In transformers age of extinction when Grimlock and the other Dinobots and crosshairs are on the bridge when Grimlock transform’s and crosshairs says we’r gonna hold the line and block the bridge Grimlock is seen roaring but there is no sound
Since it was a battle field the terrain wouldn’t have been smooth to drive . So robot mode was much better to run over or jump over any obstacle in my opinion
It also makes sense why he also had shot guns made for him in the 3rd movie. He lost his canons in the bombing and they were damaged beyond repair. It makes sense why he didn’t get out of the base like the other Autobots. He couldn’t protect himself from a decepticon attack unless he had help that’s why sideswipe stayed with him to finish off the dread bots and why he warned ironhide of any attacks he couldn’t see. Part of the reason that he got shot by sentinel. He couldn’t defend himself at all because his guns were on his back which was shot first. Ironhide was used as bait for any other autobot to come try and help him only to get blasted too. That’s why bumblebee had to leave him behind because he knew he’d be killed too if he got close to him. You what I liked about revenge of the fallen? None of the movie 1 autobots died. You know technically if Epps didn’t throw the smoke grenade badly operation firestorm would’ve resulted in the decepticons blown to peices and Ironhide would still have his canons and when the time came possibly shot sentinel the minute he tried to kill him.
Then you must go play the video game it's called, Transformers: Dark of the Moon with PS3 and Xbox 360. You will see Ironhide had used the right cannon arms in game and movie (TF3) . Ironhide's normal weapons are not strong enough to pierce Mixmaster's shields, since he did drop the left cannon arm - so he uses his the new "Heavy Iron" rifle to cause a large metal platform to land on Mixmaster trapping him underground. Heavy Iron 2.0" from Wheeljack-a new rifle that can destroy Mixmaster's shields. Mixmaster is powerless against Ironhide's new weapon, defeated, and is killed by a fatal headshot from Ironhide.
I honestly thought the theory was about how ironhide was trying to stay behind N. E. S. T. And Sam to make sure they reach Optimus safely b4 any decepticons pop up and shoot at them and goes towards where ratchet was to get some repairs so he had to leave them
And I noticed that it comes out of smoke with the vehicle opening as if it had been damaged, then when it switches to running it is intact or is it an error or does it open these parts anyway
i just noticed in dotm when sam reunites with bumblebee at nest base he pats ironhide on the hood and rubs ratchet's hood with the weird paper stick he had in his pants as a callback when the first met and ratchet smelled pheromones. These small details are genuinely overshadowed and do show some care went into these movies.

The terrain wouldn't be favorable for that situation, so it would be better to drop some equipment to become lighter, increasing agility and endurance.
Unfortunately, the terrain isn't favorable to drive. He also seems to have taken quite a few heavy blows (which you can see with his chest armor being damaged and sparks flying. ) So the best option is to become lighter by removing equipment and increasing your speed and agility

At one point in the desert we see a uav camera turn left and tilt down, looks identical to that in the 07 movie with scorponok
The other reason is because those canons cost a lot of money for the visual effects department. So they had to remove them to save money.
