't made in communist china !!
This is all good BUT: obviously you have planned badly or someone has mismanaged the 2019 production of the V8 250 Pro XS!! I’m told by multiple dealers, who are very upset with Merc too, and several that sell 600+ motors per year, that I will have to wait for up to a YEAR to re-motor my Champion 201. Frankly, this is BS. I feel bad for small business dealers who are losing $ as we consumers simply go to a Yamaha or other. Don’t want to but might. Obviously you choose to supply Johnny Morris and Ranger/Tracker and other manufacturers but not us. What gives and why the BS answers??
John Bell with how many big time boat manufacturers Brunswick owns they obviously have to supply their new boats first. New boat manufacturers always get first pick no matter what. The same thing happened when the Optimax and L6 Verado were released. Once the old Optimax line is converted to manufacture the new V8 and V6 the wait time will be heavily cut. The wait time on one now is about 18 months even though they’re producing over 100 of each every week. Demand is just that high for those motors

This where the most unreliable and poorly warrantied outboard motors in the world come from. YAY! Mercury your 1.2 star consumer reports rating is well deserved!
1999 150hp Optimax.... Lots of warnings for overheating, weak water pumps, replaced multiple fuel injectors, air injectors, water pumps, fuel pump, throttle position sensor, fuel cooler, etc.... Mercury was difficult to deal with with my original motor on my boat, nobody wanted to fix it, I was told that all the parts tested good (it had an intermittant dead cylinder) and if the shop replaced a part under warranty, they had to send it back to Mercury, and if it tested good, they would send it back and not honor the warranty. First two years of my new boat was a nightmare! I ended up replacing the 125 Merc with the 150 optimax, only lasted one season before the repairs started. 10 years of repairs every year, now I don't use my boat nearly as much so, not as many repairs.
2005 175 optimax destroyed itself at 360hr broken piston believed to be the cause and my 150 2010 just dropped the top off a piston at 300 hrs..you might say im a little disappointed in mercs since 2000...
Just bought a new Ranger RT178, with a Mercury 60 four stroke. And to be honest the last Mercury I will ever buy. Your Idiot Break in requirement You Idiots you should break in your motors at the factory! 🇱🇷
Agreed. Four decades of experience with a marina (in WI no less!) and I'd advise you strongly to buy a Honda or Yamaha. Avoid Mercury for outboards. Mercruiser sterndrives are OK, not great, but OK.

We have a 250 ProXS 2-Stroke on our Triton. I just wish we had the new V8 because that thing sounds mean!
I dont know how any one could build a better out board engine with the resources they have.
And yet the Japanese do it with Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki.

but how many of the motors are actually made in fondy, i know mine wasnt but its still been great to me
About 80 percent by value of Mercury outboards come from China. Most Mercruiser stern drives come from Fond du Lac.
@@mikepodella all motors from 75 hp up are made in USA.
